Topgunners
I went out on Saturday morning and had a good drive round a lot of my permissions and could not find pigeons anywhere. I had been looking for a couple of hours and finally found a few pigeons and rooks on some stubbles. The wind was blowing quite hard and I set up 2 sets of deeks. 24 Pigeon deeks straight out in front of me and 18 half-shell and full-bodied crow decoys out to the left of the hide. It was now 2.00pm and AL and his mate rang me to say that they had not had any luck at all. I told him to drive over to me and they could set up 3 fields away where I had spotted a few flitting about. 20 minutes later they arrived and I directed them to the field. I had shot 5 by then and cotinued to get a fairly steady trickle in to my deeks. I was joined by them about an hour and a half later saying that the birds just did not come back and they had shot 8 and were off home. I stayed till about 18.30 and had shot 18 blackies and 14 pigeons (picked 12). Hard earnt; in some strong winds. We were off on Sunday for a Deer/Fox stalk at 04.30am. Cranfield
It just goes to show that not every day out is not a 100+ day, there are lots of times we are scratching around for a few birds.
