tony the tiger
I was out lamping on one of my permissions when it started to rain, not wanting to go home i decided to try putting some RED filter tape on my headlights, what a great job it did, i flicked the mainbeam on and the bunnies where lit up perfectly.. with the amount of light going through the filters i lit up a much bigger field of vision and made looking through the scope at all those bunnies a really pleasure , i got 9 bunnies in about 15 mins on just one of the fields... has anyone done this method before... Dave-G
Not tried a red filter but in it's absence normal headlights will do the job unless you have super bright hid's etc that hurt to look at. Rabbits don't generally consider a vehicle as a predator unless they have reason to - like if they have been shot at from one in the past. Here's a short clip with Fleabag and I doing it with halogen headlights and spotlights. The camcorder didn't have good low light capability so the clip comes out darker than it actually was, the sound is also slightly out of phase. Anyone who is taking up fleabags offer this weekend will get a go at it. :( Lamping with the headlights Edited September 2, 2009 by Dave-G
tony the tiger
I got the red from my local d/glazing co, they use it for colouring the glass so they had loads in variou shades of red and it was only £1 for a 18"x18" sheet, it has a light adhesive on the back so it just sticks on, pulls straight off and is re-usable... Alpha Mule
Dave-G and Fleabag: Jeez you guys are prolific! Hats off! You also have a crazy number of rabbits on that property. I've been for an interview for a new job today, fingers crossed I get it because I can't wait to get my FAC and a powder burner - the air rifle isn't fairing so well with the long hedgerows. The rain is so bad here is South Wales that we can't even take the Landie out as it'll tear up the fields. bigbird2
Hey Tony.. we use a hi lux for lamping on the golf course with 2 100w halos and we have put red ohp film over the lenses.. awsome results .. the bunnies dont even bother with the fact their being hunted.. the 2 main head lights are done aswell but in a fashion that the grill and film can be removed in less than 10 secs so we can drive on the road without plod bothering us...good luck well worth doing..
