simple answer is chest shoot them,, keep still ,, but best advice is to do it once it goes dark with a red torch,,totally awesome fun

but the most important thing is make sure there is a decent backstop as the farmer wont be too happy if you put holes in the barn roof

good luck

Thanks can anyone recommend a light setup that wont be too expensive. I was just going to buy a fig 8 screw mount off ebay and stick my cree T6 on it if I can find compatible tail switch as it takes 3 clicks to get to full beam its only got a white pill in though. Scope mounted light best?

Re legality. There seems to be plenty of youtube vids of guys beaming lights on perched ferals and shooting not saying that makes it legal right enough.

The red plastic filter works. But it can absorb up to 75% of the light so not really a goer. You'd need a 400 lumen torch to replicate a 100 lumen red LED. The cheap red Cree torches on eBay or DX are 90 lumens and plenty powerful enough for barn shooting, or bunnies at air gun ranges.

You can shoot ferals using lamps, but not woodies or any game birds.

I used to use Norika Killers in .177 for this sort of thing. They kill pigeons and rats stone dead, but don't penetrate the thin metal structure of barns or chemical cans for that matter. Getting hard to find them now though. Best use a soft round lead pellet like an AA Field or JSB Exact and chest shoot them to reduce the chances of a stray pellet causing damage.
