For those of you that will be suffering from lack of shooting practice at the pigeions over christmas!!!! Stow come Quy (Mill) near Cambridge, just off the A14 has a Boxing day clay shoot.....Oh yes. £17 for 50 shots i believe.....just ring up Quy mill and book a slot. Bring your own shot as normal. I know thats not cheap, but it is Boxing day after all. The chap that runs it also has a clay shoot every other week at Eversden near Barton on the other side of Cambridge. This is only £10 on a sunday morning,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I'll let you all know when the next one is..and the competition will be on! gadgit.

:angry: How close you can get is the most inportant to me with a bad ish back. when I go without my farmer in the Mondeo!....I have to walk for ever, and do two trips to get all the stuff there. When he comes, we put all the stuff in the freelander, and drive over the fields on the tracks to where we are going to shoot. The mondeo might just have to be traded in!!

Same in Cambridge on Thursday? 1600-1800...............bloke shot 90 in the same place last Sat. Almost all had completly gone.........never thought the wind change could make such a dramatic change? And of course, it has gone very cold throughtout the day in the shade. Perhaps they didn't like the conditions. Hoping they will be back next week :hmm: At one point we found a huge flock in a field. we nipped in, they all flew away............................and yes, they never came back?

I'd say there is no such thing as a gun just for a new shooter. If you are going to do clays and game, including pigeons get a sporting gun. This will do everything you want to do. If you have loads of dosh, buy a really good make, but make sure it fits you properly. A good gun shop will show you how it should fit. Don't think you will start hitting things at first, but if you do, you might just have the right gun, and it just might be the cheaper one! You could go down the path of buying a cheap gun for a start, for a few hundred, but you will always feel you could have done better. You should get loads of advice now your thread is up and running. Just don't rush out and buy the first one you like the look of, although thats what most people do?? Good luck!!

My first trip out with all me new gear resulted in 7 birds.....25 shots. Still plenty of birds round here......Cambridge area. Things dried up at one point? then a small child said hello mister!!! dressed in bright yellow.. and that was the end of that. And this is in the middle of a field in the bushes. Kid came from nowhere..housing about half a mile away. (no school then) Then the farmer came over to have a look, dressed in bright orange suit? (my mate)... The Hyperflaps worked great....still bringing in the birds till they saw us in the field., but they still came quite close. Farmer boy and me will be at it in the morning....to beat my new record of 7.....great fun......and cheaper than clays by a mile. Funny thing is i'm still having problems with the clays but i'm getting the pigeons?? I'm off again tomorrow, same place. not much to beat, I know, but its a good start.

After attending numerous shoots this year. when waiting for the birds to fly out from the bushes and trees, in a line........not one shooter had his gun open. Most of them had safety fitted and their fingers on them to turn it off as they lift the guns. Some had allready turned them off, cos they new what they were doing. Two chaps had their young sons on a shoot for the first time.....and they had there lads useing the safety...no problems for them at all. As I said previously...It not you, you should worry about....its other idiots that are the trouble.....you must surely see that for someone out in the fields for the first time, being taught what to do, it must at least be safer to have that person with a safety!!! FOR YOU...NOT HIM! And I've just had a bad day in the fields....nothing.........and got stuck in the mud to boot!!!!

Info for all silly might be's?? Don't glue the rods in! You get two sets of rods...light winds and strong winds.........if you glue them in howare you supposed to change them over. Perhaps.....the early models did not have a choice of rods?? latest instructions say nothing about glueing anything?

Having taken my son out to start shooting, I felt safer with him having the safety on the gun. Yes, I made sure he understood the basics of safe handling of a gun. repeatedly, he opened the gun and was careful under my instructions to apply what I had told him. After swapping back and forth I did feel that he had got this safety idea licked. But after loading the gun he lost concentration just for a second, and turned towards me with the gun and said pull! &*$%$£" My language was not very pleasent towards him..........but I had taught him to only turn off the safety as he raised the gun towards the clays. He had indeed got this bit right! But I was pleased the gun had the safety fitted and working, at that time. Justout of interest, the Beretta 686S Sporter comes with the auto safety off, The previous owner must of had a moment with it as the safety auto was on and the dealer said perhaps something happened to convince him he needed it. This is my last point on this matter..........its down to the individual to know if he's one of those people who might just do something he regrets. Only You know if you are one of these, As i'm new to shooting, i'm not risking ME making a mistake, so 'its on' and I'm insured to boot for £10million!!!! As someone once said, don't think everyone is as carefull as you are. Thats just being silly. I work with people who are highly trained, for years............but they make mistakes, thats why I do the job I do. Happy shooting!!!!!!!!!!! :lol: :lol:

I've just go me new Shootwarehouse Rotary device and a pair of Sillosocks. Now if you don't know this its good news. The rotary decoy is £65....but you get 5% off for PW member. But if you buy a pair of Sillosocks, its pushes the price over £100 and then you get 10% discount, getting complicated? But the other good news is they only charged £8 for postage, which is cheaper than most. you do need a speed control, (ebay..£15) and all arrived this morning! Contrary to local news they are easy to assemble than I thought. Two sets of Carbon rods are supplied.....normal, and thicker for strong winds. The rods just push through the corrigated gap and go under the wings, through a slot and then into a pocket at each end to hold in place. you have to bend the wings slightly to get both ends in the pockets.........they will not come out..........no need to Glue anything. My first thought were that they look like a bit of card with to bits of paper attached to them..........BUT!!! they do work very well To test the Battery life, I've had them going al day from 11am through to 1800.......with an hour break for lunch for me and the Sillo's due to rain. No problem with the battery.......and once you bend the leading edge and trailing edge on the wings up they do flap and look very real. Remember though, you do need a speed control with the Sillo's to control the flapping movement to be just right. Until I've used them in anger I won't know if they will work for real, but at this stage I'm happy. :blink:

I see from your forum input that you appear to be a newbie. i don't wish to be rude, but if you have, just started...........you perhaps should leave this in place, and get used to it for a bit at least. You may have been shooting for years..and therefore forget this.

Now it could be me? But I can't find Andy Moss on Ebay? Can someone give me a link for him and the price of the Magnet. I need to compare with the one below. I'm looking at the 'Pigeon Decoy' one which is £65 +pp.........anyone got one of these? seems a good deal? :hmm:

:blink: They will be on the rape now, and be leaving the beans. They will feed on the rape til they can't reach it anymore and then go for the later drilled beans. This is what the farmer told me? So make the most of the rape while you can.

:blink: I would say that is about where I am now with thw aim ( I mean point, just so I don't upset the purists) It works for me.

I've found the bead a confusion when first shooting. Some say you should see about half an inch of it when setting up, and some say about the thickness of a pound coin? The only way I really found out was to shoot at some test 30 inch targets to get the point of aim. I then found about 70% shot above centre. I then went to the clays and missed loads..............Not telling the scores!!!! it was that bad. I've since been out in the fields and just shot at clods of earth and found I was shooting over them? I've now found that I need to be low on the bead and aim straight at the target and am hitting things far better. I think the double sight ball, with one half way down forming an 8 is a better guide for a beginner??? You can't go wrong with that...........................or can you?

how old is it? what chokes come with it? what condition is it in? Do you get a sleeve as well? 28 inch is fine for all shooting except for extremes, but you have just started, so this is just right. Great gun the 686.....................I've got one!

provided the spills are still at the end of the rows they will still look for them on the fields.

Pigeons are on the bean fields at the moment! Go find your farmer and find out where he das drilled them, watch the flight paths for a few days and you should find them?

Hi Stu, You will find this quite common in all british industry as well? :blink: If we were GERMAN! this would have all been sorted out with great efficiently, but true to being british someone either has never done Anything wrong, or blames it on someone else.............but you will never find out what happened. Oh, and if you would like to borrow some of my blood pressure tablets you can??? :wub: :o

I bought the Rottweil 28 /7 plastic......£133 per 1000..........they are all gone? Now all the rotts are far more exspensive. :blink: :mad:

Having checkes your scores Stuart.................................................you have no need to change your gun at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great shooting mate.........and it would appear you may be changing for the sake of it?
