  1. I was not having a go at spaniel, he dealt with the situation as he saw fit, he seems a very level headed person, all I offered was an alternative as to what you can do if the RSPCA turn up on your doorstep.
  2. My condolences to his family.
  3. Well said,he should have been recalled on licence long ago.
  4. I am sure it could hear my heart beating, stunning animals. You are so right Frenchieboy. :o
  5. That made you look Was out with the dog and the camera, and got close to mum,she seemed to feel safe because of a small stream separating us. I snapped a couple of shots, and then the little one stood up,i hadn't seen it,not less than 10 feet from mum, snapped a couple more and left them in peace.
  6. I think you should go and read my post again,i said i would politely ask them to leave, and escort them off my property,i was not being as you put it officious and obstructive, just saying what i would do in the circumstances,as for the police turning up,yes i do know my rights, and if they do not follow the law then they will also be asked to leave, and i have in the past done just that. my last few lines state that they do step in when they see cruelty, for your information my office worked very closely with the rspca on one of their highest profile cases of cruelty, and even offered to step in if they were unable to prevent the cruelty the animals were likely to go back to. As for the internet warrior statement, grow up,i am content with my life, have served my country in conflict, and have faced that "real situation"you would have to ask my comrades if i acted correctly,i think i know the answer. This is just a forum, for people to put points of views across, you don't need to abuse people to put a point across, and i am happy to have dialogue, but abusing me,is pointless.
  7. Personally i would have politely told the rspca to go away,if he refused to leave my property then i would escort him off. The rspca have no legal powers whatsoever, they like to dress up in uniforms and call themselves inspectors so the public will think they have powers. They can only take action against people by taking out civil prosecutions, the same as you or i can. I admit in some instances they do a good job,and will step in when they see cruelty, but most of the time they are just annoying busybodies.
  8. Have just watched this weeks show.
  9. That's a nice nights work, well done.
  10. It looks like a lovely part of the countryside where you are,its like us in Pembrokeshire,if you don't like the weather, wait for 10 minutes and it will change.
  11. Spot on mate, it came with the rifle when I bought it ,and it does the job nicely.
  12. Nice afternoons shooting,well done.
  13. Well a few hours kip after last night, and i got up and gave the rife a second clean, then about 3 the wife said to me "why don't you take the dog out and go shooting for a couple of hours,it hasn't rained" bless her. So me and jake set off for my closest permission, but when i get there i see the farmer in the yard, and stop for a chat, turns out there are still workers replacing pylons in two of his fields,so i just went for a quick walk round the "lower"field, sat in a corner, and watched two young foxes play fighting about 100 yds away, wish i had the big camera but had left it at home, this farmer doesn't mind foxes,so i am happy to let them be,some times its nice to just sit and watch. Drove down to Ted's farm where he has been having his chickens taken, had a chat with him and his wife, and was told chickens were still being taken,so i walked all their fields, and sat in a corner where they had seen foxy, and saw nothing. On the way back to the farm yard,i am in the middle of a field and i look down the slope and there is a fox on the fence line with a field of barley behind it,i sit down and get the dog behind me,and call, and call and call, fox ignores me, every time i peak over the rise he is still there,so i try to slowly move into a position where i can see him,but just as i get there he steps through the fence and disappears into the barley,so we are sitting there in the middle of a field with a wet ****. Then i see some thing in the far corner of the second field,a look through the scope and there is a beautiful fox deep rich coat,in pristine condition,i give a squeak and it looks up but ignores me,it is way to far for a shot, this is Dave's 223 territory, but as i am squeaking a fox pops out of the barley beside it and starts trotting toward me,i keep squeaking with my hand and it comes toward a hole in the fence separating the two fields,it pops through and comes 10yds into the field, then looks at me and jake,i take a shot that spot where neck meets chest, and it slumps to the floor, check the distance, about 85yds,it is a young female,so the other was mummy,i will have to search her out. I took the fox to show Ted who was happy, and told his wife shirley to "get the kettle on and we will have a bit of cake",which we did Shirley gave me a dozen eggs as i was leaving as well,so a good couple of hours out. It just shows that foxy doesn't just come out in the middle of the night, the last couple of foxes have been morning afternoon and night. I won't be boring you with any thing for a while as am having a date with a few bottles tonight Thanks for reading my ramblings.
  14. Looks like a nice pup,i bet you can't wait to get him home, then he can start to train you
  15. It is indeed a cz452 17hmr, the barrel is unchopped,i like the way it feels and shoots,it drives Dave my shooting partner mad because all my rifles are unchopped, all his are chopped to the max,and shoot great, but i'm a 6 footer and it feels right with a bigger rifle.
  16. I have a few days off so i decided to go out for an evenings shoot, had it all planned out, first onto one of the golf courses, and do a bit of thinning out,and then to the chicken farm and see if i could get a few foxes. Well the weather has been miserable,so i checked the met office, the bbc and met check, they all told me from 21:00 until 04:00 clear skies slight breeze, great. So get all my kit together and at 22:00 off i set. Get to the golf course and its very humid but nice and clear, attach the lamp boots on and away i go,now this golf course is a clear everything, rabbits and foxes, and i get to keep it by doing just that,i step onto the fairway and kneel down,no matter how many times i come on here, there is always a few rabbits in this spot, sure enough i pop on the lamp a at least 6 rabbits run for the woods, but a couple freeze,i choose one and pull the trigger, one less rabbit, only a small one. Walk the next fairway and see nothing,so i go behind the trees where there is a track running through some rough grass, sure enough a rabbit about 60 yds away, down on my belly and bipod and another one meets its maker, walk round the corner and shine down the next fairway and see 4 rabbits,i get down on the bipod and select the nearest, about 30yds and pop him,i flick the light off chamber another round and flick the light back on,there is still a rabbit there, line up the crosshairs and number 4 is in the pot. I go to a mound that sits about 20 feet above one of the fairways, and as i get there it starts to rain,i think its only going to be a shower so have a scan with the lamp,HELLO a set of eyes about 200yds away,i pull out my wam and give a squeak,in it comes, get down on my belly, bipod ready, quick shine and a squeak and its foxy trotting toward me,then the skys open up and it lashes it down, foxy is about 80yds away and i give a growl to stop it,it looks straight up at me and i pull the trigger, straight in the chest and it dropped on the spot, the rain is now so bad i can't see through my scope. I check it out and it is a young female, whip the camera out and take a photo, you can see the size of the rain drops in the photo. I decide to call it a night,i'm soaked to the skin, and the rifle will need some cleaning and oiling,so i walk back to the van, take my boots off and look at the time, exactly 45 minutes,so not a bad night. The second photo is a couple of rabbits at reading services on the m4,there were dozens of them,i gave a squeak and they all stood up for me
  17. All the problems can be fixed with the "new upgrade"
  18. Great photo, well done on your first rabbit.
  19. Nice one looks like you did her a favour. If you can squeak with your hand, then you will never forget a caller, and you can vary the tone and pitch, charlie will come running. Or a wam caller always seems to be very effective.
  20. Good shooting. It won't be long before you are through the 100 barrier.
  21. What a cute pup, good luck with her.
  22. Cheers adam, but i think we are at that stage where jake is subliminally training me  And when i miss a shot, the look he gives me
  23. Nice condition fox you got there. And a chance for a couple more on a return visit.
  24. It is an ongoing job, last year my shooting partner DaveP3@ and myself shot about 45 foxes in a 4 month period, the land owner had done over 100 in the year.with thousands of free range chickens, its like mcdonalds for foxes. Dave has done a couple of good write ups search for" pembrokeshire foxing",he has a very nice foxing set up.
