  1. Unfortunitly i am not all that upto date with the names of air rifles , if you look on the web i am sure you can find some good info. I would go for one of the popular makes BSA, Webley or the one i can't spell Weirharc from Germany., i used to have a HW35 export good starter in my day. I had more recently a Air Arms TX200HC a great underlever but heavy. The argument about .177 or .22 will go on for ever. The .177 shoots flatter so you don't have to aim above your target so much if you increase your range and the pellet goes in deeper , but the .22 has more delivers shock to your quarry. If i was you i would try and find someone near to you that you can go out with to show you the ropes.
  2. Not being horrible , but you must have respect for your quarry. Its great you are trying shooting. I started off like a lot of people on here with an air rifle and still have one. Shooting is mostly pratice to get the one shot one kill, you should learn the parts of your quarry to place your shot. For less than £200 you should be able to get a great outfit with scope good enough to hit a 10p piece at 30 yards everytime. Have fun
  3. I agree never shoot beyond your abilty, you should do some target shooting with a gun at the full 12 ft/lbs limit, if you can't shoot a 10p piece just about everytime at whatever range you are planing to shoot the pigeon keep trying untill you can , then have a go at the pigeon. As for a gun try buying Airgun World or simular or speak to a good gun shop. There are pleny of air rifles to do the job.
  4. I don't know a lot about the MTC Viper, are they that good, i will have to see if any of the gun shops in Cornwall do them.
  5. I have always used treats and praise when young then praise only as they get to the full on training.
  6. I had a Nikko Stirling years ago a 4 x 40 gold crown i think, it never held zero very well. I guess they have improved over the last 10 years, the Nighteater and Viper do look good. I know nothing about the Viper just looked at their website sounds very good.
  7. What size zoom do other use on their 17 hmr?
  8. Thats the kiddy, just what i've got, but i could not find a link.
  9. I got front a local gunshop a plastic snap open box. it takes 40 rounds laid flat a bit like this. http://www.alsarmynavy.com/p-2122-cci-22-l...-20rd-ammo.aspx

  11. When i bought my Silver Pigeon it came will a gel butt pad, i have no trouble with clays or game. I use a Clear Pigeon cartridge in 30g i think, and 24g for the clays.
  12. On my .22 rimfire Ruger 10/22 i have a simmons 3.5-10 x 50 whitetail classic, nice scope, but with the .17 hmr i think i want a bit more zoom, i have just got rid off a Tasco 3-9 x 40 that came with my CZ hmr, not up to it but ok for most things.
  13. Hi, There is some good shooting around, There are a few clubs that are run in the Plymouth area. These have permision in lots of different areas and woods in Cornwall and Devon. You pay a yearly fee, then you can shoot when you want including game in season. Try looking in the shooting press. If you don't want to pay you are just going to have to do it the hard way and knock on doors.
  14. Hello, I am looking to upgrade my scope on my .17 hmr, i shoot mostly rabbits out to about 150 yards, dawn and dusk and lamping. I have my own ideas but would be intrested in anyones recommendations. I don't want to spend more than about £200.00. Thanks in advance
