you cant beat the nostalgic smell of 303 gun oil, and of course it works but as a gun smith i use a mix of light oil and lanolin, as the oil evaporates the lanolin leaves a protective coating on the gun... that works for me.

thankyou for the debate on what bullet to use but to talk about how safe the shot is ! well thats just wrong, what would you like me to do discribe to you how much land ive got how many public right of ways there are, where the fox was when i shot it, or would you like me to tell you how many years ive been shooting...... cant you just accept the shot for what it is, and have some trust in people. in my experience personalities who have very little good to say about others achivements or expiriences are, week individuals and take great pleasure at knoking others to some how make them selfs feel better.thankyou Daz. As to all the other comments: taken in with great regards your cleary the type of responsible hunters that would all get along.

just thought i would share this with someone as i will never see it again... im a22lr man who was considering a 17hmr for foxes when im not shooting rabbits, ive always taken some high velocity 22 out with the possibility of shooting a fox. however on this particular night my mate and i were walking around the farm plincking off a few rabbits on the lamp, when we came across the tell tail eyes in the beam, we quickly turned the lamp off and i perssioned myself on a concrete pipe bridge over a stream about 70/80 yards away, dropped down my bypod turned the lamp on took aim just below his chops and shot with the high velocity. the fox didnt even flinch to my amazment he just seemend to lay down. we walked over to find that he was of curse stone dead, but to our amazment there was a vixen behind him half dead as well. at that point i never thought about the hmr again. has anyone else come across this.

the proof of rules state.....Barrel attachmet requiring proof means a device forming any part of barrel, removable or other wise, from or through which any part of the load would be discharged needs to be proofed. however this is only applicable for re-sale, since 2006.. if you have an un-proofed one before that date then it is on your head. does that answer your question? your local gunsmith. i take it your gun if 12 foot pounds? and your sights are set up at about 30 meters ish. the lamp you use isnt that important when shooting. when you start out if you can see the rabbit and shoot it then this is good enough.the lamp will come will expirience and preferance, so dont worry to much, my first lamp was a car spotlight and the rabbits dont care either. the idea about the filters are a couple of things they can reduce glare,can be less of a shock to the rabbit, or; and this is i feel the most important, assosiation. example. ...when a lot of people shoot the land at night with a lamp the rabbits become aware that everytime they see a white beam one of their mates get shot! you will recognise this by the fact that rabbits run off real quick and you dont get time to take aim. however if you change the colour to red or infact any other colour then they will be more likely to stand a little longer, giving you a better shot. if your lucky you might get a squater! a rabbit that squats down folds his ears back and trys to hide, you might only be able to see the glow of the eyes, but you might if your quiet walk almost within kicking distance. the best advice i can give you, is listen to what everyone says, but only take in what you think fits, with what you do1 and just go out and get some expirence. happy shooting from your local gunsmith. ive been thinking of getting me one of those ghillue suits to walk around the farm, has any one got an opinion on them are they practical when shooting rabbits. cheers Daz

hi there advice from a gun smith, Thats me! usally cz's are perfect nockaround guns with very little problems, i have one my self. the ammo you use should not be an issue as they all have to be the same size give or take a few hundreds of a mil. it does seem like the extractors are falling a little short, when you eject a cartridge which has been fired it does not have the lead bullet to hold it back. however if the lead is still in place it is usally forced some way into the rifling/chamber making the extractor work harder if the edge of the extractor has worn or just not machined the correct angle it will result in the problem you are having.........or the chamber is to sort and the lead is ramed hard into the rifleing, again making the extractor work harder. this can be an easy job to rectify but you do need the correct tools or you will scrap the gun... hope this has helped... midcounties blacking
