  1. Just a little add on to this, while at my main permission yesterday the farmer said that the next door farm was having a lot of trouble with Rooks/Crows over the sheep feeders and would I be interested in going and trying to help him out with them. So another permission lands at my feet in a lucky week ..... now't on the lottery though!

Moral of my story is that at times for some people it looks like it's impossible to get land to shoot over but be patient and keep trying and something will turn up. As the title of this topic say's Right place, Right time which has worked for me this week.

  2. Here are some pics from my recent walks around the farm.

Not big bags but that's not what I'm after as I just really enjoy getting out and having a walk around with the gun

and if any vermin show up then I try to deal with it.

  3. I have used these RealTree carts and Eley HB Pigeon and to be honest I can't tell the difference though I am pretty new to shotguns so the more experienced might have a different story. I do think the 30g RealTree's have slightly less recoil than the 32g HB's but with the RealTree's being green, they are a lot harder to find if you drop them or use a semi-auto. I was sick of searching for carts when I had the semi-auto.

Good price on them though (are they fibre wads?) and I would buy them for sure.

  4. While I was at work today I noticed the farmer was in the field next door (i have been trying to catch this farmer for a long time as he is not local to these fields) so I decided to try my luck.

"Good afternoon Sir, sorry to bother you while your busy but I'm trying to find some land to shoot over and was wondering if you have any vermin problems"

Now most of us have tried this question or similar on numerous occasions and after the question you wait to hear the ........

"Sorry, but we already have lads who shoot" or "Sorry, we don't have any problems so don't need any guns"

........ and I can understand these replies as it must be very difficult for a farmer to say yes to a complete stranger and allow them to walk around his land armed but today I never got those replies, the farmer said

"Yes, we get a lot of rabbits on this field and your very welcome to have a go at them"

:hmm: :look: Result ! :look: ;) It's only 3 fields but it's a lot closer than my other permission so I should be able to pop along for a few hours in the evenings if I fancy it.

  5. Theres one on egay just now going for £199.99

If it's the same one I've just seen it's now up to £1,040.00  (not sure if someone is trying to stitch up the sale as there are a lot of brand new ebayers bidding on it).

  6. Its not the bag that counts :P
Yeah I know but I can't help but get excited when I think I'm going to have a busy day.... Is that sad for a forty-something!

its not what you get ,its just being out there.
Your dead right and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

miss the easy ones hit the hard ones
Well on the easy one I missed, it was so close I could of probably swung my gun and hit it with the barrels..... better luck next time. :good:

    Great shooting mate
Cheers, wish I could get some of the bags you get though.
  7. If you wait until after the FEO has visited to buy your cabinet then the FEO will have to make another visit to check your cabinet. When the firearms dept rang me to arrange a time for the visit, the young lady said that if I was to be keeping the weapons at home then the cabinet would have to be fitted so it could be checked during the visit.

So in short, fit your cabinet before the visit.

  8. Thats Ok Jo, only a bunch of guys from our club got pulled over going to the range one morning and when they said there were firearms on board the cop said he would have to call the firearm squad as he could`nt touch the guns.

I know Dan`s situation was a little different so maybe different rules apply, I`m sure someone will be along to tell me different.

    Kevin

That might be slightly different as they were stopped in a car with the weapons locked in the boot but I'm sure any police officer can check on your details (name, address and so on) if they stop you carrying a weapon in the street. If it is then discovered it is firearms they might then call in firearms officers to deal with it.
