  1. Unfortunately these are the farm cats so i can't sort them. The trap is now on a pallet about 3ft in the air. Its in a great spot beside the hen house which is under the tree that they sit in, silage bales and relatively near the steading. I've shot 2 in this area but that was 2 weeks ago. They could be rooks, big ******* they are. Frustrating as I paid £50 for the trap.
  2. Dave, I have had the trap set for a fewe days now but the doors seem to be getting sprung but nothing getting caught. I 've had to raise the trap off the ground as the farm cats were getting involved! Also one section of hazel wasnt entirely straight so I think it has been setting off the other door when it gives in. All in all it seems to be taking a while to get anything. Does the spring pressure make any difference?
  3. Dave, Thanks for the pics I shall set them up just as! I'll post the results soon hopefully. Thanks for taking the time to post the pics
  4. Any chance of a diagram? It would make a bit more sense to me if I could see. Cheers.
  5. Thanks chaps. I tried garden cane cut in half but the pressure of the spring kept forcing the two peices apart.
  6. I bought a larsen trap at scone yesterday to help control the black stuff round the hen house. Its a double side entry variety in galvansised steel. However I am puzzeled as how to set the spring doors on it? It didnt come with any bits do do this and I have just a bit of garden cane teetering on the edge of holding the door open in an attempt that something lands on it and gets pushed in by the door. The trap is like this but has side doors opening outwards. Can anyone offer some advice as how to set the thing? Many thanks.
  7. Come on Deutschland!!!! Cracking result to shut those smug TV pundits up pack your bags.
  8. What your looking for is not out of the question. What about selling direct to a meat packers? I know up here the local one deals direct with farmers. It supplies most of the major supermarkets.
  9. A decent beast for the fat trade will make up to and sometimes over a grand. Doesnt matter if they arent specific breeds. The majority of cattle for the beef market are not just a pedigree breed. Most are crosses out of Limousin, British Blue or Charolis continental cattle. So if you any of these then you should be fine. If they are store calves then I say the price seems fine. You wont get near a grand for them unless they are show calves. I hold on to them fatten them up of the summer grass and get them finished and sell in 6 months.

  12. 1" High @ 100yrs. Federal Power Shock 100gn.
  13. Great work. The last one is a whopper. Do you get many lowland red your way?

  15. Cheers bob, some reading ahead!
  16. Bit random, but does anyone know of specific Fire/HSE legislation or offences regarding falsely discharging an extinguisher? i.e. no fire Pertaining to Scotish law or failing that UK wide.
  17. I think you need to be mindful of one thing here. The definition of a 'public place'. There are many definitions for this in many different peices of legislation. For the equivilent legislation in Scotland a public place is = any place at the material time the public have access, whether on payment or otherwise. I would argue that this wouldn't be your locked motor... However leaving a knife on display in your car parked on a high street or carpark is not I would say a bright idea as is having a machete behind your seat. Any police officer seeing that would be asking serious questions of you. Best keep them out of sight and stick to driving away from the masses.
  18. Well after some advice from Wymberly regarding the ballastics software and distances required to zero a rifle at 100 yrds at 1" High I have zeroed my Tikka .243 to this distance. Having tested it out to 132yrds (As far as I could get today) it groups pretty well having My first zero point for the 100gn Federal Power Shock was 48 yrds. I have a 30m measuring tape so this was measured. 48 yrd target is not included as it was subsquently peppered with the rimmy which also came out today. This use of ballastics theory seems to work and its a lot easier sighting in at 48yrds initially than going straight out for the 100yrd. I think the results considering my experience with a center fire, not using homeloads etc, slight breeze flowing are very good and more than adequate for taking fox and deer out to 180 yrds. Although I do not wish to shoot at that distance if possible as the target looks small enough at 132yrds! First target is the 100 yrd one and comes in approx an inch high off the bull and a bit less than an inch for lower shot. This was the best gouping I got out of 6 shots. Second target is at 132yrds and was the best grouping I had today and groups in around 1.5inches. I'm not used to shooting that distance so I think it is tighter just that its me that is the inconsitancy. Having now done this the next challenge is live quarry as I now feel after some 100 rnds later that I am shooting the gun to my capailities and any quarry shot will be shot where I want the bullet to go. Thanks for reading and thanks to Wymberley for running the software and Steve B for some words of encouragement when produced some of the earlier groupings.
  19. So if you have a license to cull geese on a license granted by DEFRA you can shoot them with a rifle? Will it say it in the licence?
