  1. I have been on a few game shoots as a gun, on all the shoots beaters always call when birds are flushed it gives the guns a small ammount of time to get ready for the birds especailly partridges which fly very fast. everyone on the gun line is very gratefull for beaters that call birds when flushed. sounds like keeper is a bit of an ars*****.
  2. I would definetly let a gunsmith do it may end up an expensive job if you make a mistake. i had a browning 425 sporter fitted with a kick-eez pad, gunsmith didn't charge that much to fit it i paid more for the pad itself. good luck anyway.
  3. I would stick with improved cylinder (1/4 choke) as well it does depend on distance from your target for long distance shots you could get a tighter pattern from a modified choke (1/2). chokes increase or decrease constriction of the barrel depending on the choke used. Cylinder skeet 1/8 choke Improved cylinder 1/4 choke Modified 1/2 choke Improved modified 3/4 choke full 1/1 choke the higher choke the more constriction of the barrel increaseing pattern tightness and distance there is a few topics on this subject have a search.
  4. Never heard of that before i have applied twice for my cert just got my second a couple of months ago never heard anything like that before usually they come round ask a few questions inspect your security gun cabinet etc and have a chat, then they can get a gp medical report and sometimes a crb check they usually talk to your countersigner as well but your situation is a new one on me i suppose every county firearms unit has its regs as well as the ammount of time to get your cert. hope it goes well just do everything they want you to do best chance to get your cert.
  5. I know coaches who use 21gm carts for less recoil, its not just down to mounting gun poorly this can be an issue but there is a great deal of causes for felt recoil injuries and your body weight and form are all factors i had qualified instruction every week for about 4 months before i got my Shotgun cert i have good mount but i still feel recoil every now and then from 28gm so to stop this completely i use 21gm this increases my shooting score considerable as i am not waiting or flinching expecting the recoil.
  6. I use Lylevale express HV 21gm 7.5s they destroy clays just as good as 28gm i don't notice any difference except they have hardly any recoil and are cheaper just try a 100 or so of each type try lylevale, hull comp x and the eley first light see which you prefer.
  7. I would get your cabinet put in place otherwise he will just have to come out to see you again wasting your time and his, even after he has been to see you he still will most likely contact your countersigner to double check they know you and what they have signed for and they may contact your GP to get a medical report this all takes time, and a criminal record (CRB) check. the time scale depends on the police force in question mine was about 13 weeks with humberside but every force is different, as long as your polite and friendly everything will go fine and a cuppa tea and biscuit helps. good luck
  8. Hey they do but they want stupid prices for it as well, there shotguns are the dearest around don't take your shotgun there for a P/X they won't give you a good price, they want it off you for next to nothing and they won't even hagle they say a price and that's it. better gunshops around and cheaper.
  9. Hi you could try fitting a recoil pad to your gun kick-eez are good and try using lighter cartridges i use lylevale express HV 21gm 7.5s any 21gm cartridge should give you a hell of alot less recoil just try a few out to see what suits you best a few good ones are hull cartridge comp x 21gm 7.5s or eley first lights 21gm any of these will significantly reduce reoil i don't notice any shooting difference between 21gm and 28gm cartridges apart from recoil. if you were desperate to stick to 28gm cartridges you could try hull cartridge chevron 28gm they a subsonic so have less reoil hope thats some help. i would try different carts before spending money fitting a recoil pad or a combination of reoil pad and 21gm carts i think would definitaly do it.
  10. I would try a 21gm 7.5s either lylevale express HV or hull comp or new eley first lights all are probably cheaper than most 28gm cartridges and have a hell of alot less recoil but don't compromise on shot patterning i use lylevale express HV they break clays just as good as any 28gm.
  11. Hi i had an hatsan escort black synthetic 12g multi bought brand new for about £320 excellent to shoot with and cycles very smoothly and i would recommend to anyone, for that price what else do you want had it for 2 years with no problems.
  12. If your would def go for 30" barrels i myself have a browning cynergy inflex sporter with extended diamond invecta chokes i love it best gun i have ever had i used to own a browning 425 sporter but it depends on you and whats comfortable cynergy's are like marmite you either love them or hate them, i love there modern stylish look, and there a good solid gun and they shoot excellent but thats my opinion, but the 525 is also good but i wanted something abit different and modern. it also depends on your budget i paid about £1400 second hand cynergy in mint condition with excellent wood. i have had a shoot with the new beretta prevail excellent gun but very expensive bit out of my price range our lass moaned at me getting cynergy. try out the gun before you buy if possible don't forget if your spending alot on it 'its got to feel right and it will last you alot of years.
  13. I have used both eley blue's and eley first 28gm 7.5's excellent cartridges can't fault them, have you tried the new eley lights 21gm 7.5's can't feel any recoil when using them at moment i am using lylevale express HV 21gm 7.5's brilliant cartridge and got at a good price £116 for 1000 most 21gm cartridge are about same price less than 28gm but still break clays very well i can't notice any difference between 21gm and 28gm apart from recoil. any way you use what suits you best try a few differnet types of cart to find out, no point buying loads of carts that you don't get on with.
  14. I am an impatient chap they come loose and I'm always screwing ends on and off. I have a 1 piece rifle rod and it so much simpler. Did think of getting 3 1 piece rods and having a seperate one for brush, mop and jag. Might just threadlock the threads on my existing one! Can't see why someone doesn't make a 1 piece jobbie tho........ [/quote If your desperate for a one piece try. Click on link Euroguns
  15. Hey thats same price as one at euroguns but theres is one piece but you can get 2 peice as well for easy storage. both them at deepblueshooting are 2 piece
  16. No need to bother using anything else just one piece mop the material mop is made from is very good at cleaning all residue off inside of your barrels, what do you mean how do you use them, break your shotgun push mop down both barrels move in and out a couple of times, barrels clean job done. when mop gets really dirty with cartridge residue and oil it can be washed with fairy liquid or any washing up liquid rinsed clean and left to dry ready to use again.
  17. I Got a 1 piece cleaning rod/mop from euroguns it was about £13 i think it cleans my 12g very well gets rid of all cartridge residue look around other gunshops sell them instead of messing about using a rod with multiple heads no need changing heads this does it all in one.
  18. Hi everyone, i do think that everyone should at least have a basic knowledge of shotguns, safety and cartridges before getting a SGC, i was asked a few questions about shotgun safety and cartridges when i was interviewed by FEO, i also had shooting lessons before i applied for my SGC which helped me when getting one. There are alot of SGC holders out there with little or no shotgun knowledge or safety. saw one last week at clay ground was shooting his gun without any chokes in he wondered why he was not hitting anything and probably damaged his barrels to boot, he said he didn't think you need them in was en expensive beretta as well
  19. Does sound abit of a none question really you should know what cartridges your using especialy when different cartridges are used for different shooting tasks
  20. I usually use 7.5 or 8 i just bought some lylevale express 21grm HV 7.5 they are excellent and a bit cheaper too can hardly feel any recoil with them i usually use eley 24grm 7.5 but like these now. no disadvantages useing 8 over 7.5 for normal clays but for those really long range shots you might try useing a bit more choke to give a tighter pattern to break the clay.
  21. I would recommend getting some lessons i got them when first started shooting it helped me get my first SGC had mine at cottondale shooting ground on staxton hill with allen excellent lessons helped me alot with stance and with general shooting was told i am a fairly natural shot it always helps with someone telling you were your missing a clay and how to best over come it once you know you hardly miss same target again.
  22. It took about 4 months from sending application to getting certificate with humberside firearms and a few phone calls. dont forget they need to send an FEO for a home visit and check security, check on your countersigner and sometimes get a medical report from your GP this all takes a long time especially waiting on a GP for a medical report if after all that they still have any concerns they could do a check for previous convictions as long as you were honest on your application and interview you will be ok even if you have minor convictions but them down as long as your not a murder, have voilent tendaces or are a few sandwiches short of a picnic or lie on your application, you'll get one.
  23. I got my SGC about a week ago from humberside firearms after waiting about 4 months and hundreds of phone calls chasing them up, i think they have gone down hill since my last application about 6 years ago it took about 4 weeks from application to getting my certificate through door. What i was surprised about was they paid for a medical report from my GP costing £34 i only paid £50 for the certificate firearms unit must loose money only charging this ammount and paying for reports and FEO's time and paper work.so i suppose for what money they get from certificate applications and renewals, they do the best they can they are stretched and have more important matters I.E murders, rapists and drug dealers to arrest. So shouldn't moan really but both officers who visited me one for my interview and other to check my cabinet security were not firearms officers there had been asked to call when they had time from doing other duties and one was a PCSO.
