Without a doudt there is some strange things going on in the pigeon world in terms of feeding times and what area they are in etc.
Last week loads of birds this week I think gone back to feeding young and breeding has caused a lack of birds to show on the fields.
I have never seen farmer in my area so slow to started cutting it looks fit ,went to northampton shooting ground loads of cutting and birds around pitsford village.

I dont think there is any real science to what shot size for live pigeon shooting as each has there own views.
The only thing I would say as a pigeon shooter who has for the last ten years shot 8 to 10 thouasand birs per year .
Is that if I am shooting a 6s either 30 for summer 32s for winter I have the gear and weaponary to take birds out at 40 yards plus on average at distance on regular basis with clean kills ,more than say a shooter with 28inch barrels and 28grams of 7.5s .
We all know the days when birds track pass the deeks at 40 yards which is more often than pulling into the deeks 25 yards out.
The thing is if on the rare occasions I am shooting to heavier a load for the situ I can move and take the birds at the ulimate range .
But if you are shooting and the birds are out at 40 yards plus you know that trying to get the birds closer is just sometime impossable.
To me this why birds are becoming more diffcult to shoot and wary, not because of shooting pressure but alot of pricked unkilled birds are surviving rouge light pellets shot by shooters.

Another area is around swindon on the aldbounre / lambourne downs area lots of space the downs IMO are lovely in all seasons.
And swindon is a quick drive to the station and swindon does not suffer the traffic headache that other larger towns have.
Like the Chippy area the M4 is very close and juct 15 16 is very central for your needs bath being the closest .
As said I live very close to the stanford in the vale area we live in what I call a soft area not much traffic but enough services to make it pleasant place to be.

Also the boys who are shooting the 7.5s 28 grams and smaller whats your average cart to kill ratio??
Will be intresting reading IMO.
Mine with 6s in 32gram or 30 gram during the summer is roughly between 70 to 75 birds to ever 100 cartridges.

I've shot Eley HB pigeon, 32gm, 6.5s for woodies for years, and would not dream of changing, or utilising a clay busting load.
To try and add something to this debate, I've visited the website of Hull Cartridge Co, and selected the two attached charts which indicate the given velocity in M/sec at a given distance. Its worth a look.
The bottom line is; the smaller the pellet, the lower the terminal velocity, and therefore due to the lower weight of the smaller pellet ,results in less energy being imparted into the shot bird or clay as the case may be. Please remember that it takes a lot less energy to kill a pigeon cleanly, than it does to break a clay; its horses for courses. McF proved this many years ago when he only had some snazzy 8s Browning cartridges. Hitting the pigeon was not a problem, getting them to play dead for long enough to pick was another matter. Sorry chaps, been there, done that, no thanks. We have a duty of care to kill cleanly, please don't forget that.
Have a look at the two links, see what you think.

Good old willow or salix do have a habbit of twisting and failing the willows need a good coppice ever other year really to stop this happening.
Glad all was OK it shows how a freak accident can happen .
As for wood you need to store for two years min and then only on a logburner really as it will still spit and it does tar up the chimmey or flue.
Have you cut it up yet.

Returned to field my dad shot 172 on sat laid wheat the birds where there but not in the numbers on sat.
I setup in the same place but after a short while I knew I was in the wrong place the wind had shifted a little.
So packed up and upto the top of the field it was 1830 hrs now with the grand sum of 2 birds that some changed and a good steady flow and finnished with 51 and lossed a few Merlin is passed his best at 13 to search for too long.
He had a nice dip to cool down afterwards.

Good two days I give you that is that the two days of that equals 700 plus you said about.
It would have been good to have the birds lined up as there spread all over the place it hard to work out how many there is.

I only guessing that you have friends that you have dealing with that the fuzz are or know have links with crime or crimes.
Which makes you in there eyes liable to suppy a SG or FA to aid in a crime
Which is why they have reovoked your ticket totally above borad and in my view I can see why but without complete facts it hard to judge.

I prefer 9s 21 grams myself
28grams Yes 7.5 on average No .
I am willing to head to head with any shooter with them using 7.5s and me 6s .
And I bet I would win kill to cartridge ratio.

To be honest for the sake of £30 or £50 I would have it fitted by someone who knows what they are doing with the right tools.
No disrespect to you meant but if you are going to look at it etc and looks a mess with ripples.
:look:
Good luck with whatever you decide.
Take a photo when finished
I agree and I think its funny how a bloke who sells helicopters wants to save a few quid.
