  1. Type A for trained users protection cover front and outside off left leg and inside right leg.

Type C for persons not using a chainsaw regularly front and rear protection.

Now the other factor is type and saw top cutting speed as various classes from 0 to 3 to match your legging with saw .

And the most inportant thing to buy is chainsaw boots as they are more exposed than your legs .

Buy the best you can Stihl or husky IMO.

And you cant beat just good old common sense and good safe saw usage standing to side of the saw eg not looking down the saws blade when cutting.

  2. I agree I was one of the poster who was most vocal about the lack of pigeons and dont mind saying it would look like I was wrong .

But time will tell the only I will say despite some cracking bags compared to some on this forum I am still down on birds shot compared to last two years.

    Eating humble pie OTH

  3. Birds have changed too early morning feeding about a month earlier than normal.

I still shoot until mid sept from 1200hrs till 1830hrs normally.

But I spotted birds in huge numbers using a wheat stubble at just after sunrise 0600hrs ish yesterday while taking the digs out.

Had a go this morning rolled three round bales together the birds poured in for a hour and half then stopped.

Very much like winter rape shooting ,during the day there are spread about like you say cranny.

  4. Any reason why as pigeons dont touch the stuff when drilled :hmm: .

I normally visit my farmers with OS map and highlight the fields drill so I know where they are for the coming season.

As a rough guide 2nd week off september but some crack it in late august weather is the biggest factor.

  5. I too have been having some cracking bags 8 ton bags in 4 weeks for me.

But the thing that strikes me as strange is my 200 day bags have dropped off I would on average shoot 4 to 6 200 plus bags a year.

Keep at old boy Regards OTH

  6. I was one of the that had some concerns over shooting the birds this winter in the colder times.

But at the current rate I am going to be back to normal on numbers .

I have accounted for over 1400 birds in 4 weeks start of harvest to today.

    So in our area no.

    Regards OTH

  7. This year says it all to me about farmers and contractors stretching it to limit with staff and combines /tractors it.

I shoot for one guy who farms 9500 acres accross oxon/wilts/glouscester.

He only has 2 very large combines now in a dry year no problem also ever farm has binned there dryers .

But on a upside pigeon shooting has been great with standing crops been beaten and birds all over it .

It reminds me of I think 1996 when we where still cutting in the 2nd week of october.

My dad told me a story of when they had massive floods on the thames and crops where flooded they cut the corn in dec driving the combine though ice and just cutting the tops of the wheat.

I think they will be done by the end of this week on the farms that have there own combines but the contractors will be into sept 100%.

    Regards OTH

  9. This has probably been asked before but I just wanted to get peoples opinions, I am an Estate Agent (no remarks please lol) and work from 8:30 till 6:30 Monday to Friday and have to work every Saturday 9-5, which is a tad inconvenient, so I really only have a Sunday or the evenings, and just wondered what people did for work and when they get out with the gun, I havnt been out for a while and thinking of moving agents as I have no time for myself.

You do know that its against the law for your employer to make you work 6 days a week .

Unless by your agreement so I would be asking to either knock sat on the head or a day in the week off,and ask to to op into the max 48 hour contract.

As you are work aboove those hours .

    Regards OTH
