  1. Considering the time and effort many put into that day, I am disappointed to read your post Chard.

The forum has been quieter in all areas recently, not just the clay shooting section. A lot of the Essex lads (myself included) simply dont shoot clays as much as we did, I got my shotgun out on Wednesday for the first time since the Hodnet shoot - and that was for a game shoot.

I have "done my bit" by organising this years charity shoot and tried to keep as many people as happy as possible. It will be interesting to see if any of the people with all the opinions will be stepping up to the mark and taking on the organisation of next years charity shoot.

Well said I too was disapointed if you cant pull each others leg then whats the point next somebody will say they are off work work with STRESS due to some banter on PW .

Dry your eyes mate spring to mind.

Kind regards OTH and hope I have not offend anybody.

  2. A friend of mine has had to sadly put up for sale his beloved series 2A landy.

Tax free will be MOTed in the next week lots of dents rust doors dont shut propley the normal landy things.

Viewing welcome is on outskirts of aylesbury .

PM me and I will forward his number.

Picture poor sorry its the only one I have got from a greenlanning day.

Not sure of the year but is on a K reg

Not sure if mileage is needed as you buy a old landy on condition rather than mileage.

    2.25 lt petrol

    Cheers OTH

Sorry forgot the price he wants £1500

  3. Good bag I have struggled to get out due to work but dad has had a couple of very good days in the last week.

And who cares lead or no lead we as humans are doing more damage to enviroment worldwide than me or you shootin a bit of lead over wetlands or stubbles crack on IMO.

    Kind regards OTH

  4. we should have a simple yes no survey on pigeonwatch with a do you think numbers are in decline with a chart of counties..southwest.. northwest.. midlands..east anglia and so on;just a thought

I think thats a good idear but the only real problem is the pork pies shooters tell like I shoot 700 in two days when it didnt not occur .

I look at sporting pictures for the geninue guys like yourself who tells the truth not some of the waffle claimed on this forum and others and make my judgment on bird number from them.

    Regards OTH

  5. Webber speedo is not a legal requirement why not use the tried and tested wind sock you can measure how fast your going by how errect it is on the mast.

One locally the same as yours sold for £2800 with test and ticket.

    Kind regards OTH

  6. I think bird number are down if oxfordshire compared to last te years I keep a detailed diary and now a photo diary along with the writen one.

I would be intrested in Will Beasley thoughts as he is on the boarders joinning my boundary area and see what he thinks and also his clients.

Now the debate in this years harsh weather was a complete diffrent matter for me it was about compassion not about protection of future sport or crop protection.

Now is the humble woody in decline maybe not but maybe with have reached its max and any decline would only bring it back to level reached 20 years ago.

Less all not forget that today sport of woody shooting is a direct result of the farming methods caused by WW2 and the land I shot hundreds of birds today was part of a giant tank play area attached to salisbury plain .

I think birds are shifting areas more and the old local birds are not as fixed as they where 10/20 years ago it use to be genarally that if you had a influx of birds into your area in late sept /oct on autumm gales they would stay put on your winter OSR till spring not no more.

The other thing to add is we as human beings tried to kill rabbits with the awful mixy and we failed ,no matter how many woodys we shoot we will never dent the population on our own shooting actions ,maybe we could if like some we shoot them in harsh winter weather and kill 100 of thousands .

But one of reasons we will fail is masses of UK has been covered with houses with its own micro climates where woodys will hold out and breed.

    Regards OTH

  7. I think £10 is a fair price if i gave them away for free anyone would have them and i want them to go to good homes. i am fair if some one was wanting a few we could talk about the price. or if for example it was a young lad wanting to get in to ferreting then i would let him have it.

I totally agree as a owner of 15 ferts I cant belive anybody think £10 is too much for the wonderful joy and sport ferts can bring.

Yet they are totally willing to by a springer lab etc for £700 maddness.

    Good luck OTH

  8. I think that there are more and more of us shooters chasing the woodpigeon. The decline may just be the fact that as they are getting "hammered" from all angles (like here in Yorkshire), they are just spread out and sometimes harder to decoy as well as not flocking together in such numbers. I am seeing birds getting warier and warier lately, on some of my permissions they appear to be getting use to my car. I have been doing well though, but only using real birds as decoys in small patterns. Many folk are not truely decoying them in and taking long shots.

    Cheers

Totally agree I know I will upset a few by my comments as it has done before but I watched a couple of blokes the other day and the distants they where shooting at birds was amazing scary the hell out of them rather than killing them.

Shooters using too light a load to kill pigeons means that birds are wising up and staying clear.

Some shooters need to where cowboy hats because thats how they shoot IMO.

I watched a sporting video post on here the other day and yes there where knocking them down but boy they had alot of runners.

I had the rare chance to shoot on some much sort after NT land where the birds have not been shoot at regular and I shot 176 in under 3 hours as decoyed wonderfully.

    Regards OTH

  9. Whilst in Scotland last week with Mcf, we each bought a magazie that we wouldn't normally buy. I can't remember the title of either, (no, they wern't porno, before anyone starts).

McF drew my attention to an article showing a shooting truck to whick someone had fitted in the rear a fork lift truck mast fitted with a suitable platform and rest; the article claimed that a height of 17 ft was attainable, although I wouldnt fancy touring the fields lashed to that, although it would be very handy as a highly mobile high seat. It was this article that inspired me to re think the hole in the roof idea.

    webber

Webber the story of using a forlift mast brings back memories of after the storm of 87 when I drove a matbro only aged 13 and a farm hand in the bucket cutting branches sometimes it moved 5 or 6 feet he was cutting and then had to stop cutting until the boom swung back towards the branch.

Very scary for him regards OTH

  10. 10WM certainly does know what he's doing; but I'm affraid that I no longer wish to associate with him.

    webber

Thats a shame but he sure didnt like the farm boy who has never shot clays give a little bit of run for his money at hodnet.

Not passing oxford on your travels TO SURREY as you could pop in for a brew.

    Cheers OTH

  11. Lots in the woods I have been working on some cracking pigeon shooting coming up as we have very little game shooting so can shoot the woods year round.

But naff all beechmast strange how it varies from area to area.

    Regards OTH

  12. good bag and nice shooting, when were they cut

Last week the field is littered with beans we had rain today and I recced the field covered again out tommorrow if I can get a a crown thinning job done quickly and safely .

The worst thing is I have loaned my camera to my stepson to take pictures of a recent tilling job for his portfolo and will not have for tommorrow and I still cant upload the pictures of sat bag to my computer.

    Regadrs OTH

  13. Pigeons all over them, but like I said, someone had been shooting them the day before, so they were not comming anywhere near the decoys, so I had to try and find somewere else to shoot :D

How many did you end up with :P

Thanks for all the comments

Totally missed the first paragraph as always I had gone straight to pictures without reading propley just like when I was at school.

I finnished with 176 and just come home and found a half cut bean field with birds pouring in,I will try to get out tommorrow.

Regards OTH and sorry for not reading your post propley.

  14. You have got to be a complete idiot to crash either EVO OR Scooby I have found even though my scooby is slower than my M5 its faster point to point and to make the scooby break loose is very hard where the M5 spins in 4th at 100mph in the wet.

Crumpets the EVO only has 270 bhp not really all that much IMO.

Very silly boys having said that the car is covered by the police forces insurance .

    Regards OTH

  15. I think there is a bit of 'penis envy', going on here, how the hell do some of you manage to control 10,000 acres, let along know the ground well enough to control it effectively. To all you new chaps on here who are stuggling to get started do not be dis heartened by all these stories, some will be true and well earned, others will just be a few taps on the key board. Its not the size of your permission its the quality of the shooting you get, give me a 100 acres of mixed woodland with boar, reds, fallow, Roe and munties with a few acres of mixed cerial for the rabbits, pigeons and corvids over 30,000acres of desert, though I'm still searching for that 100acres.

I think your comments are really unfair to the geninue shooters who have either put in hard work over years or had the luck meeting the right farmers etc.

The main reason some have alot of ground is they spend more time out and about rather than putting pointless nasty jealous comments about others on forums.

Sure I agree with you there will be some pork pies but here in oxfordshire and wiltshire its very easy with the average farm 1000 acres it only needs 5 /6 yes and you have alot of ground in one go.

    Kind regards OTH
