  1. Its not a good choice - Its an EXCELLENT choice, had mine 8 months and love it (though I draw the line at sleeping with it). Handles like a dream and great fit.finish and trigger.
  2. IMHO your right Starlight, semi's are very popular Stateside- being far cheaper than an entry level o/u or sxs. Also its very versatile when you consider the different sorts of hunting available - turkey, waterfowl and deer (slugs/buckshot) plus upland bird hunting for pheasant, chukar, grouse etc. There is a demand for o/u's and sxs's for the various disciplines but the s/a is certainly the best allrounder if you've only got one gun in the house.

  7. Ahem, where in my posts am I knocking what the hunters are doing? Because i'm afraid I can't find that part. The reason why I mentioned dogs flushing the birds is because i'm describing the video to another member that can't see the clip. I posted the video because I thought it was different, surprising and quite humourous, but I guess some people just need to lighten up? OK - I'll retract my previous statement - I'm always spoiling for a row on Monday mornings
  8. MuddyFunker Glad to read your open minded views of foreign hunting culture Personally I don't hunt with a bow but that doesn't mean I knock those that do. By the way what do you normally flush birds with if not dogs??? Best rgds NB.

  15. Your right SS - the chukar is a supersized Redleg - a MacPartridge I suppose. So are they not found in coveys like the grey and redlegs over here are or is it that its not cold enough for them to have done so yet. Seems weird to have one flush and not others at the same time. SS Still warm over here SS c.45f - I've Pm'd you about your other question.

  17. We drove out to a hunting preserve in Pennsylvania on Saturday for my first taste of Stateside hunting. With our guide Joe and his two GSP's we hit the fields in search of chukar (partridge) We walked...... And then walked some more - the dogs working hard In places the sorghum is at head height so you can see why sticking out like a sore thumb in orange is not a bad idea. We get a point, Joe and Tim look for a bird in cover......but wisely its done a runner We get another point - even though we can see the bird the dog is rock steady before getting the command to flush. The bag for the day. Sunday dinner - partridge breast with bacon, veggies and onion gravy....luvvverly. Had a great day so we're off somewhere else for pheasant next weekend
  18. We're actually hunting at a private club but if **** Cheney does shows up I'll let you know.
  19. Wookie - mandatory wearing Blaze orange depends on the State and the type of hunting. Most seem to require some blaze orange when bird hunting. Wearing hi-viz does look odd to us more used to tweed/camo but you have to remember that a lot of hunting in North America take splace on public land. Unlike a UK shoot on private land with people shooting from pegs and a disciplined beatig line, or a small group of rough shooters over here you may not know the location of everyone in the immediate vicinity - blaze orange eliminates some of the risk. I'm off on my first upland bird hunt tomorrow so will try to take some pictures. And for those concerned I will be using a break open gun....
  20. It would appear that my debit card details ended up in the wrong hands - odd thing is that I haven't used the card at all in the last year since my last trip back to UK. The thief made three smallish charges and then made two big payments to Mortgage Express - whoever that might be.
  21. Barclay Customers beware - especially if you have a dormant account. I decided to check on my rarely used UK Barclays account via internet banking and found that some scrote has been fraudulently using my Connect card number to the tune of 1800 quid over the last 10 days. I've just spent an hour on the phone with Barclays trying to straighten this out - the whole thing only made slightly easier by being able to talk to someone in England and not downtown Bangalore. No doubt I'll get the money back in due course but I thought it only right to share the grief!
  22. Yeah your being very selfish - I say this becasue I have no idea where JJ's is ... Dartford I think  From what I have seen of the pics taken, JJ's is a saturday/sunday only ground with no proper facilities (I may be wrong). Bearing that in mind a trip to a bonafide clay ground is preferable meaning we get to sit down in the warm and get decent grub. Grub being the mainstay of any PW massive meetup. I will enquire at Highlodge this week and report back about costs etc. SS Highlodge sounds much better (and nearer) to me. I've been spoilt in the US cos anywhere WITHOUT good food, roaring log fires, hot and cold running waitresses sounds like roughing it to me.
