  1. Completely agree Kent and i have pulled him up on it already! The safety was on as I have taught him to leave it on until the moment you need to get the shot off, but fingers should only go on the trigger when it is going to be pulled!
  2. You want a pup from mine ......lol. My lad has numerous Ftch & Ftw in his pedigree, but is a proper Lab with a thick double coat, webbed feet, good frame and really important a good head. I see too many labs nowadays that look more like a whippet than a Lab. As a wildfowling dog he excells, happy to sit for hours in a wet muddy hole then will retrieve anything that is presented from anywhere! Also we beat on a few shoots and is the dog that is called for when some of the trialling dogs who pick up cannot find shot birds! If you want a Lab buy a Lab that looks like a Lab, buy it on how the parents work not just on the lineage and train it to work how you want it to work.
  3. If you could mate, have an associate out for his 1st flight and thinking of a trip to Hill. Be good to know what's about. Thanks.
  4. Where you going mate? I am out Sunday am again - unless I get one in tomorrow night as well!!
  5. Teal is my favourite, but a good mallard can run close. Wigeon does sometimes vary in taste. I just slow roast Canada geese over a good litre of stock, with the foil over the bird. Always done alright for me.
  6. Put me down for a copy if it reads like the above.
  7. Same here, can't fault mine and I really should look after it better!!
  8. Evening flight was a little quiet, 1 good chance came our way but unfortunately my lad missed a little behind. Plus points he knew why he missed and we have another budding wildfowler in our ranks.
  9. Yes mate, doing the Arlingham, hill & frampton associate flights. How about you?
  10. Had 2 mallard for 3 shots, dog made 2 nice retrieves from the water so all in all pretty happy. Out again later so fingers crossed.
  11. You can when it's the 1st of September and the ducks are flying
  12. Cheers mate, he's a cracking fowling and beating dog. Looking to put him to stud this year as have a list of people wanting a pup from him. Back out tonight for some more and taking my lad out for his 1st flight as a junior member.
  13. That will be me then, 2 for 3 shots at strong flying birds. Let a few young birds through. [/url]
  14. We had the same problem last year on both of these marshes and the consent from NE, again they want to impose unworkable restrictions on visits etc. The club doesn't lie down and take it and does fight NE. But as I see it NE just do what they want.
  15. Our club has had to stop shooting on 2 of the marshes temporarily (I hope!) Due to NE issues. Really hope they get it sorted soon.
  16. Brilliant, seeing your kids get there first bird and the delight on their face is priceless. Well done all.
  17. It was great mate, fair play they have done a fantastic job on it. Booking will be online in the members section soon.
  18. Chosen my marsh for the 1st but not sure which spot to head to. Had a great day out at the Glos wildfowlers open day today, lots of talk of marshes and birds!
  19. In testament to PW and in paticular the wildfowling section I have received some very kind offers. Hopefully I will be heading to the Solway in late October to catch my first sight of the pinks any thing else would just be a bonus. Might even be a further trip to Scotland in the new year and possibly a flight inland Norfolk way. Thanks gents.
  20. Done miles and miles with the dogs looking at the marshes. We have literally hundreds of mallard flighting Into our pond, looks like all the work on the pond is paying off. A strict limit of 2 brace per gun will be on the 1st night.
  21. Loads like that are getting into semi auto territory for anything more than a handful of shots, no matter how "good" the cartridge is the physics dictates the recoil will be noticable at best. Can't see the high bird shoots accepting autos any time soon
  22. went to Dartmouth on holiday last weekend, fished off the front with feathers and caught loads, took a few for dinner they were great.
  23. That's what we did this year, hatched a total of 46 chicks, managed to get 44 back out on the pond.
