  1. Oh Chaps, really.... Hell yes you can shoot 60+ yards with a FAC air rifle. I tried to make my wee take extremely obvious...... Though I do still stand by my statement that 100ftlb (ideally 1000ftlb) is needed before the rabbit will fall. Don't forget, they have Dragon Skin armour. Sheesh, you guys are no fun at all.......
  2. No no no. Even in FAC, shooting beyond 60 yards is impossible. These people have done/not done it. To think that an air rifle can shoot beyond 40 yards is crazy. If you need more than 40, then centre fire is the way to go. For fudge sake, think of the quarry!! They need at least 100 ftlb on target, otherwise the Gods of hunting will spank your botty and make your barrel boomerang shaped....
  3. I would say whatever condition the Fields are in, they are still 'goo' pellets.....
  4. I'm not surprised you have a 1000 aches, what with ten perms' and all.....
  5. Well, I can put 5 pellets within a 2p piece at 40 yards with a springer, but I cant remember the last time I took it out in the field, so at the moment my effective hunting range with a springer is....zero. With a sub Fac pcp, I can put 5 within a 2p piece, often tighter than that, at 60 yards, so I'm am happy to take a 60 yard head shot, as long as it's dead calm and I'm happy I've got a clean ranging bounce from my Nikon 440. I really can't understand those who seem to think these kind of ranges are nigh on impossible, let alone done often. I use good rifle (S400) that I have running within 5fps of each shot over 35 shots. I use a Hawke Sidewinder 30 3-12x50 scope that I have mapped out from 20 to 70 yards. And I practise and check my kit on a regular basis. All from a bipod to match my preferred hunting stance. I like to plot up on a warren, get comfy and wait for them, I'm too lazy to run round a field... I'm a pretty good shot yes, but nothing special. 1. Half decent shot 2. Rifle that puts the pellets out at a consistent fps( this is VITAL. At 50 plus yards, inconsistent fps absolutely WILL mess up your groups) 3.Half decent glass. 4. Good quality pellets ( I'm looking at you BOB R ) 5. A well mapped and practiced scope. 6. Good range estimation ( I would not attempt long range shots if I didn't have a good range finder, no way) Do I get the odd flyer that sends the occasional rabbit screaming down it's hole? Well, you figure that one out. My permissions demand results, and if I can bag 10-20 sitting off as far as possible, as opposed to bagging 5 by getting up so close I could beat them to death, then that's what I'll do. One runner out of ten I can deal with. Those of you with the luxury of swanning around your permissions and getting away with only a handful of rabbits and the farmer/landowner is happy with that, good for you. Some of us have to earn our shooting rights. Pah.

    pregent bunny's

Depending on how far developed the unborn are, fry them off in some garlic butter. Hmmmm, tender...

    increase in power

With a PCP you can increase the power as much as you want/can. It's not the power that decreases accuracy as a rule, it's the speed of the projectile that causes problems.....
  8. Oh it wasn't all bad.. They came in a neat little plastic box (different colours depending on what type of hunter killer mega death pellet you purchased) which were great for storing real pellets in.
  9. Yes they are. I guess JC is referring to those horrendous plastic skirted monstrosities....
  10. If it's new then absolutely. If not then creating a lead in is a good solution. A steady hand and constant size checking, it's pretty simple. Can help enormously with accuracy too..
  11. Get a dremel and put a little lead in. Edit- Just realised it's a new rifle. Take it back for replacement.
  12. I reckon this thread will not be here in an hour or so......
  13. If it's clipping, they'll not group at all. Signs of clipping in the silencer can be very subtle. It only takes the slightest contact....

    night vision

Pukka piece of kit.Works out to around 100 yrds in my experience (I have the 50) Really does light the eyes up
  15. Cheap glass. It will lose zero if you adjust the mag. Cheap glass. (and I'm sure there is some Chaps who have no problems adjusting mag and keeping zero on the cheap scopes, but as a rule cheap scopes are cheap for a reason.... Who buys a sports car and puts cheap remolds on its rims??......
  16. Why Fac air rather than .22lr? Well, as per the OP, he is worried about the shooting area!! Oops, 15ftlb off the rated energy of a red/blue tip. It was a rough quote from memory. No Dekers, there is no contest on long range rabbit shooting. You agree that the HMR is effective out to 200-250 yards, but you don't see it as a tool for these distances?? I did not say the pellets would not ricochet. I said that if they did, they would have far less energy in them afterwards. And thanks, the public right of way/shooting had been cleared up a few posts back...

    177 fac

Absolutely. .177 is a good calibre for sub 12ftlb. Fac is best suited to .22 or even better, .25. As Cat' says, the Diablo design pellet (AA Field, RWS Super' etc) fly best at up to 1000 odd fps. 900-950 fps is optimum for accuracy IMO.
  19. Unless one has a 'quirky' barrel, it's safe to say (IMO) that there are only a few pellet types you need to try. AA Fields, JSB Exacts, RWS Superdomes, Daystate. Plus a couple more I've no doubt forgotten. Why? Because they are all basically the same pellet! They all have a round nose and a good expandable skirt to engage the rifling and make a good seal. Start with these and one of them will suit your barrel. Don't need to go mad and buy 10 different pellet types. Stick to the 4 I've listed to start....
  20. Ah. I've never had any permission with public access... I stand corrected. Edit- PB with the HMR is 202 yards on two rabbits. I would feel comfortable and confident pushing that to 250.
  21. I agree, but when the text becomes so bad that it's difficult to read, then comment is worthy. And perhaps pointing out his mistakes will help him learn??
  22. Fac air will shoot effectively out to about 80 yards. It has less ftlb( in this country commonly up to 40 ftlb) than a rimfire and therefore more suitable to smaller shooting areas. A rimfire, say a .17 hmr is effective out to 200-250 yards( based purely on my own experience) and has a lot more ftlb energy( up to 230 ftlb) and is hence suited to larger areas. Fac air projectiles are much less likely to rich..roci...riococh... bounce off stuff and keep going with much oomph. Ergo, you want a Fac air rifle for your case, though I doubt the land would be cleared for shooting if it has a public footpath going through it. Not unless the Police were happy for you to close the path once a week.
  23. Sweet Mother of God. I can takes ne more.... It's I've, I, I'm, Rapid, when, have, could, with. And some ******* punctuation wouldn't go amiss either. You do know there's no character limit on an online forum post don't you? It's not like 1 ov dem texts innit. Lol, sorry, rant over.... No, don't go shooting birds in trees with a FAC air rifle unless you've got plenty of clear land behind.(Say about 800 yards or so)
