  1. Deadeye Ive Yes it is a S410 Xtra, the pellets were hitting the shroud which is the silencer. But like I said why did a brand new gun need a new barrel? Seems ok now but just haven't had the chance to get out with it or when I do have a poor time finding anything. Thanks for your offer of advice will take you up on it soon, have to go off the PC now, catch you again.
  2. Stealth Stalker I bought a brand new S410 FAC in August 05, tried with loads of pellet brands but could not get it to zero, the pellets were hitting the end of the silencer. I sent the gun back to AA in November 05 (could not do it earlier due to family problems) and had it back in December, with a new barrel. But I don.t understand why a new barrel was needed on a brand new gun. The gun was actually made in November 04 and when I found this out I checked with AA And they said they don't sell direct to retail but go through wholesaler (Rothery) so it was feasible that it had been sitting on a shelf, they had no record of previous ownership or repairs. They give me a test card of grouping which was a ragged hole but their range is only 25yds, and a 20 shot power print out 31.5 to 34.5 using AA 5.51 field. I zeroed it to 40yds with a 30mm target, and it still hits at 20 and 30 yds with no hold over or under. What's happening now though, if I go out with it everything is running and if I take the shotgun out everything is sitting, so at the moment I have not really tried it out, very frustrating.
  3. I have used loads of different zeroing set ups over the years, from full size photo-copied rabbits to commercially bought bullseyes types. But now all I use is A4 size paper with 30mm and 20mm black circles like the face of a dice (I put 5 on mine), once you have done the original get it photocopied (10p in my local shop), 2p per target. Set it up at your preffered range taped to some cardboard for stability. Job done.

    Help with XP

Can anyone with knowledge of computers help me with a recent problem: When my windows xp home edition is shutting down, it goes as far as the message "windows is shutting down" and stays at that stage. The only way I can then shut off the computer is to hold the power button on the tower for 5 seconds until it turns off. I have tried starting the computer in safe mode and then it shuts down ok. No new programs have been installed since this problem occured. Any ideas? Many thanks in advance.
  6. These have saved many a magpie and squirrel around my friend's farm, noisy *******, but never mind, they taste lovely - only three left
  7. Why does a Lanber proof read as KP/Cm rather than KG?
  8. I have a Lanber with the same choke as on the left of the picture (the shorter one). Bought the gun new in about 1985/86 - field model - external chokes are as follows :- 0= cyl 3=1/4 5=1/2 7=3/4 10=full Tip - if the safety comes back on after firing the first barrel, stopping you from firing the second barrel, it's probably the spring under the safety has snapped (common on Lanber's), some springs are "flat" some are "round wire", make sure you replace with the flat type.
  9. When the pigeons don't want to play when using one rotary (especially now on the rape), is it worth getting a second to add more movement, does two really make a difference?

    Safety Catch

Another thing to be aware off is closing the gun. I once borrowed the "farm gun" when mine was in for repair (only had one then), and on closing the gun it discharged straight through the hide. I tried to get it to happen again but could not, but once is too much.
  11. Anyone remember "The Gat", I had a pistol and a rifle, the rifle being a bit more powerful. When I was a lot lot younger about 12 or 13, me and my mate used to throw model aeroplanes (the balsa wood type consisting of a tail, wing and body slotted together) and shoot at them with a gat. Somehow oneday, I managed to hit it, and the pellet stuck in the wing, spirraling it down like a good one. Thought I was chocolate.
  12. About 2 years ago, had a maize field which had failed badly for the farmer (rain and wind), so when cut left a lot of cobs on the floor. Shot it regular from about Oct to Jan with excellent shooting - the only time I've ever run out of cartridges on one day. Had pigeons, crows, rooks, jackdaws everytime on it, wherever you have maize you have extra rats in the hedges.

    Hi everyone

Been looking at this forum for ages, and thought it's time to join. A little about myself - been shooting for 35 years, air rifle and shotgun and just got my FAC. Used to ferret and coarse fish and occasionaly still sea fish. I am not on the PC daily, but hope I can contribute to the forum.
