  1. Ye it's a bloody shame we can't make more land. Every acre for miles around me has people shooting on it of some type of other. I know people who charge £25 per person per roost shoot. They have 8 guns in 3 woods and other woods are covered by ppl who have permission on other land. Bags range from 5-30 per person. Normally it's averaging ten each of they can shoot. Judging by shots I think more are missed than shot. I wondered if someone had an accident then would the land owner/host be liable even if the gun had his own cover?
  2. Hi harnser, I have no plans to charge but I know people that do. I currently take four friends roost shooting/duck shooting/game shooting. And take others ferreting/Lamping etc. All free of charge. Just for a social. I want to know what is viewed as a rip off and how would it stand in a legal setting. What makes it contentious? Because they're pests? Or because no one owns them? Henry
  3. Hi folks. I'm wondering what the going rate of a pigeon roost shooting trip is nowadays. Say if there was an opportunity of roost shooting from 2pm onwards until dark, as much shooting as you have a chance at (pigeons, corvids), what would be a reasonable price? There is always the chance of a poor show in terms of numbers or lack of wind bringing birds in range etc but that is the nature of the sport. Is there a demand for this? Where do hosts stand in terms of insurance if all paying guests have their own insurance? Henry
  4. We have the same issue with our roe's. We use concrete weld mesh. Four sections per feeder. Cut so they push into the ground and interlock with each other. This way they're fairly easy to transport too as they lay flat in a pick up/ on a trailer.
  5. This is true. Please don't release any if you have any wild birds. Got to keep the wild ones going! We've successfully supported and nurtured them through habitat, feed and vermin control.
  6. Hi Richo, What are the dimensions? V interested and can collect. Thanks
  7. Thanks for the input guys. It's all much appreciated and shows what the forum is for. Re the sticks, all branches and twigs are out of the garden now. Will be on too of her of she finds stuff to chew! A friend also gave me some good advice after watching me with her the other day. He spectated from a distance whilst training her. I threw the dummy, *bang*, dog was steady sat there marking the fall. Then on command went to fetch and I was praising her whilst she was picking it up. He told me to shut up on the next one until she was back at my feet. Sure enough she retrieved it all the way to hand perfectly, and then gained the fuss. Hoping removing sticks and such will also go towards helping. I'll go back to tennis balls and work up again too I think to ensure everything is right before proceeding. Thanks for your help!
  8. Thanks for the replies. I've been backing away to try and get her to catch up with me a bit but only a few meters. Will try this method but going further away faster. Re the jaw, I wanted a bitch from her parents, and she was the only one. The others were dogs. She was also the most inquisitive and active and I wanted those traits. The timing had to be right too as with my job I had a certain period of down time to be able to spend time on the dog and the litter came just right. The retrieves were getting there before the intro of frozen game, yes. She would sometimes drop it prematurely in front of me at my feet but was 95% of the time it was perfect. Thanks
  9. Apologies for poor typing, I've written this on my phone.
  10. Hi everyone. I wondered if anyone could help me with my springer's retrieving. The training has been progressing steadily and surely over the past few months. The pup is now 9 months old. She has an undercut jaw but I knew this when I bought her after regularly seeing her parents in the field (neither parent has a jaw issue). I did a lot of research before getting her, and my book on hand is 'training spaniels' by Joe Irving. Training has been coming along well until a few weeks ago. The pup started to chew the dummy before bringing it back to me on the recall. I didn't over do the number of retrieves, normally 1 or 2 and sometimes 3. The first retrieve would often be perfect but I don't know if she now thinks I'm going to always be taking her trophy but she doesn't seem to want to bring it back as readily as before. She picks the dummy up perfectly and might get half way back then drop it and start chewing the top of the dummy where the string attaches. This all seemed to happen after introducing frozen game (pigeons, rabbit). As with the dummy some retrieves were perfect until she realised she could chew it. I've been giving a stern 'no' when I see her starting to chew but I'm afraid it'll put her off retrieving altogether. To try and rectify it I'm teaching her the hold command sat in front of me and have gone back to the dummy and using it in the house where there is no way for her to run off and chew! Do you have any ideas that could help us? I don't know if the undercut jaw is the issue? She likes to have something in her mouth constantly, such as sticks and blocks if wood. Whilst typing this I know she hasn't had any bones to chew for a few weeks now and maybe this is a contributing factor? She's is on a part barf diet supplemented with skinners dry food. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Henry

I'm looking at the night vision range and trying to find honest reviews. I'm interested in this. Any reason you've not used it more than once?
  12. That's a great offer mate. Which side of Lincoln are you?
  13. Would also be interested in location...
  14. I lost a mallard one night last year that dropped in thick vegetation. Went back next morning and picked it from next to a rat hole. It was stripped like yours is in the photo. The difference is mine still had most of its head, so maybe fox initiated it and rats did the opportunist thing. On ponds where the ducks are fed there are bound to be some rats even if poisoned, and they will swim for a meal or jostle it in to the water if feeding with other rats. Henry
  15. If this falls through I'd like second dibs please!
  16. Well you've out done me a bit there! They will def keep you busy. How many sheds do you have set up for that many?
  17. My hands are going to be full with this lot! Got 252 day olds and then few hundred poults from the same hatch in 7 weeks. So having harvest and them coming up will keep us busy. Went for blacknecks this year as they hold well and are intermediate flyers... I hope.
  18. Our peas have been a bit that way. Not building up at all at the moment. Suppose it kept the farmer happy!
  19. This is the info mate Think that's worked. On my phone having a break from driving in McDonalds.
  20. Hi folks, I have my stab proof/bullet proof vest for sale. It pains me to have to sell it as it was my best mate on Friday and Saturday nights... Always had my back...and front! It is in very good condition, always well cared for and kept out of the light to prolong its life. I've had it for three years since new, and I paid £850 for it. It has at least another 5 years left in it and probably a lot more than that. I have pictures but can't upload at present. It has no stains or scuffs. Not only will it give the obvious protection, it provides good defence from body shots and also the cold. It is a covert vest so goes under you shirt and is not easily noticeable until someone gives you a hug! If you're interested then get in touch. I have a wedding to attend this weekend but will look on here when I can and reply to anyone. PRICE: £495 This is a bargain if it saves your life one day. I didn't like to take the risk hence my investment in this kit. Henry
  21. Sorry for not being on for a couple of days. I've managed to clear them up now so will hopefully be beneficial for my partridges!!
