  1. Well, you'll notice the power hits a cliff and suddenly starts to drop off as the cylinder no longer has the pressure to churn out ful power shots. then you just top it up as normal to the recommended pressure watching the gauge on the bottle or pump. It's a bit of an inconvenience possibly, but you get used to it. My S10 doesn't have a gauge but it doesn't bother me really now. I top it up before a trip if I know it hasn't been topped up for a while.
  2. Aha just seen the website! that's exciting news. The old MFR doesn't have a gauge, however it looks like the brand new one does, although that's just by looking at the picture on here... http://www.theoben.us/mfr2.html
  3. oi! 'nough of that! electronics rule! seriously though, apparently Daystate reckon more mechanical ones are sent back than the electrical ones. Having said that though, if I was looking for an FAC, I'd be pretty torn between an Air Wolf and the Theoben MFR. The fact that Theos are so easy to work on yourself is a bit of a plus and there are always spares around, despite the company going under. That one certainly looks like on to follow up on
  4. Well, I have both a mk3 S10 and a Daystate Mk4is, both of which are sub 12 guns, the S10 is a .22 and the Mk4is is .177, both of which I'm looking to part with as I've just got me an Air Wolf and that's all the gun I really need. pm me if you want any more details!
  5. hey mate, Are you looking for the same again? What sort of power are you looking for?
  6. sounds like a good night's work. Sometimes it's not about the sporting nature of it; with a bunny problem like that it's cold hard numbers that you need! Would the farmer be happy with you if you left them there to carry on their damage?? nice to see the NS50 earning its keep! cjp
  7. WHat sort of price range have you got mate?

  9. Twistedsanity. Your sign in name is perfect for a lot of what's going on in this thread, ironically not your own contribution! I agree, some on here are making us look a wee bit silly now! I say now, it may have been several pages ago
  10. It was more in general than directed at you. I have no FAC/SGC, so rely on being able to accurately measure the FT/lb of both my guns! Getting done for having an over-powered air rifle when you have both FAC and SCG would be daft though! so not worth losing both tickets for the price of £50 for a chrono!
  11. and, what if you don't have a shotgun? then you're going to need to know what the ft/lb is! it's not a question of what type of license it's a question of knowing you're not breaking the law!
  12. I don't think it's a substitute for a proper chrono - it seems to be far too temperamental. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. The problem is that it's working on sound, not the actual projectile, so it is always going to be more susceptible to misreadings. Is it your only method of checking the power of your gun?
  13. I'd be tempted to have a crack at it on a simple stock, but right now I have a Daystate mk4is and that's not a straightforward stock. I'm looking to buy an air wolf, which judging by the vid isn't straightforward either! If I do it, my humble S10 might be the guinea pig...
  14. I wouldn't spray a gun. I'm not a fan of sprayed guns, To do it properly it's a lot of work and once it's done, it's a pain to remove, particularly if you're spraying the wood as well. Camoing up a gun can make it look brilliant, and does help with shy or easily spooked quarry, but by far and away the best way to do it is hydro-dipping. That was you can remove it easily and you're left with your gun untouched. As soon as you start spraying things it gets complicated returning the gun to its original condition. To get a good finish, I imagine you would have to prime first, so that's something else to come off! camoit.co.uk do a good system. You get a professional looking job then!
  15. According to Godwin's Law of online forum discussion, the probability of someone being compared to Hitler reaches 1. so, who is it in this thread??
  16. theoretically, yes. It does work, however under the rules of the general license, really they should only be shot as part of pest control. If they're eating the beans and peas on the veg patch, or eating so much feed on the bird tables that the intended birds aren't able to feed, or if they're taking food from poultry, destroying fruit tree crops then that's fine. Outside of this it gets a bit murky, as they're not considered a pest! Here's the truncated form of the law from the BASC website: 'All birds are protected, and although there are seasons when you can legally shoot game, and some wildfowl, they are not suitable quarry for air rifles. However, as long as you are complying with firearms law, you can shoot certain pest bird species. These are covered by general licences which, in simple terms, mean you can shoot the birds listed, provided you have the landowner’s permission and provided you are doing it for one of the reasons allowed by the licence. These reasons include: to prevent serious damage (e.g. to crops and livestock) or to prevent disease to protect conserve flora and fauna to protect public health or safety' http://www.basc.org.uk/en/shooting/airgunning/air-rifles.cfm
  17. as a guide, here's an accuracy test of the Daystate Wolverine .303. This is a 100ft/lb gun, but the groupings of 5 shots @ 80yds are starting to get a bit messy for hunting...
  18. If you want to get the bluing redone to protect the metalwork then this kit is great... http://www.ronniesunshines.com/shooting-equipment-1/gun-maintenance/birchwood-casey-complete-perma-blue-liquid-gun-blue-kit.html everything is included, like cloths and brushes, and it will stop it turning rusty and miserable again!
  19. Wot 'e said! There's nothing better really. There are some more fancy ones that give you the ability to fire of a string of shots without the need to reset, but they don't do the all important Ft/lb we all need to know to keep an airgun legal, which is why I've not bothered to upgrade. The CB625 does that and gives you FPS as well. I've not done it YET, but if you happen to shoot the thing by accident, getting parts and repairs is so easy. If you've got short arms (as I have) or a long barrel then it can be a bit of a pain reaching forward and resetting after each shot, but it's a small price to pay for knowing you're gun's legal! the homepage is http://www.chronoscopes.com/, but they pop up from time to time as second hand jobs.
  20. Go for the S510. I had one and they're superb. I've got a Daystate mk 4is in .177 for sale. it might be a bit beyond your price range? They are brilliant guns, and a step up from even the lovely S510, but if you think you need to treat yourself, it's there in Gunwatch!
  21. The last time Matty Thud, the original poster replied was first post Page 2. This is page 5. I think it's fair to assume he's got his answer - and more besides. We're in danger of seriously drifting off course here, so it's probably not worth carrying on. If people want to give themselves headaches over these debates let them, and they can supply their own aspirin too. this thread has probably gone way past producing any useful tips to the debate...
  22. I'm sorry, I hung in there as long as I could, but you've lost me there. I have no idea what most of that meant. except the bit about the sniper, which is just wrong. The longest confirmed kill by a sniper was a British chap called Corporal of Horse Craig Harrison and it stands at a smidge over 1.5 miles. (incidentally it took him 9 shots to hit the target, then on the 10th and 11th he made two clean kills, but that's by-the-by). That has been certified by the Guinness World Records, although there is a case for a couple of Aussie snipers, but neither of them know which one hit the target as they shot at the same time at 1.8 miles. As to the rest of your post, errrr...? Well I'll muddle through and try and respond! I think there was something about vermin and damage to the crops, or something? Yes, vermin damage is a nightmare for farmers, but we should all kill cleanly. wounded animals all over the place doesn't solve the numbers problem and give shooters a dreadful name. I would rather be a good ambassador for the sport than be able to brag about idiotic shots that shouldn't be taken. You tell a non shooting person that you can make a kill at 80+ yds with gun and then they find out that the rest of the airgunning world wouldn't shoot anywhere near that, you're going to look at best deceitful and at worst an appalling example of the sport.
  23. Absolutely! Silently praying no Antis have been reading this. (if you are reading this, we think he's irresponsible too!)
