  1. I've got one of the Primos power crow calls. Its too high pitched. I've spent hours playing with it but to no avail. It does however make a wicked fox call if you bite down hard on it. It will make a very loud rabbit squeal. They are great for fooling crows over the pond.
  2. I never wash my camo, never have. The more dirty and beat up the better. I've read somewhere that the chemicals in some deturgents can be seen by some animals, deer for instance. And that clothing can appear to glow when they look at it. I've no idea about how that works but I believe thats true. Most animals will smell you if you go shooting 'alpine fresh' Leeboy
  3. That may well be true where you are but here in south hants thats not going to be a problem. Leeboy
  4. I particularly like the poll as to who would win the fist fight over petrol money-- Rex Hunt is way out in the lead
  5. I think that is basically what I've just said. But I will add that felt recoil is totally subjective in as much as everyone feels it differently, its a personal thing. Semi autos can feel softer to some people but not others. The fit and the weight of the gun will affect the felt recoil more so than the operating system.
  6. I think that squirrels are proper tough little **** and can take a huge amount of damage sometimes and keep running. #6s sort them out though but in my experience more choke is better than less choke. The Americans seem to like shooting #4 or bigger for squirrel but I think thats completely unnecessary. As to the comment about a 12 bore blowing squirrels to bits, dont know where that idea came from. yes if they are 6 feet away it will make a mess, at normal shooting ranges of course it wont. A 12 bore will blow anything to bits if its at the end of the barrel ! Dont waste your time chasing them with a .410 unless the shots are close and in little cover. It will just lead to frustration. As strange as it may seem, I'd take the air rifle over a .410 for squirrels, it will put more in the bag.
  7. I never had a problem with junk email until 2 months ago and then suddenly it started. Now I get between 10 and 30ish junk emails everyday. I solved it by using a program called 'spamfighter' it did cost 20 quid but worth every penny. I think there may well be some free email filters but I dont know how good they are. Spamfighter is excellent and I'm very pleased with it so far. Leeboy
  8. rubbish! recoil is far less on a gas auto the auther is missinformed No it is not !! Fire guns of exactly the same weight, exactly the same fit and shooting exactly the same cartridge and load and you will not notice any significant reduction in felt recoil between them. Different operating systems may make recoil feel different in the way it is delivered to the shoulder i.e the chunk of a break barrel as opposed to the ker chunk of a semi auto (if that makes sense, dont know how to word it better) Yes if you compare the recoil from a 6.5lb sxs to an 8lb gas op auto there will be an obvious difference but that is not down to the operating system.
  9. Go on spoil my facade. facade ? what facade
  10. I agree but to learn the mount and muscle memory the beads are a good starting point. I have just looked on the Miroku web site and the trap gun stock and rib are totally different to the sporting so I am pretty confident in my case the figure "8" is correct but if any one has any useful links to the contary or more information, please post. Cheers guys. I see where you are coming from and that you need to establish a starting base so to speak. I think everybody looks at the rib when they start out. I think thats quite natural. It took me a while to ignore the rib. Clays will soon sort that out as you will find that there just isnt time to look at the rib as the bird is gone once you have everything lined up. Once you start hitting the birds you will soon lose focus on the rib. I've never shot trap but I know that the stock dimensions etc will not be the same as a sporter because trap guns are set up to shoot high so that the bird is not covered. Leeboy
  11. It is true that the beads should look like a figure of 8, I've heard that a lot of times. My arguement is that you shouldn't be looking at the beads full stop ! The author also says that semi autos are not gracefull or do not balance very well, he has very obviously never shot a decent top end semi auto. He also says that a gas operated semi has less felt recoil than any other design. Also complete rubbish ! If you shoot an o/u, sxs, gas auto, long or short recoil op gun and an inertia op gun, if the guns are the same weight, shooting the same cartridge you will notice no difference in felt recoil what so ever. The average gas gun is quite heavy which soaks up some recoil. What he says about gun fit and felt recoil is absolutely true. The better the fit the less felt recoil, regardless of the guns operation. Leeboy
  12. Agreed ! I really like the idea of the downward ejection, it would make life much easier when it comes to picking up spent shells. I didn't know there was a new browning with bottom ejection, I'll have a look at that. I know that the Remington 105 CTI has had a lot of problems that I dont think have been totally sorted yet and it is apparently very cartridge fussy. Its a shame as it is a nice looking gun and feels good in the shoulder. Leeboy
  13. So what is not sporting about a semi auto ? Very few people own fac autos. And just because the gun may carry more than 2 shots it doesn't mean that a shooter will fire more than 2 at each bird. So what if he does ! To say that driven game shooting is not about killing birds is just utter nonsense ! if that were the case why would people pay so much money to do it. If it wasn't about killing birds all the tweed wearing posh gun toting shooters would just turn up at the clay range. Driven game shooting is just that, shooting game and hopefully killing it. If its the people and the companionship and all that then there are plenty of other hobbies where you can have all that. You dont need to be killing stuff. Should be concentrating on the birds anyway not what everyone else is doing. And having more than 2 shots dont necessarily mean more birds in the bag. For me if i've missed with the first 2 then firing a third dont usually put the bird in the bag. The only advantage is that with the semi auto is that when you've done your 2 shots you miss out on the birds that come by when you are reloading (unless you have 2 guns and a loader, which in effect is no more sporting than having a gun with more than 2 shots) And regardless of what your reason to be in the shooting line is, it shouldn't matter a toss what gun you are shooting. 14. Half of them arn't, and they are all used as cannon fodder !
  15. The gun has been around for at least a couple of years. I saw a review of it in one of the mags and as I remember he rated it quite highly. I have however never seen one and I have heard there were some technical issues. As well as the price issue ! Leeboy
  16. I have the same problem with my Beretta Silver Pigeon 3. There is **** at the end of the chambers that I cant shift with any amount of bronze brushing and bore cleaner. The rest of the barrels come up like mirrors.
  17. Why ? a shot gun is a shot gun regardless of the design. Its the shot that kills and the gun is just the means of getting in the right place.
  18. I think its a shame that autos are still seen as unsporting by a lot of people, I think that is absolute rubbish. I bought mine at the CLA game fair last year and since then my silver pigeon 3 has only been out of the safe twice. I find it a much much nicer gun to shoot and I can shoot it far better than any other gun I've shot. Safety is all down to the bloke behind the trigger. If the shooter is safe, and seen to be observing good gun safety practise then what the hell does it matter if someone else cant tell if the gun is loaded or not. Tradition is fine, and to those people who like all that, thats fine too but we are in the 21 century now and we should be able to shoot what ever we see fit. If people want to go shooting dressed up in tweeds etc then that is their choice but they should not be frowning on people for not wanting to dress like edwardian gentry or shooting the type of gun they prefer or shoot better. Dont get me wrong, I dont have a problem with tweeds etc, they can look really smart. The price of decent tweeds is however ridiculously high and game shooting is already beyond the means of the average guy. I think in the main, driven game shooting is still seen by many as a sport of the posh and monied. If tradition is the excuse then all game shooters should still be shooting hammer guns and black powder carts ! I'm afraid its all down to snobbery. I mean what difference does it really make what design of gun you shoot as long as you are safe and killing the birds efficiently ?? NONE ! Does anyone think that the pheasant knows the difference, or cares for that matter. The semi auto is a very popular gun throughout the rest of the world with no stigma attached. I cant see why we shouldn't be able to shoot whatever sort of gun we want regardless of weather it be at clays (where they seem quite acceptable) or game or vermin. When shooting from a hide I would take an auto over anything else any day of the week. Leeboy
  19. I have had owls fly almost into my face while squeaking foxes. Also I have had starlings and collared doves taken by a sparrow hawk less than 10 feet away from me.
  20. While were doing french jokes : whats the difference between frenchmen and a slice of bread ? You can make soldiers from a slice of bread !! Leeboy
  21. if its an o/u you are after I can highly recommend the Silver Pigeon 3. Excellent gun that will last a lifetime and hold it value very well. If you are considering a semi auto then look no further than the Benelli range. Superb guns, easily maintained. No gas ports so cleaning is a doddle, virtually nothing to go wrong. Beretta semis are also excellent. See if you can try a few guns even if its just to check fit in the shop before you make your mind up. Leeboy
