  1. Foxes, squirrel drey blasting, Geese where you can use lead and long range hares maybe. Those 42gm jobs are a bit heavy on the shoulder to be shooting many in a session and are well over the top for roost shooting. You would be better off going for a 30 or 32gm #6. That is ample for most uk rough/roost shooting and wont do your shoulder in. Cheaper also. leeboy
  2. I went out to buy some shells today, I generally shoot Clear pigeon which I find to be excellent, quite cheap and hard hitting and I have confidence in them. But the gunshop didn't stock them or my second fave Hull special pigeon. I ended up buying 250 Kent Velocity #6 30gm. I've never heard of these but the geezer in the shop said that these were basically the same cartridge as the clear pigeon. They were cheap, only £30. for 250. I'm thinking perhaps I should of spent some more money. Hopefully they will be fine, but I haven't had a chance to try them yet. Anyone used these before ? are they any good or do you get what you pay for ? Leeboy
  3. I've got a couple of boxes of those in #1 shot. I use those and hull 50gm BBs for foxes. I think they are very good. I did however buy 250 of the supreme game #6 and thought they were very poor for the price. Considering they are supposed to be among the best. I found that they ejected poorly, sometimes not at all in my o/u and all though I didn't pattern them I found they didn't come close to being as good as gamebore clear pigeon or hull special pigeon which are my faves. 4. I use a silver pigeon 3 and a Benelli Montefeltro auto. I dont particularly like getting my guns wet through but they are there to be shot. I tend not to go out if the weather is dire but if it gets bad while I'm out I'll stay out. The Benelli has become my general all round gun for no other reason than I shoot it better than the Beretta. Leeboy
  5. Thanks for the response fellas and the excellent offer. My friend bought a new CZ American yesterday afternoon. It looks to be a very nice gun, very light. The bolt is pretty stiff though. Will this loosen with a bit of use ? Tried it with some Eley subsonics and was amazed how quiet it was. What ammo do you guys shoot ? is it even worth trying standard .22lr as opposed to the sub sonics, is there much of an advantage ? Leeboy
  6. My shooting partner has just had his FAC granted yesterday. He has been granted .22 rimfire and .243 for foxes and deer. Money is an issue and so the rimmy will be bought first. Any suggestions as to a good reliable bolt action .22 that wont break the bank. I've heard that the BRNO guns are supposed to be very good, but I'm not very clued up on this subject. Leeboy
  7. Thanks for the response fellas. I think the best thing to do is get off my **** and actually pattern them through both of my guns and both sets of chokes. Probably should of done before I posted but I was hoping that the replies would all lean one way and save me the bother. Guess thats shooting ! paul223, great link mate very interesting. Leeboy
  8. Those flys give me the creeps ! Over the last few weeks all the crows and pigeons seem infested with them but the birds appear healthy. I hate them they get on you and they are ******* to get off, they make my skin crawl. Leeboy
  9. Any of you guys use SGs for foxes ? if so how do you get on with them. They dont pattern well in my Beretta but the yanks swear by them out to 50/60yards for foxes and coyotes. What choke works for you and what is the tightest pattern that can be expected at say 30 yards ? I like to keep a box in case have to destroy a cow. I also have some problem deer that cant be shot with a rifle but I can often get within 15/20 yards and so I have to sort them with the 12 bore but as of yet I have not tried them as cant seem to get a safe shot and wont shoot until I can. I would be interested to know what they are like on fox. I usually use BBs. I haven't tried them in my Benelli yet but I dont suppose they will perform much better. One bloke on an american forum claims he shoots foxes to 50/60 yards routinely. I cant see how. Leeboy
  10. I've been using a spyderco native for the last 6 years with a part serrated blade. I use it daily at work on the farm and for skinning rabbits etc. It did cost a few quid (about £75) but to my mind it is worth every penny. Comes razor sharp out of the box and keeps its edge well. The serrations are also easy to sharpen and there isnt much it wont cut through easily. very easy one handed opening. leeboy
  11. I shoot crows on an outdoor pig unit where there is a vast flock of crows rooks and jackdaws all flying and feeding together. We've been shooting them all year and have had about 150 down in the last few sessions but there is no noticeable decline in numbers. The flock is still 400+ strong. Leeboy
  12. Henry, if you are using ccleaner make sure you uncheck the option 'autocomplete form history' under internet explorer. You can leave cookies checked but before you run the cleaner go into options- cookies and move the cookies you want to keep into the 'cookies to keep' bit. once you have done this it will not delete the pigeon watch or any other cookies you want to save. Also I would recommend you use Firefox or similar and not internet explorer as IE is a big security weakness. Hope that sorts it Leeboy

    Most rats

Me and a friend shot close to a hundred in 4 sessions in and around a big grain dryer. It was incredible sport and often emptied 10 round mags in almost as many seconds. Rats seem to get very bold when theres loads of them. leeboy
  14. Hi Speedy. I've been doing a lot of crow shooting over the last few weeks. Decoys can work well especially if your in an area that the crows already frequent. No need for any sort of pattern as such, just spread them out all facing different directions and have at least one as a sentry on a fence post or in a tree but dont set up so its looking in the direction that you are hiding. Some sort of bait helps, a split rabbit or dead lamb ( if your laws alow). I haven't had a great deal of success with calls but I'm working on it. I've found that a distress type of sound seems to bring them in. The yanks call them all the time using rally and fighting calls. Getting a sound like an Aussie crow might not be easy with a typical crow call. Add shot birds to your decoys. Even throwing a dead bird out of a hide so others can see it will often bring them in. Best of luck Leeboy
  15. I personally dont get on with plug type ear defenders, they make my ears sore very quickly. I also had my right ear torn off in a car crash in 1984 and although it looks relatively normal I have trouble inserting plugs in that side. I also hate not being able to hear anything when hunting. I bought a pair of Peltor Tac 6s (electronic muffs) a couple of weeks ago and I think they are really good. I would certainly reccomend them. I shoot pigeons and crows a couple of times a week and you can hear the crows coming when they are a couple of hundred yards away. You can buy them new on ebay for £38. Batteries are supposed to be good for 200 hours use. Leeboy
  16. I found that site a while ago and theres some interesting stuff. Somewhere on there is a video of a squirrel shot through the heart with a blowgun !! Probably a silly question, but would that be legal over here ?
  17. Its not the gun its 'the shooter' have you got the air bottle back yet ?
  18. banging your gun barrels on anything is definately iffy, they are surprisingly soft. you could put a small dent in them and not notice which could cause excessive pressure and maybe blow. Leeboy

    Pellets

Whatever works best in your barrell. This is true, however I believe there are some pellets (not sure which) can produce muzzle energy above the legal limit in some guns. You will be ok with the popular brands Leeboy
  20. [quote name='youngshot' date='Oct 3 2006, 12:02 PM When i was out shooting with one of my school friends he pricked a particularly angry crow that wouldnt let me come close enought to pick it up. Not being able to find a stick close to hand... i took the shotgun apart and whacked it on the head with the barrels!! They needed a wipe down to get the blood of after mind you!! Young Shot You wont catch me doing that with my gun ! Id like to be able to shoot it for a few years !! leeboy
  21. Do they feed on carrots and beetroot ? Jonno I think they will have a go at most green stuff unless theres something better down the road leeboy
  22. Without a doubt the easiest way to do it. very quick very easy only a fraction of the effort involved. I've seen a lot of rabbits having thier necks pulled a coupla times before a satisfactory job is done. Even my mrs can chin a rabbit. Crows I just grab around the body and smack the head against my boot. The 'grab them by the head and spin them' method dont work so well on them, strong necks. Leeboy
  23. Personally I dont think you will ever beat olive drab or khaki onced its been washed a few times and faded a bit. I did recently buy some gear in Max4 to try and I'm quite impressed, it really breaks your outline which I think is often more important than blending exactly with your surroundings. I think from experience that keeping your face covered and keeping still is probably more vital than being totally camod. While I'm not yet completely convinced that camo is best, it certainly cant do any harm. Leeboy
