Roughing it into shape, very pale outers , said like oak grain , but really white ...other pic just wiped everything down with white spirit
-
Glued up the wood yesterday, centre is a cheap hardwood scrap , the outers not sure , it's like oak , very heavy & dense, but also very pale/white , couple of hours this afternoon, ok , couple of flaws , but hopefully not to bad ....
-
Just washed them , just found , one off the front , a small nail in the tread , poked through, never went down, left it in...
-
If you want to arrange a courier , upto you , they are off my landcruiser, replaced with cooper mud tyres, just taking up to much room in the garage ...
-
Meant to be decorating, carnt get motivated, so decided to have a stick tidy up , was stuck behind tv , now racked in the hall , so been gluing up some more wood , prepared some other blanks today , so next , going to try a trout , another phesant head & a laminate one . Bent some buffalo so ok there , just got to start on some rams horn in a couple of weeks.....
-
Bit on the big side to be honest , rather someone would collect them..

-
Cool ! Dont mind asking what type of paints do you use ?
-
Your getting a nice little collection there ! You will have to make a rack now to show them off ! Funnily enough still got my dads wagbi badges & muzzle loading ones ! As said , I find an angled joint easier than a square butt , said previously chalk is your best friend unto show high spots , to achieve a good joint ! Think next you should have a go at a buffalo market stick ! Be nice project for you.....
-
just about done for now.....
-
The pyro pen , arrived , straight in , no idea ! Deffo need a coat of looking at !
-
If so , dont forget to drill hole first for the pin , before you cut your angled joint.....😉
-
It's not bad , tall Walker, on a hazel twister , see how it develops, hopefully going to work on the feathers once the pyro pen arrives, something else to try !
-
Shanked, on a twister , put a bit of colour on cheeks , ordered a pyro set , so will have a play when it arrives
-
Like the top , what's the shank ? Like the joint , if you have a decent vice , two short lengths of wood about 2 ft by inch , inside of vice with a spacer at the bottom , you can straighten the shank , using a pinch method & hot air gun , be worth it ! Look really professional! Dont be tempted to check for straightness till totally cold! O

How do know where we live ? Goes hand in hand ! Shank it next week now , see how it goes, not sure I'd take carving up as a career though....
-
Couple of spare hours this afternoon, tried a phesant head in hardwood , first one ever ! Only had limited tools , lot to improve on , hats off to the guys that carve , got to put a shank on next , the second pic is a light coat of varnish & turns hopefully seals it up....
-
Latest project , had ago at another laminate one , used purple heart for the center , walnut outsides on a stripped chestnut shank , leaving it outside for awhile, apparently the u.v light makes it go more purple....
-
Have you had the scope since new ?
-
Top was just scrap bits of wood , centre is ply , walnut sides , turned out quite nice actually...
-
For old boggy , had a few coats of danish , cut it back a couple of times , looks ok...
-
Started to coat the elm burl with danish oil , will continue over next couple of days, meanwhile had an idea of lamenting! So outsiders walnut , middle wanted purple heart , but couldn't find it so , to test it's got a thin ply center , glued & clamped overnight, settled it up on a stripped chestnut shank , finish sanding tomorrow, looks a bit different....
