  3. The Red Kite is an impressive bird of prey which thankfully nowadays is a familiar sight to many people living in some areas of the United Kingdom (NOT ME). It is a diurnal raptor and a member of a family of birds called ‘Accipitridae’ which includes the kites, old World vultures, harriers, hawks, eagles, buzzards etc; Both sexes of the Red Kite are similarly coloured but as in many birds of prey the female is slightly larger than the male but this is difficult to discern in the field. The present day name for the kite is derived from the Anglo-Saxon ‘cyta’. In Britain it was known in the past by a number of local names the most widespread being “Glead” or “Gleade” and “Puttock” a name which Shakespeare knew it by. In Wales it is known as “Boda Wennol” (Swallow Buzzard) or “Barcud Coch” (red kite) or even “Boda Chwiw” (whistling kite) which is a reference to its distinctive call. It was once a common sight in the towns and cities of medieval Britain; but then during the 18th and 19th centuries there followed a period of relentless persecution at the hands of man almost to the point of extinction of the species in the British Isles. The Kite fell out of favour due to its predation on young domestic fowl and game birds. The development in the manufacture of firearms made the task of extermination easier for the hunters. Its lack of fear of man made it an easy target.
  4. Exactly and i agree everyone is intitled to there own opinion, but the fact of the matter is that there is no way of controlling there numbers and they will just keep saying they "WERE" an endangered species and release more every year so that's the point i am getting at when will they stop? the only way to control numbers is to stop releasing them and i cant see that happening ever ?? + you dont see many now but just wait for a few years and the place will be over run, mark my words!
  5. RUBBISH !! Why do you think they were near extinction  ,because THEY KILL GAME BIRDS !!!!
  6. Pheasant poults !! Just like buzzards will take poults all day long mostly carrion my *** !! What i will say is that too much of any predator is not good !
  7. McNab,I used to get a splitting sore headache when i used clearpigeon but with nothing else? ,dont know much about powder ect but it could be getting at something ?
  8. And just like other predators they will soon become a pest in the countryside
  9. The phrase "ANYTHING CONSTRUCTIVE COMES TO MIND" , So do you have anything to say relevant to the post ?
  10. Some say that if you inhale the fumes from a cartridge, that is what contributes to a sore head? just something i have heard over the years what do you think ?
  11. Totally unamused about tonight's countryfile program about the reintroduction of RED KITES TO THE UK! This is really unacceptable and should not be allowed ,the red kite population is on the increase year in year out, and for there project to be allowed to release more and more EVERY YEAR is just not right ?, where do they stop!, not only are the buzzard numbers (admittedly as stated in the program) overwhelming, the red kites are taking over as well, the people in question are not being realistic in raptor preservation they are releasing a top of the food chain predator into the wild and it should most certainly not be allowed at this scale i would understand if this avian predator was under threat as it was may years ago but not now? ,remember when you used to drive along the motorway and all you seen were buzzards well now look what you have RED KITES AND BUZZARDS THIS IS IRRESPONSIBLE
  12. It is a problem having to muck around with photos and every other forum or networking site has a built in resizing program in place that means you don't need to do anything it does it for you, is there not something that can be installed to the site to make it more user friendly  ^_^
  13. Thats pigeon shooting but remember the less time out the hide the better so take the dog so he can retrieve the bird very quick and you can do what you need to to back in the hide = less flafing about :good:whatever way you choose to kill the bird make it quick a simple neck swing will do the job just hold the head of the bird and 360 swing and its over in seconds ,although don't do this on a walked up day on the pheasant shoot as it is not very etiquette SO TAKE A PRIEST
  14. All depends on the land you are on ,what crop they plant ect if wheat and barley fields are present then the birds will take to feeding out on them and you will find it difficult to keep your birds where you want them of course by all means put additives in your wheat to pull them in but the reason i say this is because the feeders in October dont seem to get much interest due to the fact there are plenty food on the field for them so that is one month you will use less feed that is i presume you have stubble parks on your shoot ? going back to amount i would say around 2 tone per 300 birds ,so around 7 and a half tone ! also to keep deer away there great are guards you can buy or just fence them off easy deer problem solved
  15. 39tds there not that esthetically pleasing on a driven day  nothing can beet the pro hunters
