  1. Yes I do have permission to shoot the land from my friend who rents the small holding and one of the co-owners ok'd it with us but they both live next door and didnt want to make to much noise due to not speaking with the other owner yet, but we have now spoke to him and hes fine with it so wont hesitate to fire both barrels next time. I dont think it was a problem to club it with a big stick it was near the fox anyway and I dont think the fox was bothered about being "humane" when it was ripping the chickens and ducks apart and leaving ducks still alive with its chest hanging off. Before I get aload of hassle it was a humane way of dealing with the fox it, and I do believe every live quarry deserves a humane end so as I said it will get both barrels from now on and .410 for dispatch just incase it survives both barrels of 50 grm BB.
  2. Dont really mind what people think the the block of wood its a dead fox thats not going to kill any more chickens, I would prefer it to drop dead clean from one shot but didnt and to avoid having to use wood again will be taking .410 in future if it was a rabbit I would have necked it but im not getting bit by a fox trying to break its neck.
  3. It wont be as much of an issue next time as we have now spoke to the neighbours to see if it disturbed them and they said they barely heard the shot and not to worry about it and to do what has to be done so wont be as worried about the noise next time.
  4. The recoil was not too bad really more than the normal pigeon load im used to but fairly tame, as for the lump of wood issue it was late houses near by and i thought one bang would be enough so dispatched it with a bit of wood did the job, as I said I will be taking suppressed .410 out next time for dispatching, live and learn. but its one fox less although while me and my mate was taking this pic we lamped around and saw another too far for a shot though and then 10 mins later in another field saw another one but again too far.
  5. got the fully moderated baikal .410 using eley 3" magnum subsonic cartridges great gun use mine all the time, more of a ping than a crack but does echo back off trees, but hardly noticable for anyone more than 80yrds away
  6. It was about 11.30 at night and there are houses fairly close so didnt want to go mad with the bangs. Will be taking hushpower .410 next time incase I need to dispatch any more.
  7. My first fox shot at about 30yrds with a beretta 686E loaded with a 50grm BB load, not the clean kill I was hoping for but it knocked it down and was finnished off with a knock on the head with a hefty lump of wood,
  8. Thanks for the reply will leave the chokes as they are then I dont want to over choke it
  9. I have some 12 bore cartridges 3 inch magnum 50grm BBs for fox's never used them before but will be taking them out tonight to try and get a troublesome fox on a small holding, ive got a Beretta 686 E with open cylinder and improved cylinder in at the moment, What chokes would be best for the job out to about 30yrds I dont want people to say use a rifle because I dont have one so can only use what I have. Thanks Liam.
  10. tried necking them and can never seem to get it right either not enough force or too much and head comes off and im not keen on pulling the heads off, will try using there body weight to do it next time, but I normally just put there head on a hard surface (rock, log, ect) and stand on it, dead instantly although not the most dignified way to go does the trick but have been fortunate to only have to do this to a few.
  11. Id also suggest .410 hushpower good bit of kit for rabbits and not very loud at all use mine for lamping all the time along side my mate with a non fac air rifle if its still its his if it moves its mine
  12. I must have sent 2 in error getting mixed up with firearms they granted it anyway.
  13. Can anyone throw some light on this for me, when I applied for my shotgun certificate about 6 yrs ago, Im sure I used 2 counter signatures, and I used just one for renewal, has it always been one for applying and I sent 2 by error or have things changed ? Thanks.
  14. I know the CA vs BASC has been causing abit of debate, but the CA is offering half price membership for first year and as Im under 25 I got membership for £9 ! which is a bargain ive spent more on a box of cartridges, This seems too good to be true at that price to be full membership with insurance but as far as I can see from their website it is full with insurance am I wrong ? I just want to make sure Im properly insured. Thanks.
  15. Sterling you've restored my faith I will stick at it and try and learn the patterns abit better, thanks
  16. my local butcher offers £1 a rabbit but has the be gutted on the night of shooting and liver and kidneys must be left in and it cant be shot with shotguns, to much trouble for a few rabbits in my opinion.
  17. The cartridges I have been using are Lyalvale No 6. 2 and 2-1/2 cartridges have also had ago with some old winchester No7-1/2. 2-1/2 inchs had a magpie out a tree clean kill with the winchesters but was only 15yrds max, I have done a little pattern testing at 10 and 30 yrds, at 10 yards the pattern was aroung 8-10 inchs and at 30 was around 2 feet with the odd pellet out the pattern, will be getting some 3inch cartridges to give me a little more chance but will keep the range to about 25yrds goin to have ago at decoying a few pigeons with it saturday so will let you know how I get on
  18. To be fair the 40yrd shot went down clean, it was dead before it hit the floor, but Im missing the closer shots now maybe I am expecting too much from the gun, will be taking 12 bore out for pigeons soon now crops are being cut, il take it with me for some practice. thanks for the replies.
  19. I was it was only about 15ft off the ground and flying away from me so it made it abit easier but, I cant hit anything else I had a few feathers off a high ish one but it didnt drop, Im even missing the closer birds now cant understand it, getting frustrated with myself and the gun.
  20. Hi all, Ive been having a pop at some pigeons with my suppressed .410 using No 6, 2 and 2 1/2 inch shells, got a low pigeon at about 40 yrds with a 2 inch shell I must have been very lucky with that shot. but I cant seem to get any more, I know Im going to get replies saying use a 12G but I like the 410 because its quiet, Has anyone got any tips for shooting pigeons it flight with a .410 the choke in the gun is fixed and I think is improved choke Thanks
  21. I will be trying a few different cartridges for it when ive used most of what I have, the shop I got the gun from had limited choice but I will be making a trip to another local shop which is much larger and will no doubt have more choice, although its queit enough as it is I would like a little more range than the 2 inchs.
  22. Thanks for the replies, It was a good way away when I shot it looked about 40 yrds but im guessing it was more like 30 as 40 is pushing it for a 2inch shell, I got a good deal on the gun I paid £410 for gun, 200 cartridges, a new gun slip and a .410 cleaning kit, so im not too worried about the cost of cartridges just yet but there coming in at about £61 for 250 so not too much more than what I pay for 12G
  23. Hi all first post with a pic Shot this woody in flight with a 2inch number 6 cartridge with my Baikal single barrel .410 hushpower only had it a few days and Im loving it.
