  1. From now on mate always going to carry more in the motor I usually have them in the motor but today just thought it would be just a quiet day with not seeing big numbers how wrong was I. There's always tomorrow.
  2. Hi All, got to the stubble field this morning around half 10 started shooting just after 11 come half 4 packed up ran out of cartridges what a mistake not taking any spare in the motor because you just never know on the day whats going to happen, anyway ended up with 6 crows 9 ferals and 87 woodies was easy on for 100+ today but never mind was well happy what was shot, has anybody else ran out of cartridges?
  3. Thanks it just went dead when it poured down but at soon as it dried up they started again.
  4. Just outside the penrith area mate, alot of farmers are combining now but good few birds about plenty of fields for them to choose from.
  5. We were out today and found aload of remington in the cupboard and decided to use them up I was hitting some good birds with them and believe it or not they were comp cartridges which I was given years ago all in shot size (9) quite surprised myself it doesn't matter what you use if your on them you'll knock them down.
  6. Myself and a good friend decided to give one our fields we have a go today after seeing some good numbers on it yesterday, we were set up around 9am and more or less started seeing pigeons straight away then the rain started and did it rain but luckily just heavy downpours, and everytime the downpours stopped the pigeons were everywhere and decoyed perfect. We ended up with 10 crows and 69 pigeons, we were off the field at half 2 due to other commitments, cracking day had even in the rain.
  7. Thanks for that Tomaddy your right about lads shooting at geese so high on ladyhall when we used to shoot on the next farm years ago there were folk with big fowling guns on there letting rip at geese what we wouldn't even think about basically screwing it up for a lot of people, I'll tell him you can go on ladyhall still or up to brow well, Thanks again.
  8. Is the farm at ladyhall still operating on day passes we used to shoot on priestside and brow well many years ago, I had a guy ask me a few days ago if you could still shoot on ladyhall farm but i'm not sure if you still can, could you shed any light on this please?
  9. Well done mate on getting your first pink of the season, I let the dogs out late last night and sure enough heard my first of the year right over the house heading south, not sure how many but it sounded like a good few.
  10. If I get chance to shoot geese I will travel along way sometimes, I might be going 10 mins down the road other times a 45 min drive to the nearest foreshore and end of this month 3 of us driving up to Aberdeenshire to flight pinks under the moon weather permitting just for 2 flights then back up mid october to decoy inland, for me geese are something special hence why I would travel alot to get under them.
  11. Alarm went off at 4am got to the stubble field around half 5 after meeting a couple of the lads got set up half a dozen full bodied decoys and around 20 odd fuds first skein arrived well before first light knocked 4 out then bit of a gap then they started coming in, there was no wind at all but they came in perfect we were finished and off the field by 8am with 16 canada's, and 1 grey, cracking first outing.
  12. 4x4 loaded up, decoys ready, dog already sitting at my side wondering when its time to go, up at 4am and hitting a stubble field and try to connect with a few greys, then flighting geese in evening on a large lake, good luck everyone and hope you have a good flight.
  13. The season is only 1 day away, and why cull them when they can legally shoot them on sat! there is quite a few guides operating up there now so I'm told so can't see the point of a cull!
  14. Well if thats true its good to hear stirky, one of the things we do is log on to rspb's loch of strathbeg near fraserburgh and they usually post when they start to arrive saying numbers coming in and a rough approx whats roosting on the loch it can get up to 60,000+ at peak times before alot of them start heading south.
  15. It'll be mostly greys up there with you aister is it? or do some pinks gather there when there here?
  16. Pinks everytime! they get my heart racing every time I hear them there's just something magical about them.
  17. They can't be far away it will prob depend on the winds that will bring them in, one of my good friends was shooting pinks over decoys in aberdeenshire last year in mid september off strathbeg, can't wait to start seeing an hearing them again an hopefully get a few, not long now until it all starts again so hope every one has good season.
  18. Just wondering if any of you guys have seen any pink feet about this year already?
  19. The shooting ground itself is situated on hard ground it used to be two old quarries many years ago which has now been landscaped and grown over many of the footpaths are hard stone even after all the bloody rain we have had this summer its still good going on foot we don't see many guys in wellies just boots even trainers on dry days, its know where near as muddy as some of the grounds we've been to.As for access you can drive a car up the track no problem and there's plenty of car parking,we are situated on high ground and on windy days the targets get really interesting. We charge £15 first entry for 50 birds then £12 if you go round again. Hope this helps Blaser.
  20. Don't have a website yet but we are looking in to it.
  21. I know your friend scully he has been a few times and he is one to watch because he can shoot very well.
  22. We are only on sundays at the minute but we are thinking of opening in the evenings next year for practice nights,we have full planning permission granted so if we get even more popular we would put more days on.
  23. Sorry my fault the ground is signposted from the village of Greystoke on shoot days which is 5 miles west of the town of penrith in Cumbria.
  24. Hi eveyone, Anyone interested in coming along to our next shoot on sunday 2nd september? we usually have a 50 bird open sporting competition every other sunday which there is cash awarded to the high gun of the day and a prize given to the high lady gun of the day. The ground itself is set on the far edge of a beautiful estate with stunning views of the western fells and the eastern pennines, we do not allow plastic wads on the ground but you will see why if you ever see the ground, it is not an easy ground to shoot but all the targets are fair and all very much shootable, the targets are changed every time we shoot so your not shooting the same targets over and over again. On each shoot the entries are from 10-30am until 3-00pm, there is a clubhouse which is warm and friendly there is refreshments, cartridges available on the day. It would be good to see some new faces there as our goal is to provide some where for clay shooters in the northwest to come along an have a good day, we have regular guys who are coming down from southern scotland, northeast england and some further afield so we must be doing something right but to be honset not many people know we have regular shoots up here! we do not have registered shoots (yet) but you can re enter our competitions as many times as you like just to get practice in if you need it. Feel free to ask if there is anything else you want to know. Regards cts.
  25. All the winchester cartridges we used were copper plated lead wildfowler.250 best cartridges ever made for the geese in my opinion.
