Partridge & Duck Day Herefordshire
Highbird70 replied to Duffryn's topic in Sporting Shooting Videos
You really sure that it could be better??...The way I see it was a really fantastic day for you, you shot very well and you gave the best sporting chance to the birds and thats its very important to me, on top of that I'm reallyimprssed with the control of your dogs and his retrives, overall for me its a 10+, really enjoyed this video and thanks for sharing -
It's only as complcated as you wish to make it. The trick is to use as few variations as possible, for example just use a 28gram plastic load for everything then just vary the shot size in it for clay or game etc otherwise you will be forever adjusting your reloading set up and not get anywhere. I starting to realize that, it can get very complicated and the more I read or research on the internet the deeper you go. My target its very simple for the moment, I would like to reload a cheaper cartdrige for pigeoning with fibre wad n6 28g and all round cartdrige for game with fibre wad too n5 32g (rabbit/pheasant/partdrige). In your experience, which powder would you use, case, primers, wad. I was thinking to buy 1000 cases with 25mm brass for the game type reload, to re-use and use recycled one like fiocchi and hull type for pigeoning Thanks for all help

Been reading a lot lately, including a new book that I bought "The ABCs of reloading"...my head spins now...'m dreaming of wads ..primers...and fiocchi cases...lol. Its far more technical than I thought or expected,....so....To every type of case theres a type of loading- to every type of powder there is a type of primer and type of wads.....and of course what load you want to use related to lead. I'm collecting fiocchi empty cartdriges and hull at the moment and working on the shotmaker, but soon I will have to start an excel spread sheet with data loads. A couple of question, Where do you buy the powder at the best price?, what type of powder do you use? Game or pigeon Am I correct that assuming an average of 20 grain of powder you will be able to load round about 350-360 cartdriges?

I fully agree, but if you dont have wheels you can't drive a car round the race track, I'm trying to standarize a shotmaker, so that even the inesperienced can have a go, without ecountering the problem in the making of the tool, the use of it and the best outcome...as you said will come with esperience. Ok, so we all agreing on hole size, 0.8=n6, 0.9=5.5

Would you mind to show me a piccy of them please? ty Mark

In this shotmaker I threaded m6, and the mig tips are 0.8, and I have some 0.9, to make some shot 6 or 5.5, do you think its not correct, should I go lower or higher? Ty
-
Ty Essex hunter, As soon prototype finished and all working perfectly, Its my intention of fabricateing them and selling them as per cost price, I think what is stopping many people to get more passionate about reloading its the overwelming task of building and sort out materials, I would like to point out that I am a beginner about reloading, but there are some very good people in this forum and very helpfull...floating chambes...siitingedges and so on, does are the people that we need to treasure, they have great exsperience and knowledge. This unit hopefully when finished should cost under 50 pounds, and it will solve the problem about makeing leat shots, I need to start working on the bucket and tray now, surely I'll find something usefull at the scrappy. Ty Mark 0.8 or 0.9 to big?
-
Yes, I thought that the mig tips where not the best for the job, I will try with bolt with a 4mm hss bit and a 0.8 hole on the head, if they don't work I will increase the bolt size, back to the tower drill now Ty

Hi All, This morning the shotmaker 1 was finished, for the moment I want to try it with the mig bits to see how it works adn later will be using bolts m6, tomorrow I will give it a try, need to buy some conditioner first and to do a few ingots, lead and wheel weights, 1 to 4 ratio. The shotmaker in the immage its 25x20x4cm with 3 drippers, the front plate as been intenionally welded with a 10mm steel to help with heat retention, the back legs can be adjusted with the bolt type mech, the 35mm lip its already bent a 12'. If you see something wrong in the prototype please advise and be blunt as much as possible so that I can modify

Hi SX3, Why can't you take a 30.06 thru France?
-
I used for many years and my dad too a browning 30-06 and always stopped wildboars on their tracks, range under 100m usually but I know some colleagues have shot them easily at 150m with same result...clean kill. Mark

Thanks Gents, Very helpfull site and big bonus that I can go and try a flight or a day, don't know what the Club will offer me, I will be very happy either way at least I will be there learning. The club fee dosen't seem to be extremely expensive and hopefully its a good starting point, I'm very aware of the danger of the marshes, especially if knowone as thought you o how to go about on them, hence the club its really valuable for an aprentice like me. Really apreciate all the help Ty Mark
