  1. As its largely about the working class rising up to overthrow the bourgeoisie, it doesn’t really touch on gun control as a book. Also, one of its authors was incredibly keen on fox hunting....
  2. Very much an amateur here - but Purdeys are complicated guns - if it hasn't been shot since 2002 it may well just need to be serviced.
  3. πŸ‘ - hopefully, it would be a case of shooting proving its credentials. We all know a lot of conservation work goes into shooting. If events conspire against our sport, it would be wonderful to think we could divert to an outcome like this. Hopefully not, for the reasons others have outlined below. I don't mind a duck drive on a shoot - my syndicate puts a few down. But i'm sure we've all seen shoots where its less that ideal for one rrason or more. That's interesting to hear - I've never seen one on our land. Despite hearing that there were plenty about in the 80s / 90s. πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘
  4. The title says it all really - but it was a bit of a toss up between this section and the gamekeepers one. Being proactive for a moment, instead of dwelling on the worse possible of all outcomes - what do pepole think about the possibility of a greater number of grey partridge shoots in the future? My experience tends to be that water flows down the easiest path, and that once it meets resistance its find another way. Greys are obviously one of our truly native game birds, but by all accounts are a pain to rear in any great numbers. I wonder if with what is / may be looming on the horizon re non native game bird releases, more pepole and more effort being put into the artificial rearing of greys might be the way forward?
  5. It's in the Telegraph behind a paywall - I read it the other day, on one of the handful of free views you are allowed each month. From memory, there wasn't much to illuminate the statement, but I was hungover - I think it just serves the purpose of that particular paper, which is to try and terrify pepole into line in a fairly Blimpish way. Before everyone jumps on, I'm not a huge fan of the Labour Party, and I certiantly don't appreciate their view's on 'the right to roam', private schools or country sports - but really? Venezuela? https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2023/12/17/jordan-peterson-britain-venezuela-for-20-years-labour-wins/#:~:text=Britain will be β€œVenezuela for, would be a β€œcatastrophe”.
  6. Valid, if old fashioned. I agree entirely with the first half of the paragraph. That said, I have no problem with you being 'homophobic' (your word, not mine) - I just wish you were more amusing while doing so....
  7. I remain unconvinced - but maybe you could buy me a drink sometime? Always happy to change my mind.
  8. I'm with you on that, I far prefer Homosexual - speaking personally
  9. πŸ‘ I've been finding the 70mm bio ammo blue works perfectly well - not as cheap as cheap lead, but only a little more than the premium stuff. It's good enough / affordable enough for my normal game shooting.
  10. That looks quite a bit higher grade than a lot of the guns i've seen - is it a fowling gun or a pigeon gun? It's certiantly comething I would happily shoot - the engraving is lovely. πŸ‘
  11. Thanks I bought the case for the label - infact, I spent spent a year or so looking (on and off) for the correct trade label / adress to match the date of manufacture of the gun. This one is out by about two doors and six months from memory - which I thought was within tolerance. The case was originally laid out for a hammer gun and with red blaze - but I had to settle for green as the chap who refitted it (and did a wonderful job) couldn't get hold of any that was red. I prefer the green, but it's historical incorrect apparently. It's a lovely gun and handles very well, despite being sleeved.
  12. AYA no2 would be a sound choice. On the Coggie side of things - these are some pictures of mine, which is a Gibbs and Pitt leaver cocking action
  13. Just to add to what's been said, there are some excellent guns out there with the name Cogswell and Harrison on them, but from what I've seen, they tend to be the higher quality sidelocks.
  14. πŸ‘ I also forgot to say, I keep a ratio of how many birds to cartridges fired in my game book - there's no noticeable difference between it re lead and blue
  15. I bought a slab last year, and at first had disappointing results with them that I now put down to chopping and changing guns mid season. When I've used them this season, and not not been faffing about changing guns all the time, the 27g no4 shot worked admirablely though 1/4 and 1/2 choke at my flatland, part driven, part walked up syndicate - I don't know if I imagined it, but the birds tended to fold more convincingly that when shot with steel. Like steel though, they do run out of oomph eventually - but they happily killed traditional pheseants coming out over traditional / mature oak woods.
  16. πŸ‘ I usually break my gun down after a day's shooting and put it in a motor case of some type with a sachet of VP90 in. Then, if its a 'nice' gun, it gets cleaned before being put away in the cabinet that has another sachet of VP90 in. If it's my over and under with chrome lined bores, it gets put away in the same cabinet and cleaned at the end of each week.
  17. I use it - it makes cleaning barrels untill spotless very easy compared to using 009. Its also not supposed to damage wood, which is a bonus - as is the fact that I can get it on my hands and they don't end up red raw. I don't tend to follow the instructions on the can / use their special felt pads - just a squirt down each end of the barrel, scrub with a brass brush, and leave for 40 minutes before using kitchen roll on a jag until clean - which is no time at all compared to some other cleaning products I've used.
  18. I don't think poultry and livestock are mutually exclusive terms as far as this is concerned - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/poultry-including-game-birds-registration-rules-and-forms - if you go to the compulsory registration form and scroll down to page four, you'll see see covers game bird releases.
  19. I would guess they possibly have a rough idea, because my understanding is that you have to register as a poultry keeper if you have over 50 birds. Quite how many shoots do this I don't know - but I would expect the bigger ones (the ones that are perceived to be the problem from my understanding) to be more likely to conform to the need to register as poultry keepers than the chaps from the pub who released 300 birds on a local farm for a small rough shoot?
  20. Thanks - how would you go about putting one in the wrong way? Do you mean using the wrong type / spec choke?
  21. Sorry all - just a coming sense check if anyone would mind indulging me..... Am I right to think that a multi choke gun isn't going to be dented at the choke end of the barrel if you can screw and unscrew multichokes with no problem?
