Sorry, but you can't beat Land Rover, I've got (don't laugh) a 1976 Short wheel base Series 3, its got 44,000 genuine miles on the clock and I've got the MOT certs to prove it, absolutely blinding. In the last snow it was up and down side roads which little japanese sports cars and their owners could only swear at. All for the princely some of £1,900, not for the cold -blooded though. The greatest laugh to drive though, just watch those MR2's leap up peoples' drives to get out of your way.
  2. Top man Hammergun I'll go with that, all I can say its unfortunate that the **** in Dunblane didn't use a cricket bat, that would have saved us a lot of embarassment in Australia.
  3. Cranfield, Totally agree about the practice aspect, I have only been shooting about 18months and have really muddled through with what technique I have (if you can call it a technique). I have had a fear of the fast quartering bird and fast overhead which really put my score down. With Bidwell's technique it just seems to buy you so much time to get on these birds and kill them before they get over the channel. He has also got a great sporting layout 13 stands "Very natural" as well as Skeet and Compact Sporting, also got a trout lake but my gun got weeded up when I stalked a particularly large rainbow.
  4. I didn't get one shooting or fishing related present, that is if you don't count wot I bought myself. Did have a laugh in William Evans of StJames' though, they wanted over 200 quid for a canvas "leg of mutton" gunslip, how the rich live. Happy New Year to everyone who uses this site, mines a large malt
  5. I think there are some very confused people out there, because I don't think for a minute that any of you shooters, fisherman, falconers or hunters out there would willingly want to see an animal that you had shot, or caught suffer unduly. The last question about "wanting the freedom to be cruel" is a loaded question and should be treated with the contempt it deserves. This is a typically provocative tactic employed by these mindless idiots who are trying desperately to make freedom a thing of the past
  6. Just a little note of recommendation. Being a bit of a newbie shooter myself I went down to John Bidwell's Shooting School at High Lodge near Saxmundham, Suffolk. for a bit of tuition from the champ. Excellent day, shot about 200 cartridges at all sorts of sporting targets, taught a whole new way of shooting (to me anyway) which appears to give you a lot more time to get on the clays. All for £125 and out of that I suppose you get about 5 hours of tuition on various targets with lunch and snacks thrown in. John himself is a really pleasant bloke and wants all the students to do well and puts over the instruction in a very clear way.
  7. It doesn't seem to cater for your average living room either, ie none of the wife's nick-nacks, pictures, flying ducks etc and the wall has to be one colour, preferably white. I think its really aimed at club facilities. I knew there was something better to spend £490 on
  8. Yeah, I've seen it advertised in Sporting Gun magazine, the name of the product and the website escape me for the moment (probably something to do with all the scotch I drink) I shall find out for ya. I've been into the website before and it looks the business if you've got the beer tokens that is. There's quite a few required.
  9. Go Beretta or Browning (Miroku), Berettas have chromium plated tubes, less prone to corrosion than Brownings, they also have a much slimmer action. Get a 28" for a good allround sporter with multi chokes. Also every gunsmith can service them and spares are readily available if the unthinkable happens.
  10. Firstly, buy Land Rover International, which is the best Landy mag of the lot, then 'ave a gander at all the Series 3 landy's that are about. You can get a good restoration job for about £3.5k or pay about £1.5k and have a tinker, they are dead easy to work on, just look at the chassis, spring hangers, and the bulkhead before taking it for a drive. Things to watch then all revolve around gearbox and transfer box which will be the most expensive bits to replace also the steering may wander about a bit as well. Its worth contacting the Series 3 owners club who can give advice as well and if you join it means dirt cheap insurance.

Columbus, Thanks for you reply mate, see your personal messages. Game bore.
  12. I've been to Dartford before, but you've probably done that one. A lot of the blokes from our club go to Caterham, and some go to Horne which is one of these mobile shoots which changes location to avoid the 28 day rule, havn't done that one, its advertised in Sporting Gun. STOP PRESS:- Just bought a good rough shooter sbs 28ins choked 1/4 and 1/2, non-ejector, Spanish make beginning with U that sounds like a striker for Real Madrid, hardly used £80.
  13. Glad you lot got there, testing aint it? Well I think it is. got there about 12, didn't take Landy in the end, didnt relish prospect of bailing it out after the rain. Dont forget its the last Sunday in month, see you next month.
  14. I second that, the keepers on our local shoot were saying exactly the same thing. Theres a woman down our road feeds them flamin' dog food at midnight most nights, she regularly has about 6 or 7 round her and they all pooh in my garden.
  15. No way, the way I shoot and after my last remark I will be dressed like an oak tree in Autumn and that doesn't mean I will be dressed in Cammo. No, seriously I will be the fat *** with the blue and cream short wheel base Series 3 Landy, Best form of transport in the world. That is the only clue your getting, Oh yes forgot to mention the shoot starts at midnight. (10.00am really)
  16. I am now going to say something really stupid, how about the gun with the lowest score buys a round (so that has put the kiss of death on my shooting, if I needed one)
  17. I want a Harris Hawk, two ferrets, a Jack Russell and field full of bunnies.
  18. Nice one Big Dave very handy.
  19. To all, Slight ****up turn left on FOURTH roundabout from M25 not THIRD.
  20. This is what you've all been waiting for, From Maidstone get to M25 and turn left on to it and get to the A21 turn off sign posted to Bromley & Orpington, go along A21 until you reach the third roundabout and turn left off the roundabout, this will be signposted to Biggin Hill or Downe. A very short distance after the roundabout there will be a turning on the left called Shire Lane, go down this road to the very end (quite a long one) and turn right at the end at T-junction (away from Downe). Go to mini roundabout and turn left towards Biggin Hill keep going past a Shepherd Neame pub on your right and the Kings Arms on your left. Go past the main gate of Biggin Hill aerodrome with two WWII planes at the gate. Be prepared to turn right into Saltbox Hill which is on a fast left hand bend, go down hill (Bit hairy when wet) this turns right in some woods and becomes Jewels Hill and then left and becomes Sheepbarn Lane. you then come to crossroads with Layhams Road on right and Skid Hill Lane on left TURN LEFT go down here until you see a farm on your left with an avenue of trees leading to farm buildings this avenue is about 100yards long. Do not go past farm as soon as you see the avenue of trees look for a gate on the right side of the road and that is the Shoot. Phew!!!!
  21. Does anyone know the minimum age that you can be issued with a Shotgun Certificate? Am I correct in assuming that a person of 14 years can use a shotgun without being a shotgun certificate holder whilst in the company of an adult with a certificate? What age can someone be a cert holder and possess a shotgun for sporting/competition purposes in a public place?
  22. But he hasn't been, unless you count that picture of him playing blow football with a £20 note up his nose with 30 million grains of talcum powder on a mirror. :=)
  23. Did anyone get an envelope from the Countryside Alliance which was stuck down and had nothing in it? All it had was a tear in the top left hand corner but the envelope was completely empty. Spookeeee. The following week they sent me a load of raffle tickets, so I am a bit puzzled by the empty one or have I just got a dodgy postey? :grumpy:
  24. How did we all get on at JJ's then? Was it a ... or more of a ... You cant blame the weather. Does anyone know of any shoots that are open Boxing Day? In the sarf of Lundun (Sussex) or norf Kent that is.
  25. Cranfield, Cant make JJ's on Saturday, I'm going to my club shoot in the morning and then doing some etc. etc. etc. that the wife has arranged for me in the afternoon, (for that read decorating, just in case you thought it was something Carnal). Keep me posted on any future outings, you'll like the Keston shoot, very natural shooting through undergrowth and the like, very sporting.
