  1. CAB -- your right mate it sounds like he's bored

what are you using as a retrieve , try changing it to something more exciting ( rabbit skin , phez wings etc ) . turn and run or walk the opposite direction while recalling him , see if that will gee him up

Also you could lay off retrieves alltogether and just get the dog to recall instead half doz times , get excited yourself and give him a big fuss and treats ( dont worry about the delivery ) just getting him back to you with as much enthusiasim as poss.

  2. i do this excercise when indoors , just get my dog to "sit up" in front of me nice and calm and place the dummy in her mouth hand under her chin and a "hold" command , took a week or 2

now as she opproaches me with a retrieve i tell her "hold" and "sit up" , 8 times out of 10 she does naturally now , if she drops it at your feet i NEVER pick it up , just back away and give the hold command until she hands it to me .

  3. i have 3 dogs and if i have to leave them a long time ( which is hardly ever ) they are together and have access to drinking water .

if when i come home and they,ve **** every where then i just have to clear it up .

dogs dont actually have a concept of time , just company

    so get 2 :good::good:

but seriously i would never leave just the one dog behind it would probably fret too much :shoot:

  4. on my second one 1st was 3.1 current one is the 3.0l version .

love them , just something about the way they look :hmm: and brill off road .

what spec is the trooper , for a 2000 model i think your looking at around £2,200 -- £3000 ,, depends what its got history etc ..

  5. if its cold water tail , give her a gentle rub and massage of the base of tail , but be gentle  . the idea is to increase the blood flow and heat to the region a little bit , make sure she stays dry and free from cold drafts.

both my lab and now my springer has this from time to time , can be very sore :good: , always after being in cold water , the muscle gets cold and spasams up and all that wagging just makes it worse.

  6. my older springer of 17 months as a pedigree that is mostly red with FTCH and i can see that in her

the new pup , i,m talking about is only 10 weeks old , she as some FTCH in the ped but not many , and they are back on the 4th and 5th generation.

i bought her mainly on looks 1st as i wanted this one to have a lot more colour , guess its all down to me really and how i train them .

interesting to hear from anyone thats done well with a none FTCH, FTAW though , gives us hope :good:

  7. ps. forgot to say the vet said it was nerve sheath pain or something like that but could,nt find a definate cause , and that it would probably get worse , eventually it did , not saying thats whats wrong with your dog by the way .

    good luck :good:

  8. my lab was only 6 years old and was similar to this , various vets saw him and eventually said it was a nerve problem , nothing could be down except Rimadyl every day , eventually i had to have him put to sleep , i still miss him like mad and sometimes shed a tear when looking at his pics .

one thing i will say mate , and you dont want to hear it , is please dont let your dog suffer if he,s in that much pain -- sorry :good:

  9. how important do you think having a dog with a pedigree full of FTCH is ?

are they 100% neccersary to turn out a good working dog .

when looking at 5 generation pedigrees , will just a few FTCH in the dogs past help , as in way back in the 4th and 5th generation , or do you need something more recent for the instinct to rub off :good:

and is it essential to have both parents working .

Reason i ask is -- while looking through various gun dogs for sale ads all over the web and making phone calls , you often can suss out the ads where people are breeding there dogs just because they have a good linage and trying to turn some cash ( nothing wrong with that at all ) . but some ads also say make great "working dogs" , when you know only too well that theres no way the breeder could know that :birthday:

it just made me start thinking about how important it all is .

    what do you think ??

  10. nice one mate not thought of that one , its that the moist sachets i,ve seen it in kennel gate stores.

how many or much do you feed a pup ( age depending )

important question -- whats the poo like

re taurine -- any reason why not

    cheers

  11. just wondering which one of these pup foods you would choose for a 8 week old springer ,

    Eukanuba pup

    chudleys pup

    skinners pup

    Wagg pup

    JWB pup

    CSJ pup

    or other ??

i feed skinners to the older dogs and i did feed skinners pup to the youngest , but i can only find it in the big sacks and its not cheap to buy incase the pup wont touch it .

just wondering as anyone seen the skinners puppy food in smaller bags ( its a yellow bag )

just too add the breeder gave me some Wagg puppy and tinned butchers tripe puppy food to mix in , this is what she as fed the whole litter on and they look well .

would,nt of been my first choice  but if any of you guys use it , let me know what you think.

    thanks
