  1. Rivers West Eider jacket is quite good. Their 3XL fits me and I'm a big bloke.
  2. Cheers for a fun day Alan, thanks to Wabbitbosher et al for letting me tag along in their group for a bit!
  3. Thanks for a great day. We both really enjoyed ourselves. Nice to meet some of you. Thanks for your encouraging words to the Mrs.
  4. Really looking forward to it It'll be good to be back in God's finest county again. I used to work at the old Q8 garage many years ago. Is there anything else I should know or be telling the wife before we come up? Any advice/stating the obvious comments welcome! see you all on Saturday
  5. Will be there with the misses, looking forward to meeting you all!
  6. We've got an East Anglian, 28 1/2' Classic, often seen pottering up and down the Blackwater
  7. Joined this club recently! picked up an old Savage Arms/Stevens model 79 for a steal, had a great time round the wood with it last week, something to chuck about a bit and not worry if it gets wet, takes a knock is fantastic. Good times - just need to get familiar with it and ready to take it out on the marshes next year
  8. My father in law, passed on his years of wisdom while at the clay ground a while ago, he uses the old belly beak bang approach normally, but for high birds he recommends belly beak bosh bang method, where the 'bosh' is a fairly solid push/shove on your gun to get that extra bit in front/speed up the swing. took me a couple of goes to get the feel for what he meant, but haven't missed a high bird (clay or real) since! (well one or two..), that's with 1/4 or 1/2 choke 6's and 7.5s
  9. some really useful advice on this thread as I'm fairly new to it too and this is definitely what I've experienced! Some days hundreds and some days nothing! And definitely take the advice about keeping still and covering face! they spot you from a bloomin' mile away!
  10. thank you - really happy with this, perfect for what we wanted. A pleasure to deal with!
  11. It's from the new Hairy Bikers diet book. I imagine it would work well with any curry recipe. I find slow cooking curries allow the meat to tenderise and the flavours to develop nicely, just finish off with the fresh coriander garnish and yogurt before serving.
  12. I used breast meat in the slow cooker to make a cracking dansak (used the new hairy dieters recipe and replaced the lamb with pigeon), was absolutely fantastic.
  13. had a very enjoyable day in the woods last Saturday, high winds, getting as they came in, enough to stock the freezer, pass on a few to friends and have a bloomin good large pot of pigeon Dansak. Why didn't people tell me about this years ago!
  14. Thanks for the welcome Have been out and about in my permissions (18acre mixed wood and 3 or 4 fields adjacent) a bit recently, great fun and plenty of meat in the freezer for the game pies over Christmas! I have to say it's making me see the countryside in a totally different way now and I drive by other places looking at flight paths, crops, etc/ Good times! have so much to learn!
  15. would also consider a v.cheap o/u 28", single trigger ejector
  16. thanks for the offer, I'm on a SGC only and not looking to spend much over £100-150, I know its a long shot but you never know what's available! It's for a 'spare' for days out in the woods/fields.
  17. Hi, I'm after a really cheap 12g semi, located Colchester Area, Essex, thanks.
  18. I'm after something cheap and cheerful(ish) thats going to be kind on the wallet, gun and shoulder. (clay shoots - 30" O/U bettinsoli sporter) A Local shop is promoting these - VIRI FOB Cartridges 28g 7 1/2 Plastic - any thoughts or suitable alternatives? I'm kind of in the mindset to choose a cartridge and stick to it, rather than constantly chopping and changing without really being able to tell the difference. Any helpful comments welcome
  19. Just realised I've been on for a few months but haven't introducted myself! Finally got my certificate through after a 5 month wait and am now eager to get cracking! In and around the Colchester area. Look forward to being an active part of the PW community!
  20. Currently says "PLEASE NOTE – the application process for New Grant Applications is currently taking around 16 weeks due to high volume of applications received, however we are working hard to decrease this process time" As mentioned asbove - pester power. I also spoke with BASC who called them on my behalf. Already had shotgun, was being kept on my sister-in-laws cert/cabinet. Was just a massive pain relying on others, not being able to go freely and buy cartridges, etc, etc. Still freedom awaits and will be up fennes quite reguarly and knocking a few pigeons down hopefully. Have access to a wood so will be lying in wait come roosting/home time.
