  1. Anyone recommend a decent, reasonable gunsmith please
  2. Any suggestions for a basic sub 12 lb air rifle for close-ish rabbits please. And is a 177 as effective as a 22 for head shot? Thanks all
  3. that sounds nice, bit more them and us round here if afraid
  4. We had some of the regular guns shooting on our beaters day I was told. I didn't bother going
  5. Ok thanks. If it has been feeding heavily on ivy, will that make the meat slightly toxic?
  6. Evening gents, whilst breasting out a pigeon I shot today I found its crop was full of small hard black berries. I know it's a rookie question, but I am a rookie, so am I right in thinking they are ivy berries? Thanks
  7. The terrier lads would come and sort the rat problem for free, or at least let you know what numbers are aboout
  8. that's got to be the fairest way. On my local shoot there are no pegs, the chaps in charge decide where people stand. To be honest, it's that kind of attitude that has completely turned me off of game shooting
  9. The last beaters day I went on, the chap who runs the shoots mates (who didn't beat) and 2 paying guests got the proper pegs, and the poor old beaters got put on the ends , up hills out the way and round the edges. One bloke didn't have a bird come near him all day! Says it all
  10. Out of control dogs working cover 50 yds in front of the beating line and pushing the birds back over us beaters, and standing in the rain, snow , sub zero temperatures waiting for the guns to stop fannying around and get to there peg!
  11. then why not say that you don't agree with shooting without a dog based on ethics. Inflamatory statements like the above only give ammunition to those who would like to see an end to shooting, fishing and fieldsports
  12. Hoping to join kent wildfowlers, but holding out until I have the right dog. I'm still really keen to get out there again (already had a taster day with kwca), and gain some more experience this season. Happy to travel, if anyone has any suggestions ,would be gratefully received
  13. Really good, all 5 I have seen really capture the atmosphere
  14. Novice gun looking (without dog) looking for a trip/experience inland or on the coast please
  15. I have no excuses, I did indeed shoot like a bell end!
  16. Although being a novice shooter, I am capable of bagging a bird or two, but whilst out on a rough day today, no matter where I pointed the 16, I couldn't hit a barn door! I missed every pigeon, had a couple of pheasants practically fly onto the end of my gun, that I warned with both barrels, and watched them sail overhead, and ended the day with one bird that we couldn't even find! Please tell me I'm not alone in having days like this, I know I provided no end of entertainment for the other guns, but things will get better won't they, I'm starting to over think the shots under the pressure.
