  3. I live in the countryside mate, its alright being a smart *** but at the end of the day its what works best for i not you. Mk4 isnt a good necking trap? works fine for me... where im from we dont get KFC foxes "i live in the countryside mate" they feed on things like game birds and rabbits etc.. if you have heard of them. Its alright being cockey but that doesnt get the job done.
  4. When i first joined i got told there is some great people on this forum and also some cocks but some was a understatement. Thanks for all those who are beeing great people.
  5. Hey guys! Just giving some suggests to try and help for new trappers. So as most of us will be trapping soon or are already just like to say get those tunnels dug early! Most pests are pretty smart right? So i would recommend by cleaning out your tunnels early will give you a better chance of catching as over time the tunnel becomes more natural and still usable. When your taking the pest out of the trap ensure your wearing gloves as they can carry disease specialy rats. When catching a wiesel or a stote try leaving it on top of the trap as this attracts others. I would recommend mark 4 fen traps as they ensure a soft give around the neck. Also consentrate on dikes, rivers and streams as mink are becoming a big problem from my own experience last year. As there is plently of drays about at this time of the year try making a dint in them as squirrels do go for eggs. Magpies and crows are the main culprits for eggs and i would suggest you realy consentrate on these as they wipe out every egg they see. I would recommend clam traps to catch your crows/magpies and then use a larsen trap. Try putting the clam trap next to the larsen as this is extremely effective. Fox traps do work if you know how to use them. I would recommend snares and large cage traps as this really effective if you place them in the right places. When snaring make sure you leave no cent behind so use gloves and you can even rub you hands in mud to get rid of cent. When walking to set one dont walking down the tramline or run walk around. Please make sure your not breaking the law so make sure the fox cannot drag the weight or get tangle in anything. Cage traps do work but need some practice they tend to work on young foxes as there less weary. Try putting baits like rabbits or geese as geese lasts along time without going badly. Hope this was a huge help if you would like to know anything else just ask or dropa pm! Thanks Jack!
  6. This would of just made your shot pattern arrive at different times like they usually do but possibly more extreme.
  7. Haha all means if your shooting well try your luck ☺
  8. Guys! Pigeon shooting is great fun and one the most enjoyable sports there is. But non of you guys take note on how many shots you have? Whats the point in going if you dont know your Averages, this may come across quite big headed but i am quite competitive as i go claying every now and again and i like to know how well i am shooting. Possibly alot of you go and just blaze away at everything you see but from my point of view you need to keep count and look back and improve.
  9. I start striaght after dinner ill keep that in mind ty
  10. Start pairing soon so that they get used to there partner.
  11. So in the summer the bird has no shelter? The bird always has shelter if not your breaking the law.
  12. Great job! Keep it up. Spaniel must be eating its five a day tto be picking those bags 😃
  13. Your right lol. The birds do tend to just slip on the edge when its windy and come further in when less windy thanks for the only usefull think on this thread ☺ Guys just forget this thread happened, we all have different opinions and I just think pigeons are a beautiful animals which need to be controll because they cause millions of pounds in damage to crops. This may come across disrespectful but as aga man pointed out im a farmer who automatically thinks about the farming point of view. Thanks for all the variety of comments lol. I think ill keep doing what im doing i dont need any tips for now... Jack
  14. Im regretting making this thread now! I kill pigeons because there a pest i dont do it for sport.... What the hell this is the first thread ive made......
  15. What are you talking about? This is my first thread ive every made... What do you class "high" as? i only shoot at a bird if i can see the vital area's and know that if i pull that trigger there dead. A lack of respect? So dont you shoot at high birds? I would rather kill pigeons without blowing there feathers all over the place and making a complete mess of the bird... You must be mistaking me for someone else mate.
  16. Bad luck mate! Better luck next time. Could have shot at any high bird's?
  17. Yes, as its fairly windy the birds tend to curl round fast and low when decoying in that kind of wind.
  18. In lincolnshire we usaully start early march but if your seeing alot about i would start late febuary. It tends not to work aswell if your early Catching them.
  19. As its not the first time just have a word with the man incharge and tell him he needs to be more careful and if it happens again they should pay for it.
  20. Hey guys, im going roosting later on and wondering if you got any tips. I like to get big bags and im not botherd about the sport i do it as vermin controll, although its nice to pop at the high ones. First night i got 20 something for 30 so shots and the secound night i got a 10 or 12 for about 19 20 shots. Every night has been quite **** but there has been no wind and today there is about 15mph so that will help a little. Please comment! Thanks Jack
  21. Haha ☺ thanks for replying. Gl next week. I will tell you how many i get tomorrow ☺
  22. Not being harsh, your partridge count is low and im sure you can improve. Do you clear all your pens well so that there disease free? Are the birds healthy and fit? Are they getting plenty of food? Do they have lots of cover to get away from birds of prey Aswell as sleeping ground? (Grass strips, leaving maze strips till you can etc...) Are you doing everything you can to kill vermin? Lots of Birds of prey? Dont make it easy for them to get your birds! Theres always going to be a few but if they cant feed they will move on. I know theres pigeons etc... but its better for them to kill pigeons then your birds. Are you birds flying fit? Get them to there best! GL next season consentrate on vermin!
