  1. My problem is that around me (which borders on the Peak District) it's pretty much all pasture for grazing, hardly any good arable land. The areas that are good, which are mainly around J29 M1 are all sewn up. The farmers just don't want to know regardless how you approach them. Also the good arable land is around much more densely populated areas, i.e. more folk wanting shooting. If anyone has any suggestions I'm open to them, unless it's 'sell up and move to Norfolk', which as much as I'd love to do work doesn't allow at present!
  2. My problem is I'm in a club with three plots of land but the nearest is an hours drive, so no opportunity for reconnaissance. Just have to turn up and hope. I've noticed around my areas (Derby, Newark and Melton Mowbray) there is plenty of rape, which seems to get several birds that once scared off are never to be seen again, nothing flighting in. There hasn't really been any drilling yet so the birds I have seen (not on my patch unfortunately) seem to be favouring clover. It's a ****** really, thinking of giving the NPPC a try, anyone have any thoughts?
  3. Greta shooting, really impressive distances. I too am interested in choke and cartridges?
  4. Just bought a Bergara (if I've spelled that correctly) via Amazon from Bushcraft. Fantastic bit of kit, legs come off and slide into the seat, each leg is independently height adjustable and when folded it all fits into a carry bag (included), also swivels. Tried it earlier this week and was very impressed, would highly recommend.
  5. Can anyone recommend a decent pair of ear defenders, there are so many for sale and the prices vary so greatly. Are the traditional over the head one's better or worse than the moulded one's that go inside you ears? Any advice would be welcome
  6. Good luck. I was two weeks later than the required eight weeks in posting my renewal, a rather difficult lady in the firearms dept insisted she wouldn't even begin processing my certificate application until I 'lodged' the guns, just being deliberately awkward basically. As no one I knew had space for my guns in their cabinet I had to lodge them at my local Gun dealer's, which seemed a little silly as they've been in the same cabinet for 30 years and there's never been a problem. Once this had been done the Firearms Officer visited (really great bloke) and hurried it through for me. Trouble was whilst I was queueing in the gun dealer's to pick up my guns I started playing with a Beretta A400, came out of the shop £1650 lighter. That was her fault!!!!!
  7. I have a Husqvarna 136 and its over 5 years old, it has had literally tons of use and is a fantastic little saw. During the winter I cut loads of wood for burning and just tidying around a paddock and wood that I own, this little beast copes with anything and everything I throw at it. Seriously, you won't go far wrong with a Husqvarna. I personally put them on par with Stihl, actually better on the smaller models.
  8. You'd have your hands full, remove control in one hand and gun in the other!
  9. I am not listening to anti-police rubbish as you put it, I am giving examples of my personal experiences of dealing with police when crime has been committed. My opinion, and that of the bulk of my friends and colleagues is that we are fast approaching a situation where it is pointless to report crime. All you receive is a crime number, and the ridiculous implications of this is that it appears crime is falling, when it is just not being reported due to a lack of faith by the public in the police to do anything about what has happened to them! Just out of interest, did you move to france to avoid the Hillsborough enquiry?
  10. I'm not 'alleging' anything, I'm quoting actual occurrences, thought that was what you were asking for. Seems I've touched a nerve!!!
  11. Quite obviously you haven't been a victim of crime!
  12. I thought it would be obvious. If over half the allegations of corruption aren't even being investigated that's worse than light sentencing, it's no sentencing at all!
  13. Well lets hope you're right. My partner and I ran a business for over ten years, which largely used cash, during that period we were robbed on 6 separate occasions. On occasion one occasion alone we lost £3.5k. We even dropped CCTV footage at the local police station as they couldn't be bothered to collect it and again heard nothing. We had a man go berserk, threatens and push staff, force is way into a restricted area, all caught again on CCTV. One of the arresting officers told us (after watching the footage) he would be charged with affray, which was a more serious charge than assualt, he was released without charge and back to his old tricks the next day! During all these robberies we never set eyes on the CID, they would arrange a visit but never showed up on any of the occasions. This perhaps explains why I'm cynical about the police!!!!
  14. I wasn't 'SHOUTING'. The site somehow altered my text size!
  15. "Imagine you lived in a country which last year had 3,000 allegations of police corruption. Worse, imagine that of these 3,000 allegations only half of them were properly investigated — because for police officers in this country, corruption was becoming routine. Imagine that the police increasingly used their powers to crack down not on criminals but on anyone who dared speak out against them. What sort of a country is this? Well, it’s Britain I’m afraid — where what was once the finest, most honest service in the world is in danger of becoming rotten". The above is a quotation from a very well known newspaper printed last year!
  16. Are you in the police by any chance?
  17. I have a similar opinion about the police. If ever a police officer is hurt (or worse) the relevant constabulary drops everything, goes into overdrive and the culprit is promptly brought to the strictest form of justice permitted. Why then when a police officer is found to be breaking the law is he/she inevitably given a lenient sentence? If they are trusted to enforce and uphold the law and then deliberately break it they should face a far harsher sentence than the rest of us!!!
  18. I agree with a lot of the answers on here from self employed/tradesman, but there again I am bias! I have a small plumbing and heating company and you would be absolutely amazed at the cheek of people, many must think you charge by the minute, no consideration for travel, cost of equipment, insurance etc. More often than not the job that greets you is nothing like the one described and then you receive the familiar line "the other Plumber I phoned said it would only cost £65", yeah, but you told him the same web of lies you spun me! There really should be a 'Customers from hell' programme, people are getting much more demanding and less willing to pay for it, many of whom work for the public sector, have no grasp of reality and spend half their life off sick and the other half on holiday, when they do attend their gruelling 35 hour a week climate controlled office job they most probably have a department so overstaffed no body notices if they're there anyway! Anyway thats the end of my rant, point being life and people make you cynical. Ask yourself what you'd be asking if you were called on to do the job in question!
  19. Does anyone know any other good camo jacket make and model???
  20. Hi, Anyone got one of the above for sale, ideally in camouflage? Just want to hide in the garden to stop the wife giving me pre-Xmas choirs to do!!!!! Only joking, after one for pigeon shooting.
  21. Hello, I'm getting back into pigeon shooting after a long break, still have all my shell and full bodied decoys but could really do with some advice on what else, if anything I need?
  22. Thanks for that. I've never used gliders but for the price I may well get a couple to try. A lot of people seem to favour flappers????
  23. Hi, Can anyone suggest the best camo net for pigeon shooting, I'm just getting back into it after a 18 year break so my old equipment is a bit tired and dated? Also is a magnet or flapper really a necessity, I still have all my old shell and several full bodied decoys but would welcome any advice?
