Appreciate it’s a long term thing however this virus is changing things and with that in mind it’s a possible time to start implementing this sort of thing

not seen the American program so can’t comment

Yes I agree, but I doubt you will get people going into a prison to train people at the moment.

It would be better spreading the work around our country than relying on a foreign country.

An optimist could see the lower numbers of good news. If fewer people are turning up because there are fewer people with symptoms then this is good news.

I'm sure there was something on the news this morning saying that NHS staff aren't getting tested the same because many have been tested and had no symptoms since, I could well be wrong.

we equip the prison system with the equipment to make and manufacture it gowns scrubs etc

Long term it's an idea but not now when they need stuff.

Have you ever watched anything on the USA prisons, they are a massive labour force.

  4. I've just watched 5 minutes of sky news, they were trying to say the gowns should have been checked before loading on the plane, they are clueless.  The stuff is ordered to a spec and that's what you expect.

Hopefully the gowns can still be used in care homes and won't simply be binned.

hello, that would be interesting to know lancer ?? saying that what about all the home made ( not factory) PPE that is being used like Lins face masks/ Connors head masks,/ Aprons made in 1000s by people with sewing machines at home

I'm sure the people in care homes or other places are perfectly happy and appreciative of the items they have been given, but the NHS will have to use things of a certain spec, unless times are truly desperate.

    road menders

Not sure about that bit, I've been thinking it would have been a great time to do some repairs while it's so quiet.

But your spot on, lots of people doing a great job, it would be far better to focus on the positive things the country is doing.

After numerous Labour councillors were sacked for wishing ill on Boris when he contracted the virus you'd think they'd be glad for some positive press, but oh no

"A Labour councillor has been handed a formal warning after delivering thousands of pounds worth of food to vulnerable residents while working alongside Conservative rivals."

    https://metro.co.uk/2020/05/05/labour-councillor-warned-working-tories-deliver-food-banks-12657806/

It seems their hatred of the Conservatives exceeds rational behaviour.

    That is shocking.

Stier Carmer just another champagne socialist.

I know nothing about the bloke, but when speaking in the house he looks polished, speaks well, better than BJ, which makes him far more dangerous than Corbyn ever was, and he doesn't have to back up anything he says.

So why are our media intent on trying to measure us against this lot to paint a failure on the part of the UK?

    Answers on a post card.

Because they want us to look like we are doing a bad job? Can't beat having a go at government.

What is your source of the notion that Germans abide by rules better than us?

I've read several things about how they have done track and trace with lots of testing.  Just now on the news they said Germany is re opening shops restaurants and the Bundesliga ( behind closed doors) with the caveat that if the infection rate goes over a certain amount then areas will re impose restrictions.

Do you think that would work here?

    https://www.quora.com/Do-Germans-in-particular-like-rules-and-discipline

There was a documentary on a few years ago showing how Germans are in work, compared to the attitude in the UK it was quite shocking,  but I can't think what it was called.

I'm sure most of the UK has followed the lockdown,  probably better than the authorities expected,  but muppets going hundreds of miles out of their way deserve more than a £60 fine.

As a matter of interest got back about 3 weeks before country decided to lockdown. Got no advice. However I began self imposed self isolation about two weeks before government date.

However I found it amazing that people were still leaving the country to go on holiday after lockdown had already started.

Cheers, I wondered if the airports were doing anything at the time.

5 is 2.5 more than 2, that's the difference in simple terms.

But if they can take a trip out then so can others?

5 minutes ago, Raja Clavata said:

How are you sure about this? Are you in regular contact with lots of German family, friends or colleagues?

I know the Germans have had, by and large, the same experience as most of us around all this and the one I spoke to this morning said people are fed up with the restrictions and stretching the rules.

I'm only going off what I've read that the Germans abide by the rules, they have tested and done things differently and had a lot less deaths than the UK, and I'm sure everyone is fed up with lockdown,  so should we all just head out for a drive on Friday?

It doesn't matter "if" things are being relaxed on Monday anyway.

  13. 1 minute ago, Raja Clavata said:

They broke the rules and what they did was wrong, but assuming they themselves were infected how many people could they have infected in the 200 mile ride? Similarly how many could have infected them? Fill up at the petrol station maybe. People are buying food across the counter all over the country so once there what contribution to infect are they making / risking.

So where is the difference between them having a ride out and a family of 5 going for a drive to Wales?

2 minutes ago, Raja Clavata said:

To be clear I'm not defending them, just don't get the over reaction.

I've seen loads of stories like this, had the authorities have come down hard on the first offenders people wouldn't be going for jollies 6 weeks into a lockdown.

Would you want to be going into work Monday knowing your work colleagues were flouting the lockdown?

Meant to add, I'm sure the Germans weren't going on 200 mile road trips while areas were on lockdown.

I was one of those arriving to the country from Spain during the stated period. I live in the UK, I am a UK national, born and bred here, worked here all my life and contributed to society over that time.  I went out to my place in Spain before this virus had hit the headlines, are you suggesting I should not have been allowed back home.

However I do agree that now UK and majority of other countries around the globe are in lockdown, flights should not be just allowed in as if nothing had happened. People have had ample opportunity to return by now so from now on I believe we need to tighten things up.

I thi k the isle of Man have had the right approach,  people didn't isolate on returning so they stopped people coming in,  then allowed people back but they had to stay in a hotel for two weeks at their expense,  harsh but protecting the other residents on the island.

Did you isolate on your return? Were you told to isolate while flying or leaving the airport?

Thank God you don't define public / legislative policy 🙄

Quick search rochdale to whitby 108 miles each way, last time I looked the rule was no unnecessary travel? Yes or no?

How is the virus still spreading,  muppets are doing 200 odd mile road trips for chips, they were probably just enjoying a nice ride out on quiet roads but why should they?

If the government made an example of a few then others would take note, people aren't staying home because they want to.

I have been saying it for years, no tax crush it, no mot crush it, no insurance crush it. They will learn in the end.

Either that or take it away and sell it, like you say they should learn eventually,  maybe?

Which begs the question as to why some places closed in the first place? For some it could have been because they couldn’t enforce the 2m and now they feel they can, but for others I am not sure. Take B&Q for example. I went there early days of lockdown when they were open (and enforcing social distancing) and also when they reopened. Didn’t see any difference so not sure why they closed in the interim.

I'm sure a lot will have furloughed staff, and I have no idea how that works with bringing them back in, I imagine it has to be declared and a lot of companies are probably happy having the government pay the wages, when that stops people will be back in work.

If I was BoJo i woudl want to hold my nose on this as loon as i possibly could so we can see what happens elsewhere.

That's my thoughts, see how things go in other countries, no rush after this long.

As for work, many are going back or already returning where the 2m rule can be applied, and not everyone stopped.

A tad extreme given that it's a £60 fine for breaking the lock down. Remind me not to give you the keys to the Home Office.

Had they done this at the start say after the first three weeks of lockdown and fines were issued it would have driven the message home, it's only a £60 fine but it could be helping spread things we just don't know.

Like I said above I'm not convinced the stories are 100% true, they could just be to make people think twice about going out for a nice drive.

  20. 3 minutes ago, Vince Green said:

Every case now has been infected since the lockdown (more or less). People still don't get the surfaces/hand transmission aspects. They think wearing a mask or standing two metres apart is enough but they don't isolate their shopping or post and touch their phones and car keys etc

It could be that some who are still being infected aren't in lockdown,  they may still be working or using public transport.

Not everyone is staying home, many wearing masks and gloves won't be doing it correctly.

  21. 11 minutes ago, Mr_Nobody said:

doubt there was anything sinister in their motives

Just the unnecessary travel, if these stories are true I believe that the car or bike you travelled on should be confiscated,  crush a few cars on the 6 o clock news and I'm sure that would drive the message home.
