  1. Hi Ratchers

I have been following your posts with interest and wondered whereabouts you are? I only ask, in case you were looking for more shooting opportunities since local red squirrel groups are always looking for experienced people such as yourself to shoot & (trap) grey squirrels in their area.

I am in Westmorland Red Squirrels and have got plenty of shooting from them, mostly NT woods, even Wray Castle. The only slight disadvantage is it has to be early or late in the day, when there are few tourists about. It is satisfying, the reds are slowly increasing in our area, but it is a constant battle and more volunteers are needed throughout Cumbria.

    Keep whacking and stacking!

    Cheers

  2. One shot this morning, it was on a bird feeder, swinging like a pendulum... 1179
  3. 2 more trapped, both at lunchtime rather than early morning. 1078
  4. Blimey indeed! And I thought I had a good day - 6 shot and one trapped. 1069
  5. Just the one today (& it finally rained properly)! 1041
  6. Agreed, absolutely stunning, no wonder it took himself six years!
  7. Crikey,! Well done!!👍 It does illustrate the benefit of larger feeders, since they do pull the greys in from a larger area. Unfortunately NT and Sanctuaries, want us off site before the public arrive🙁 In comparison, I had a more modest 3 trapped today, most catches this week were adolescents. 1040
  8. It It did drizzle all day two weeks ago (Thursday) and there might have been the odd shower since, but despite all the bad weather warnings on tv this week and 2 months of rain falling in the Midlands, we had nothing - I was in shorts and T shirt at Newby Bridge on Monday, a bit of wind on Tuesday and Wednesday and today 10 minutes of drizzle around 4pm, the patio was barely damp! The weather does vary significantly valley to valley. Certainly Ambleside would get more rain and snow than Windermere 4 miles away.. I can only guess Ulverston and Barrow caught the edge of the bad weather being close to the coast. Nev, The greys here don’t have flippers - they stay in bed! They have to be pretty hungry to go out in the rain. The reds don’t seem to mind the rain or snow. After all that, I caught nowt today!
  9. We haven’t had any rain to speak of in the Lakes! Just another single today. 1009
  10. A slight improvement today with two more trapped. 1004
  11. A perfect day for trapping greys, but only caught one! 1002
  12. David, I am guessing you aren’t allowed to shoot foxes on the reserve? Only one today, a male following yesterday’s female into the trap. 997
  13. Well spotted - , just checking you are all awake!👍 Theres 3 of us in the village, all of us starting to catch larger numbers, but nothing like last June (but there is still time), they are nearly all adults. You do wonder a) why are they easier to catch in June and b) where have they been hiding for last 6 months? Since we all trap all the year round. Anyway, 2 more trapped today Total 983
  14. 4 trapped today from 4 locations including the 3 hotels I started trapping on Tuesday. 979
  15. Thanks Oowee, I have also been looking for a site like this to move a boat. Just been on line, just what I wanted. the site is actually called Shiply.
  16. Last year, I gave one a new haircut with a stylish ‘centre parting’, that also made it take off vertically, like a scalded cat! Only one trapped today. 975
  17. It’s a nice idea, but would cost a fortune. Think of the employment costs and to cost of building accommodation.
  18. Got two at the hotel where yesterday the wedding stopped me shooting one,. also trapped another at the sister hotel. Total 968
  19. Only one trapped today from trap I lent out yesterday. Later, I went to put out a trap at a local hotel and spotted the offending grey on the hotels bird feeder. I went to fetch the air rifle but a bridal car arrived and parked in front of the feeder! A great shame but the bride looked lovely. Total 964
  20. Chesh - you are putting us to shame! Well done - what are you shooting with?
  21. Only one again- the female to last nights male. Had 2 more requests for traps today so have now run out of traps- I have lent 14 out leaving only 5 left for myself. Total 916
  22. Just been called out- a late one trapped with loan trap. Adult male. Total 915
