  1. It's all fun and cheap prices til you get caught.

The Isle of Wight ferry has specific policies on this, but they ask you to surrender your gun to the crew to put up with the boat captain. But, if they don't have licences I don't know exactly how legal this request is, or how comfortable I'd be with it.

As for carts, they're technically explosives and when "not caught" it's cheap. If you declare you have a few kg of gunpowder they may want to see more than a touch of safe storage!

  2. There are positives to have a partner with a licence. I'll use the lord of the mansion example....

The servant has to drive his masters gun to the shoot, or even take to a gunsmith to get it serviced
The servant goes and buys more carts whilst at the shops
The servant doesn't need the keys hidden from them!

Being able to help your partner is good, and not having to hide keys and what not is even better. I am sure if she shot, there would be times it would be useful for him to have a licence also. :)

  3. To be fair, Andy would disagree about Popham. The stands change every fortnight, even if only a little bit on some, it's always different to the time before.

Except maybe the #### of a rabbit.

Sue and Dave are looking to sell the clay rights next year, I wonder if it will change much with whomever takes it on!

  4. Hullo from NW Hants. You have a few if you're happy to go to Chalky Hill, Wallers Ash, Popham, Owls Lodge, and then depending where you are you may find going down to Fareham way as easily. Plenty of shooting grounds in the area for sure! Welcome aboard, I am only about 6-7 months ahead of you on your journey :)

🤣😂 they’re doing 12% off if that’s any good to you “BF12” at checkout

£2-3 is still a few quid off, is that one of the 4 out of a thousand genuine "cheaper" deals? :D

I needed some anyway, so every little helps. Just need to work out if the 5db difference between passive and switch will even make a difference?.....

And now I see they now charge £15 rather than offer a free home service. Ok, scrub it being cheaper lol

  6. Is there anything more romeo and juliet romantic than this movie?

I like the end of an era vibe. I was mildly disappointed with the final action scene but I found it poignant and beautiful. Unlike Bryan Adams, he would do anything for love.... and he WOULD do that.....

  7. Today I took a catamaran from Southampton to the Isle of Wight. Calm waters and good weather, and was kindly met by @Old farrier who took me to his local club for a fun day out and to give me some pointers.

I couldn't thank him more, or this forum for introducing us. I really had a wonderful day out shooting and the company was spot on. I wouldn't ever normally get this opportunity to visit this club and was really nice to see the community of shooters in this country.

Things to check next time I shoot with him though:

    • Ensure I have sweets. It not being halloween anymore is not an excuse
    • Check he hasn't tied my laces together whilst I'm on a stand
    • Offer the opportunity to swap/shoot his "rubbish back of the cabinet clay gun from back in the day" over anything I bring for the session

Laughs aside, a fun day with great company, shooting some blue cartridges (OF had red ones, @TIGHTCHOKEcan be relieved to hear) and shooting with some really good instruction.

I just wanted to publicly thank OF for his hospitality more than anything. A gentleman, great company, and beautiful hardware (take that as you like!), and I hope to return the favour for a shoot on the mainland when he pops over next!

Any knife could be construed as a threat to another human. Where do you draw the line short of handing in your cutlery drawer?

    Absolutely, I agree.

If I were taking in knives and someone said "I feel these could be a risk", I wouldn't draw the line anywhere.

Not sure I understand that! Haven’t you just contradicted yourself there?

I've re-written a reply several times to you. None made good sense, and yes I can see how it sounded contradictory.

A knife as it is doesn't make it a weapon, or dangerous. But intent changes everything.

That's probably as close to my thoughts as it gets.

I am always surprised/disappointed at these "Can you help me" threads.

Genuine people offer their help as requested and it never seems to go anywhere.  :w00t:

Why ask in the first place if you are not going to take the offer/s up?  :cool1:

To be fair I've been out with one chap from here, and I am going to the island this weekend to shoot with someone else.

Genuinely I was touched by the kindness of fellow shooters :)

Interesting thread, I had the impression that tourniquets had fallen out of favour and been replaced by compression bandages.

There's some amazing things out, from israeli, to russell chest seals, to haemostatic dressings which are the nuts!

As for tourniquets, when you need one.... nothing else will work. You'll know when you need one!

I'm go with current taught practice, no offence taken pal.🙂

My knowledge is from a CMT1 in the forces(so clearly not aimed at joe bloggs in the street) and as you say there are caveats you touch upon which I should of put on my original post.

Good job! Also yes, the forces work differently and often due to distance/time it'll take to get to base etc. I'm hoping your skills are rusty from lack of requirement to use, and long may that be the case!

    I think there’s a cigar cutter on there also🙄

You've seen the movies, that can be a nasty little finger cutter

They may be legal, doesn't mean they haven't been used to stab someone.

Exactly. The scheme is not to remove dangerous weapons. It's to remove any knife that people feel may be a threat to another human. It's a weapons amnesty, in the form of knives.

The general guidance is bang a CAT-T on, then the bandages....over 10 mins release the CAT and check for bleeding out(more than likely unless you're the character Wolverine).

I just want to say a massive NO THAT IS WRONG to this based on current thinking.

Once a CAT is on, you leave it. You NEVER take it off. You put a note on it to when you applied it, but you do NOT take it off.

Older thinking was to release and reapply to prevent toxic shock. Only allow the hospital to do this, DO NOT TAKE IT OFF. All you are going to do is remove even more blood from the system. You're best off saving a life and losing a limb, than losing a life from loss of blood. A CAT is applied due to a catastrophic bleed, the word catastrophic should emphasise.

You would have been right several years ago with that thinking, but Police, ambo, firearms etc (and even my meagre St Johns 3 day first aid at work course) say do not remove it. The only time (and assuming you've not done it on a joint) you look at it not working, is when you apply a second CAT, above the first.

Please don't remove a CAT. I have sadly seen people die roadside from this old school thinking.

Again, Hicky, not having a go. Current best practice is put it on and leave it on. There are a few weird exceptions, mostly for medical professionals, around travel time to a hospital and what other injuries there are. As I would assume most people are within an hour of treatment rooms and not days away from climbing, it's easier to just say leave it on unless directed by a doctor.

    Leave it on
    Call all the nines
    Hope they get there PDQ
