  1. No I have not but, I certainly believe it now. The gunsmith was convinced it was catching on the snapcaps. And seemed not to take into account the very evident gouge in the closing face of the barrel. To be honest at this point I am not sure exactly what they have changed and what not. But I think you are on to something the bottom firing pin definitely sits more proud.
  2. I have had a bit of trouble with my over and under recently and it's had 4 visits to the gun Smith. The last time I picked it up from the gunsmith I got home put stap caps in it and released the springs. When I got to my next shoot I opened the gun to take the snap caps out and it got stuck closed. I did manage to open it with some gentle force and it shot fine. When I got home and started cleaning the gun I noticed the bottom firing pin sticking out more than usual and a small chunk of metal missing in the closing face of the bottom barrel. This is when I realised the barrels are catching the bottom firing pin when i close the gun. Obviously this only happens when I have used snap caps to unload the springs. This has never been an issue before so I went to the gunsmith this morning and their opinion is that this is caused by snap caps and I should put them in the bin. And always leave the gun cocked. So basically now I can't open or close the gun if the springs are not cocked. Does this seem correct ?

    New users to PW ?

Oh is this something new ? When I created an account I had to wait for a moderator to approve the account at least that's what it said on my end. And then after about 12 hours I got approval and full access.
  4. Is PW currently accepting new users? I have a friend who created an account months ago and it still has not been approved by the moderators ?

Oh it is totally ridiculous, it's a rot that once it sets in it only gets worse. The thing is we are not contractually obliged to wear the uniform because that in itself might upset someone. So you end up in this wishy washy situation kind of like lockdown rules. You can't wear flip flops to work but if you feel it's your right to do so then you can but if your naked toes offend someone then you can't but we can't enforce it so you can, but you should not, bla bla bla it's totally silly.

This was organised prior to the latest woke rules but is actually on hold with HR because the company branding that is embroidered on the uniform upset someone so it all has to be changed. I don't think the company I work for actually wants to support all this they are a ruthless corporation. I think it's all just a game to stay one step ahead of any potential law suits. I am sure they have crunched the numbers and found it's cheaper support woke and diversity than the payouts from law suits.

Engineering, multinational corporation. I think it won't be long until we all see some aspect of this in the workplace.

This has all just started at my work, Diversity quotas, woke, special ethnic focus groups. And the latest we can only wear plain shirts/t-shirts with no branding or slogans on them. Because it may offend someone. I think there are 2 types of organisation who get onboard with this, those who want to push this agenda and the rest feel they have to out of fear. It just becomes a witch hunt if someone points the finger at an organisation and they are not diverse or woke. Let alone the law suits from employees, it's very hard for a company to defend itself against one of these diversity/woke lawsuits.
  9. I have one and I like it allot. I bought mine second hand and it's a decent gun for the money. I use it for clays it shoots well, I had to replace a firing pin and I got the classic bettinsoli double discharged but new main springs put that right. I have had it apart and the internals are not as cleanly machined as more expensive guns. But it all works. I would say go for it, really nice gun.
  10. I just voiced my opinion on my own personal experience living there as a resident and getting a look behind the scenes. Unfortunately the lines between "rewilding" and canned hunting are blurred. Like I said there many reputable establishments that offer sustainable hunting. And that's fine but there are just as many terrible ones and that's where my problem with it lies. Profit and greed and then dressing it up to be a good cause. Anyway I am glad you had a good time out there
  11. Question all you like these things happen. Often the hunters who come from Europe America and Russia have more money than sense want to go and shoot big game with their posh guns. These are also the types who go an do these things knowing full well it's against the law. When they are standing behind the cage waiting for the animal to be let out, they are totally unprepared for what's coming. The lion bolts out the cage like a bat out of hell .Even a good shot would struggle with a heart shot. So all they do is try not to hit the head. Lions are tough and will take a good few bullets before they go down.
  12. It's a sad state of affairs in Africa regardless of point of view. It think when it comes to the hunting, damned if do damned if you don't kind of situation. And there are many willing to make money out of this. I gues for those doing things within the law and actually contributing to conservation and wildlife good on them. For those who are just filling their own pockets. With no regard for the animals and the local community shame on them. Speaking from my own experience a good 20 years ago there were certainly more cowboys offering canned hunting just for their own gain. I hope things have changed and things are better now.
  13. It is very possible and is quite common practice especially for inexperienced hunters. And on farms that have been converted from livestock to hunting. These farms are big and accessible on 4x4. The customers pay for a kill and the hosts will make sure it happens even if that means chasing them down in a truck. While there are many reputable and responsible hunting establishments. Most of them are not, it's a dirty business and they come up with all sorts of justifications like conservation and money to the local community. I'm sorry it's not, in my experience most of the money goes straight into the farmers already full bank account. While the local people are and environment is exploited.
  14. I personally sit on the fence with this one, I was lucky enough to grow up in Southern Africa. And I must say most of the trophy hunting in Africa by Europeans and Americans is absolutely disgusting when you get a look behind the scenes. But unfortunately we only get to see the trophy photo. I have been on one of these hunts as a helping hand and it consisted of chasing a herd of antelope through the bush in a land cruiser till one of the heard got tired and started falling behind and then the "hunter" can take a pot shot at the animal to claim his trophy. Shooting protected animals like lions is even worse they normally have the animal caged the hunter stands a safe distance behind the cage they open the cage and the hunter starts shooting. It is an awful thing to see because the lions in particular they dont want to shoot anywhere close to the head as not to ruin the trophy so they just pepper the lion with bullets in the body and it suffers a great deal before dieing. And in the case of shooting protected animals it costs allot of money because it's illegal and most of that money will go to the farmer who arranged it not back into the local community. Having said that I have no problem with trophy hunters who actually go out there with their gun on foot stalking animals that are legal to kill. Giving the animal half a chance of outsmarting the hunter.
  15. The emergency vets are a different practice they where very good and the next morning gave me back the cat and told me to take it back to my vets and have a stern chat with them as this should not have happened. In our town we have quite a few vets and they all stoped operating 24 hours. They all use the emergency vets as a hub for overnight care. I did go back to my vets fuming and guns blazing and their response was they where trying to save me money because an overnight stay would have cost me £600 I then told them the overnight stay I just payed for was £300. So I said which is it then they responded with sending me to they customer relations pr person. The real kicker is they don't have an ambulance so even if they would have sent my cat to the 24h vets after surgery I would have still had to pick up the cat and drive it there myself. It would have been a disaster if the episode would of happened in the car.
  16. This is absolutely true, medical care is not cheap. My biggest problem with vets is that they maximise profits and let the welfare of the animal slide. In my town none of the vets are open 24 hours to cut cost. This means that when my cat had major surgery 2 hours after the operation they called me to come pick him up. I had asked them are they sure this is ok they said it will be absolutely fine. I got home and within 2 min my can started attacking his surgery site he was in pain and disoriented from the anesthesia wearing off. I had to physically restrain him to rush him to an emergency vets. £150 just to walk in the door. By the time I got there I was covered in blood mine and his because he was attacking me to.
  17. I got stung by a vet £5000 for an uninsured cat that broke a leg had reconstructive surgery during the recovery period he escaped out of his carrier and bent all the metal pins in his leg. He then spent 8 months in a a cage with the hope that the bones will set. They did not so I then paid for an amputation thought that was the end of it but at this point he had lost his marbles and was a dangerous cat he had episodes with no warning where he would totally freak out to the point that he tore out his own claws. So after all that I had to put him down any way. I won't type out the whole story but the vets where negligent on multiple occasions. My second cat I then promptly insured and when she got poorly I took her to the vets they said she needed to go to a special vets in Cambridge for blood transfusions and special treatment. I told the vet NO we are putting her down because all that will happen is we will put the cat through hell trying to fix it and the end result will be death anyway. They where quite shocked and said oh but you have insurance. I said I am not doing this again. Now I don't have pets anymore because I don't want to deal with vets.
  18. Thank you all for your responses, this had nothing to do with being dishonest. And I do take my family's health above all. My guns are safe and I am the only one who has access to them and I don't keep any cartridges at home. I was just asking to see if it is something that would get picked up at my renewal so I know in advance. I will speak with my FEO before I get my GP to fill out the proforma
  19. Thanks for the info, Ill just have to wait and see I think.
  20. Hi all, A family member of mine who lives with me has recently started using the NHS mental health service. I have my renewal coming up soon and I am a bit worried. Does any one know if this is something my GP can comment on in the renewal form. Or are they only allowed to fill out the form with regards to my medical records? We both use the same GP so they will know we live at the same address.I would not be happy if I loose my guns over this.

  22. Thanks for the responses. I gave it a go and that worked, had to give it a good thump on the floor to switch over. Also managed to drop my snap caps onto my stock and gave it 2 dents 🙄 so frustrating. Just out of interest does anyone know why the u/o sequence does not require bump to the stock to switch the barrels ? Is the u/o sequence mechanically linked and the o/u sequence requires inertia from recoil to switch?
  23. Good morning all, I am new to the fourm and to shooting. I recently bought a bettinsoli and shortly after buying it I was having missfires on the bottom barrel. I took it back to the shop and it turns out the bottom firing pin was corroded so the gunsmith replaced it for me. When I got home I wanted to test that it's all in working order. I put my snap caps in and pulled the trigger and I got a click pulled the trigger again and another click. I had the barrel selector set to bottom barrel first then top. When I switched the barrel selector to top barrel first I can only fire the top barrel and nothing happens when I pull the trigger again. Is this normal? Is it the inertia trigger ? Why does it work when u/o is selected but not o/u?
