  1. I've often wondered if, when carrying say a shotgun on the way home from shooting, one is attacked and forced to defend oneself and shoots the attacker dead, it would be deemed reasonable minimum force. If the attacker clearly physically outmatches you, you need to use whatever weapon is at hand. But I wonder if it would be argued in court that you should have first used the gun to club the attacker rather than to immediately resort to lethal force.

Any paedos or other nutters here care to answer this? No?? OK, I watch Criminal Minds so I'll have a go myself. Practical reasons - Maybe only one child could be carried or transported. Maybe the person seen carrying a child was the abductor and knew they'd been seen so didn't want to take the risk of another trip into the room. Criminal mind reasons - Serial killers and serial sex attackers that plan their attacks generally stick to the same physical type of victim. Maybe a girl of Maddie's description was on someone's shopping list. Maybe she was seen in town and chosen as a target.

Yes they left their children alone. One of them is now missing and they will spend the rest of their lives suffering for it in one way or another. They do not deserve everything that they get because of an error of judgement, they do not deserve to never see their child again. I've read all his tosh about the McCanns' behaviour, 'swanning around Europe' etc. People seem to have a lot of opinion about what they shouldn't have done but I see no comments about what one should do when one of your kids disappears abroad. Sit home by the phone, cuddling the missus and having a nice cup of tea to calm the nerves? Hoping the superbly professional Portuguese police find her? Yeah, that'll get her back won't it? Do me a favour.

    Mounts

I was having a problem with the 2 piece 'free' mounts I got with my 3-9x40 scope slipping on the rail of my BSA Supersport. I replaced them with a one piece Sportsmatch mount which was fine but because I mainly shoot over very short range for ratting I replaced my scope with a Nikko 2-7x32 AO scope that copes with the short range better. I was chuffed with the improvement in accuracy at first. However, the scope came with a one piece mount and that has started slipping. It's clearly not up to Sportsmatch quality but I can't use the one piece Sportsmatch mount on that scope because the scope is shorter and the Sportsmatch mount is longer than the Nikko one so I can't get the scope in the right position relative to my eye. So, my question is, can I get a shorter decent quality one-piece mount or are they a standard size? Would a set of good quality 2 piece mounts do the job? I'm already considering getting a BSA Scorpion because it can be made quieter than the Supersport and if I'm going to spend a small fortune on trying out mounts on the Supersport I'm even more tempted to take the PCP route. Cheers Paul

I think Gerry and Kate McCann were clutching at any straw they could to try to get their daughter back. As for the media exposure, well once you've let that genie out of the bottle you aren't in control anymore and you can either back away or try to go with it. The McCanns went with it. My wife and I lost our first son, he was stillborn at full term. My wife was in bits for more than a year. I had to do all the dealing with people, arranging the funeral etc. Because I had to do all that, I bottled all the emotion up inside me and pulled the shutters down. That's the look I see on the McCanns' faces. Just bite the bullet and go forward. Except, of course, that there is no end in sight and there may never be an end to it for them. I wouldn't mind betting that this pushes them apart, one or both of them is blaming themself or blaming the other for leaving their children alone that evening so I wouldn't be surprised if there is a degree of guilt gnawing away though probably not for the reason that a lot of people want to think.

I have wondered why the person seen carrying a small child wrapped in a blanket by the McCanns' friend hasn't come forward to say 'That was probably me with my daughter.' Of course, the McCanns' friend was probably lying as they are part of the same wicked crowd For what it's worth, I think that child was probably Maddie and she was probably snatched to order either by some sickos or for someone desperate for a child. I hope it's the latter but as she would have become too hot to handle, I believe she's probably dead either way. It astounds me that people are so willing to believe that parents would coldly dispose of their daughter following an accidental death. What kind of people are these to believe normal parents would do such a thing? Leaving a child unattended is a selfish thing to do but it is rife and doesn't necessarily imply a lack if love for the child. But it's a long way beyond selfish to the degree of wickedness needed to stash and later dump your child's body rather than have to explain how she met an accidental death.

What is it you don't like about the McCanns and how do you feel you would react in the circumstances? If my child disappeared, I would hope I wouldn't collapse into a sobbing mess and would try to do something constructive to speed the child's return, as the McCanns did. I would likewise hope a pair of doctors would take positive action and stay calm in a difficult situation. On the one hand you talk about the same thing happening to some other unfortunate parents, implying the McCanns are unfortunate parents, and on the other you are saying you don't like the McCanns and that it stunk from the beginning, implying that you believe them guilty in some way. If the police had strong evidence against the McCanns, they would be in custody. The fact that the police are looking through diaries to give evidence of state of mind suggests their case is thin. If they really had corpse juice in the McCanns motor, that's damning evidence of wrongdoing even if it doesn't belong to Maddie. Why have the McCanns still got the car if it contains crucial evidence? Now the backdoor reports are saying that the police don't have any concrete evidence at all against the McCanns. Surprise, surprise. So they've indulged in a whispering campaign to set them up, all this nonsense about the body beind dumped off a British yacht. Obviously us Brits think nothing of disposing of our children's corpses, shallow grave, burial at sea, it's all the same to us and any passing Brit with a yacht will gladly help out. Where is the McCanns oportunity for disposing of their daughter? They had about an hour for the girl to die and be disposed of. That seems a little bit tight to me. It strikes me that the police have got nowhere with this case and need to get the parents into court, no matter what the verdict, because as you say Dave, parents in the resort are afraid for their children. A child abductor on the loose is bad for business but wicked British parents disposing of their own child isn't.
  10. No. I once got involved in a mild bit of everyday flirtation with a younger woman at work. She wanted it to progress in a 'physical' direction but I wanted none of that. When I backed away, I found she was a mentalist. She came to my desk and demanded, in that cross between a whisper and a shout that women do, to know who the hell I thought I was leading her on and dumping her. Everyone in the office was gawping at us. She told people we had been having an affair but that I had just been using her. It was terrible and I was mortified. It turned out that doing her job was also a fantasy and she had been spending her days on the phone to her mates, so she got sacked. I was dreading getting dragged into it but it seems that was an everyday situation for her and she quietly went away. Never again.

  13. Forget about football a pointless game if you ask me. Try watching sky 1 at the moment- intersting programme on at the moment regarding tranny prostitutes in Amsterdam I'll give that a miss I think, I have it on DVD already. I used to work with a bloke who denounced every sport but football with the statement, 'If it doesn't involve kicking a ball it's not a real sport.' Track and field, motor racing, swimming etc all written off with the contemptuous wave of a hand.

    Worst songs

I'm new here but this thread tells me that after many years online the purchase of an air rifle has led me to my spiritual home.
  15. Thanks for the welcomes guys. Did you notice the prejudicial term used in the paper about the hair found in the car? A 'mass' of hair implies a big clump. There maybe a lot but I bet it's not a clump. I think if the police felt they had really strong evidence, the McCanns would be banged up by now. I really cannot imagine a pair of loving parents picking up their child's dead body after an innocent accident and coldly disposing of it. I doubt many people here have had the experience of holding their own child's lifeless body in their arms but I have and the idea that any parent could do such a thing as stash the body and go for dinner defies my comprehension, so I don't believe it. However I will observe that we don't know what goes on behind the closed doors of anyone's house and the facade of a loving family home often hides violence and abuse perpetuated by one partner and covered up by the other. Sometimes violent outbursts lead to unintended deaths that can't be explained away as innocent accident. In such cases established patterns of covering up may be returned to. Anyway, I'm not worried about the McCanns for the moment as I ordered a scope today and I can't wait for it to arrive. Any large rodents visitng my garden at the weekend will certainly be disposed of with extreme prejudice and malice aforethought!
  16. The idea that one of the McCanns accidentally killed their daughter and then the other agreed to cover it up seems extremely far fetched to me. I really can't imagine my wife telling me that she had accidentally killed our three year old and me saying, 'Not to worry, let's stash him for a while till we get a chance to stick him in a shallow grave somewhere. If we're quick, we can still make dinner and the quiz.' The time frame for this was about an hour, I believe Maddie was seen alive by non family at around 7 and her parents went out at 8 or so. That's not much time to kill your child, deal with immediate horror of it, get your partner onside, come up with a plan, stash a corpse, get washed and dress and go down to dinner with a smile on your face. Unless of course it was no accident and it was all planned and prepared with Hollywood style meticulous attention to detail. We have no knowledge at all of what evidence exists in this case, all we have are rumours put out by the police or the McCann supporters. I read all this rubbish today about Kate McCann being an aggressive and violent mother because neighbours at the apartment had heard her losing her rag and Maddie crying for her daddy. Well, this morning my little boy wouldn't let me get him washed before I went to work and I shouted at him in exasperation. He started wailing for his mum. I very much doubt my neighbours assumed I was going to do away with him. The police say Kate McCann was unco-operative and had aggressive outbursts. Well I don't blame her, I think I'd be like that if I was being browbeaten into a confession. People don't like the McCanns because they are impassive (it's their job to be so), they are wicked parents for leaving their children alone (it happens ALL the time. I've seen loving parents do it at family events in hotels, though probably never again) because of tales that the police and media have made up (who says the kids were sedated?) or maybe for class reasons. Those who introduce Shipman et al as examples are talking nonsense. Shipman was a serial killer, Allitt was a mad spree killer and Huntley had a long record for sex and violence to children. Yes the stats say that mothers murder their babies or that parents abuse their children to death. I'm not aware of a case where two parents accidentally killed their child on holiday, hid the body, launched a worldwide campaign to find her and in the midst of it moved the corpse to it's final resting place.
  17. I have a BSA Supersport and, based on online reviews and my own limited experience, I would recommend it for your purposes. I bought it with a scope from uttings.com for about £190. Having said that, the imminent ban on mail order is making me consider the purchase of a BSA Scorpion as that was the gun I would have liked but couldn't afford when I bought the Supersport. I still can't afford it but I can justify the purchase to myself as I'd have to pay a small fortune extra for it in a face to face purchase after the ban .
  18. Hi I'm a newbie here and purchased a Supersport a few months ago to 'deal with' some rats who had been visiting my garden. I hadn't fired an airgun since my early teens, 20 some years ago. I found the gun accurate straight out of the box without the scope. I'm only shooting at short ranges of 12 metres but with the scope it's far more accurate than I yet am. However, at the weekend my shots started to go ever higher and slightly right. After cursing myself for my poor shooting I found that the scope mounts had slipped gradually due to recoil. In fact the rear mount had slipped far enough that it was slightly chewed up by the taper at the rear of the rail on the rifle. So, I suggest that you check your scope mounts are well tightened as the kick of the rifle will cause them to move and make your shots stray.
