JamesLeic
Hi i have a 2 1/2 chamber 12 guage shotgun (65mm) and am looking for a good cartridge for wildfowling (as im hopeing to start very soon) can anyone recommend any good ones? i know they need to be non toxic due to current legislation and since all my experience is with lead i thought id ask the forum... Id prefer non steel rounds as since my shotgun is old (and i beleive not proofed for them) im guessing it wont like them very much maybe bismuth... i eagerly await your replys
Tobyb525
I'm no expert but I suspect youl have trouble finding any heavy cartridges under 2 3/4 Edited September 30, 2009 by Tobyb525
MC
You best and probably only bet will be Eley Bismuth cartridges and I believe the maximum cartridge is probably the one for you. Express Hevi shot used to come in a 28gr 2 1/2" cartridge and you could buy them in packs of 10.

busbiter
Looks as though part of the new eley bismuth range they do produce a true 65mm case making these suitable for your gun james. Getting hold of them may be hard though as sure most dealers will still have the old bismuth products in stock. I am sure Impax, Grand Prix and Maximum's are suitable for a 2 1/2 inch chamber gun although the cases will be 67mm in length. Sprinter
Currently shooting 32g eley hv bismuth (67mm case - stated on the box for 2 1/2" chambered guns) out of my 2 1/2" chambered game gun. I would have preferred some eley impax 28.5g bismuth but couldn't get hold of them when needed. Having said that i probably will only shoot 2 or 3 of these carts per shoot. ie last time out ducks over, nice left and right gun almost back in the case as they were bouncing on the drilling. Guest cookoff013
started waterfowling last year, i bought 200 or so bismuth cartridges. i got some at a real bargain price. i got some 34g #4bi suitable for 2,1/2" and a light 28g #5 for the same chamber. i`m currently looking to reload some non tox. just because the prices are astrinomical. if you give us a yell next season we could work out a load to suit your 2,1/2" . (bismuth !) currently i`m trying to make a good load for big honkers. Edited October 4, 2009 by cookoff013
Whitebridges
The Eley Maximum 2 and a half inch 34g loaded with Bismuth Forest 4 shot (3.1mm) work well on duck to 30 - 35 yards. Buy yourself a few hevishot to try. They are excellent.
