  1. Seconded however they also do a custom fitting service if you dont want to wait for a full custom boot and that can be done by appointment on the day and they will steam the boot to your foot taking into account bunions or any other nasty's you may have all their boots have a refitting service have a look at their website (just type altberg in google) specifically i would recommend their warrior mark 2 boot, very flexible and cosy. Also Bridgedale socks are excellent aswell as far as socks go.

    pcp or not

Id second the above comments the pcp's are a world apart from the springers and deffinately worth it - i would also add the potential for quick follow up shots (no pulling levers etc just a very quick cock that can be done with finger and thumb and is only an inch or two of movement not disturbing your fireing position at all). Deffinately worth it in my opinion and i would also deffinately recommend the rapid 7's as an excellent shoice
  3. Ok personal opinion: i personally would put them in storage at an rfd and notify the police if i needed medicating, however this is a personal choice i would never tell or ask another person to do so (unless ofcourse they exibited behaviour that showed them to be dangerous which is another story entirely). As i said its a personal choice and so are the conseqeunces if plod on renewal think he should have notified them he may well lose his certificate permenantly if you are asking as you are his friend i would advise him he might want to consider it because "you have heard the police can be a bit tetchy if you dont notify them if you go on medication" and that they might take his certificate away if he doesnt just as friendly advise like any good friend would give. if you are not on this level (of friendship) id say you need to keep an eye on him certainly but ultimately leave him be to make his own mistake (ie not notifiying) or not as he so chooses its a difficult one but ultimate boils down to do you honestly believe he may be a danger to himself or others? (if you do you need to take action if your not sure i would leave abit of time and make up your mind from observation, he may get better or worse making your decision easier)
  4. Get a mate or friend of a friend who is a special or regular copper and get him into fishing or encourage him to fish on your lakes by taking him out a few times, his powers of arrest are 24-7 on or off duty so if he happens to witness any of it he can nick them on the spot once word gets round theirs a copper on the lake/river i think they will find somewhere else to poach
  5. 12g side by side, or a brocock safari SCAC in 22 with a moderator for roost shooting. *Edited for my chav like lack of spelling ability
  6. Pattern it in the prone (as in laying down like you were when you shot the rabbits) and look for holes in your pattern - if there are holes change to a different cartridge to find one that doesnt have any but the shot size at that range isnt the problem there maybe a hole in the pattern (laying down will change how the gun will pattern).
  7. Thanks for clearing that up doc glad i asked now before assumeing the worst
  8. Thats the key every shotgun and person will pattern differently with different cartridges the best thing to do is pattern it yourself but a usefull rule is the greater the weight of shot the looser the pattern tends to get also the larger the shot size the looser the pattern tends to get. for shooting birds generally 7.5 - 5's are the shot sizes used and as has been pointed out before 6's are what most of the name brands are using so i would say would be a good place to start offering a good balance between energy (not so much that it will destroy the meat)and pattern density. For game most start from a 6 for rabbit and then it depends what the largest animal your likely to shoot is hare?, Fox? etc in conclusion i usually load shot size 6 with 5 as a back up if i want slightly more punch (and incidently my gun likes lyalvale express supreme game 32g 6's and hull three crown 30g 5's - it is cylinder and improved cylinder choke)
  9. Maybe im being stupid here as well but whats with the im with stupid sign yickdaz?? looked a reasonable post.... that cosd had made
  10. Norica Dragon 800fps at 50m with 16gr (at 30ft lbs near as damn it) I dont see the point if your going fac air id go for a pcp where you can adjust the power otherwise i dont see the advantage of a cheapo springer being made to push 30ftlbs (its not going to be exactly brilliantly made - incidently if you are going to push it to that level why not use a theoben gas ram - its more consistent and better in my opinion) over a 22rf or 17 hmr.
  11. The size of the round doesnt bother me (if its pest control they dont really care about meat damage do they) and i beleive that is BASC's stance aswell as they have said before its not the calibre itself thats inheirently dangerous and theirs no such thing as too much gun its all about how its used. A 50 cal requires a decent backstop as it can penetrate an unbeleivable amount of material before it stops (thats why the army use them to destroy vehicles or as "anti material" as they like to say) any rifle (centre or rimfire) into a wood with no visible backstop is appaling, a large calibre that could go through several trees even if it did hit them and still keep going is just plane ludicrous they dont belong near a gun based on that video its at times like this i sympathise with that make getting a gun so difficult over here we have the most densely populated nation in europe just imagine what a couple of those nutcases could do...
  12. Id recommend 7mm-08 here's why: http://www.hornady.com/store/7mm-08-Rem-13...-superformance/ against the 308 http://www.hornady.com/store/308-Win-150-gr-SST/ because the bullets have better balistic coeffients it gets there faster and with more energy at 300+ yards (see the above) within 300 it will do the job just aswell with over 2000ftlbs at 200 and 2686ftlbs at the muzzle (see the above) it is flatter shooting (see the above) Its recoil is substancially less Its cheap to reload as its a very brass friendly cartridge (meaning you can reload the same cartridge a fair few times)
  13. I know what your saying but the kind of "nudge" you do for that and whats in the vid is different or appeared so to me maybe i am being a little sensitive here, a 50 cal into a tree line still seems wrong tho
  14. No respect for quarry did you see him kick the deer in the head to make sure it was dead - disgusting what some of our american cousins can get away with. shooting using a "wood" as a backstop was pretty special too - how can they be sure that was safe??! especially with a 50 cal (it would comfortably travel through several trees) its all well saying well they may have known no one was "supposed" to be there but supposed to be there and actually being there is a different story they couldnt be sure they should have been using a high seat or elevation of some discription - sorry rant over but seeing these kinds of things annoy me
  15. Spot on it only come into effect if: "It is an offence under the Highways Act 1980 s 161(2) to light any fire on or over a carriageway, or discharge any firearm or firework within 50 feet of the centre of a highway which is a carriageway, with the consequence that a user of the carriageway is injured, interrupted or endangered" ergo i would stay 50ft away if *** (you may have a resident anti who knows the law) if not then that still doesnt make it illegal as long as no one on the carriageway is "interrupted" ie alarmed distressed etc etc
  16. yeah they (bb's) seem to be the shot size of choice amongst most people, im on the look out for a standby cartridge for foxes rather than my usual loads, looking at getting some hull triplecrown buckshot 31g AAA's as im using a 65mm gun so am abit limited cartridge wise. ******edited got my facts and figures mixed up now looking at hulmax 34g 3's much better , cant beleive i missed them (now i just have to see how they pattern)
  17. agreed although i tend to use two  Lyalvale Supreme Game 32g 6's, Hull Three Crown's 30g 5's - my standby fox round is going to be threecrowns buckshot 31g AAA when i can save up enough to buy some (getting married in august)
  18. they are my personal favourite aswell the other is Hull Cartidges 30g 5's but my shotty has a deffinate preference for the Supreme Game's
  19. Good job  Out of interest what carts were you using? as i know theres alot of different opinions on this and i like to keep track of what people are loading with when deliberately going for fox's (as opposed to catching them with the 5's or 6's they have in their gun on their shoot)
  20. If you get some digital ear defenders they will block the bad noises (gun blasts and other loud noises above a certain no. of decibels that will damge your hearing) and amplify the background ones (people speaking etc) I get tested for my hearing regularly and shoot (and use explosives) in the TA and shoot in my spare time and i have no problems at all get some mate you wont regret it.
