robmiller
While waiting to construct something to go on top of a car, i have to make do with a rather large hand held lamp from B and q. Am looking to get my hands on some red filter paper to make something to fit over the top? Can anyone help at all? Thanks Rob
pavman
had a similar problem wanting to dull down a fog lamp for going round fileds on the quad, just enough to see the way type of thing... I found a plastic A4 letter pouch in the £ shop tinged red so just cut out required shape and fixed over the lens, worked a treat
All Day Bing
Art shops sell coloured transparencies A4 upwards. Also shops that sell wrapping paper and ridiculously expensive hand-made cards, boxes and the like do rolls of transparent red film used for double wrapping presents - and dulling down fog lamps. verminer
do you have any shops nearby that supply theatre's with lighting etc, or if you have a theatre ask them where they get their lighting filters from as they are designed to with-stand the heat from the bulbs, they may even give you a spare piece
Tin Man Work
I find that the usual red filters for lamps are too thick and drop the beam power too much - the fix is a disc of perspex with some red cellophane sheet fitted to the lamp. This gives a stronger beam that is red and works fine. The cellophane I got from the E**y auction site for peanuts.
smiiithy
I looked in a load of shops in Newcastle and couldn't find any acetate but was looking in the wrong places really. Somebody was kind enough to post me some but just the size for a small torch so won't do for your lamp. Arty and Crafty will be handy for you; I'd imagine they have some. It's near Grainger Games on Whitley Road, Benton. John_R
If you have a stage or theatre lighting shop near you, or even a disco shop they'll have many shades of red gel.
clueless1
YOu can get red gell sheets on the 'bay, seem a bit pricy but that could be because I don't know how much they usually cost. As an asside; if you were to cover a torch with a red gell, would rats be able to see the light at night? Just a thought.

linny
you can buy light fillters from as mentioned disco equipment shops it will not melt or warp as it is heat treated you can get it in a big sheet and just cut it down it also is very thin so lets lots of light through
slingshot
you probably have something sorted by now but just in case i will tell what i use CAR LENS REPAIR TAPE works for me can be got at most motor factors usually in a pack of three 1 x clear 1 x amber 1 x red and i know not everyone drives but for those of us that do its good to keep in the glove box just in case so isn't wasted when you only use a little on your lamp
