snipe
Try this man, he is a gentleman and if he can't help you himself, he will try to put you in touch with someone who can. His prices are level with, if not better than the people who breed from his pups and sell them as potential gundogs. http://www.maesydderwencockers.webeden.co.uk/ 100% agreed langlands, superb dogs and a superb trainer - very helpful and gives great advice to beginners. Went to see him a couple of times, his dogs were just awesome!! My vote would be for a cocker every time, but then they suit what I do and the type of cover I work. Had a springer before, and whilst I had a lot of fun with her they just don't come close the cocker. There's something special about them, their characters are superb. I would never go back to a springer after owning a cocker. I found them quite similar to train. Get the basics right and earn their respect and you're on the right track. Snipe. cracker
...when i'm shooting on walked up days they love water and i take mine wildfowling on the coast to see a small cocker retreive a canada goose over the mud flats is a wouderfull sight, great little dogs im' hooked and will allways stick with the cockers I do a bit of fowling too and I am looking to get a cocker next year. I wondered if a cocker would manage to retrieve a canada. I have seen a springer retrieve a couple off the mud. Cocker this, springer that --when it comes to retrieving, whatever the circumstances, you could always put in for the plough horse amongst spaniels MG

cracker
Why not? Here's a "fish-eye" from inside the hide and the "other" retrieving spaniel--not a cocker, not a springer--bulling her way home along with a spot of fair play for the Labs, not letting go of the goods MG

snipe
Thought I'd add a couple of pics of my cocker to the mix. She's just coming up to 2 years old and I couldn't be happier with her. With a bit more experience she'll be firing on all cylinders. She loved the snow!! Snipe.
