docholiday
Well we have been planning a real hit on our Doe population and have planned a group outing this weekend, Typical it looks like being really wet and worse windy, 5 of us are getting out friday night sat and sun as the estate owners are away and we felt it was a good chance to get our cull numbers up without disturbing them, now I dont like the rain but it doesnt seem to bother the fallow to much but they really dont like the wind so how lucky we will be waits to be seen, so if any of you are tucked up on the sofa tonight or tomorrow with a good woman and a hot chocolate, spare a thought for us lunatics. wish we had planned a wildfowling trip instead, it will be a cracker on the South coast. Peter De La Mare
I don't envy you being out today in the slightest. The weather yesterday, and particularly this morning, is pretty rotten I must say. Tomorrow looks good though.
docholiday
well That wasnt so bad, due to **** law etc didnt get down early enough on friday so met up with the team for dinner and a few drinks then out 5 am sat morning, blowing a bit but we stayed dry, The old high seat was swaying a bit and I wasnt sure I would be able to take a shot, however no animals offered themselves to me so not a problem, we managed a fallow between us. after a good old chin wag we went for the full breakfast at one of the guys house, fantastic Haggis, black pudding the works, a little larder work and a snooze and we were back out again turned into a beautifull evening, I had three deer in front of me but it was at last light and I couldnt be 100% certain if it was a small fallow or a roe, as we have agreed to leave the roe alone to try and get a few more on the estate it was left to go on its merry way. They were just out from the tree line in the second photo at the end of the moderator, it was really difficult to see them 100%, thinking about them afterwards i am sure now they were Fallow and I could have shot one safely, but I really didnt want to take on the temper of the boss and be laughed at for the next few years !! jpg] no others shot that night. next day ( sunday AM) was bright with gentle winds, back up in a different high seat at 5.00am as I was going down the valley to the high seat glassed a dark patch in the very dark morning, spent the next 15 mins stalking a large clump of gorse !!, anyway after a couple of hours in the high seat and knowing that the others had managed another two fallow I headed off to the woods for a stalk, see next post Edited November 16, 2009 by docholiday
docholiday
It was very muddy so easy to find lots of these, so I spent a very enjoyable hour or two stalking around the woods, but difficult as it was so wet my wellies kept making gurggling sounds every time I lifted my foot. we all met up for another mega breakfast and sorted out the animals and as you can see did a pretty good job of filling the larder, i hadnt contributed any but in view of the forcasts we all had a great couple of days. . Hope you enjoy the pics and glad I went as I had considered staying home with the forecast. Doc
