ollie
My 6 month old springer is really starting to come on and is showing real potential. The only thing is going shooting and going home after the dog does not want to go back into the boot of the car. Any tips? I don't want to have to lift it in and out of the boot for the next 10 years or so.
davie mac
ollie, try putting some food in the boot,it might make the dog jump in to get it, and it will assicoate the boot with something it likes.
mayfly36
Thats normal, he will come round, throw a toy or a dummy in, but dont despair it will happen, he will associate the boot with getting out hunting and will be bouncing in and out. stokie
My lab used to be travel sick and was terrified of the car . You need to break it in gently Sit in the boot yourself and encourage it in with a toy of its own . As said before feed it in the boot for a couple of days , anything to associate the boot with being a nice familiar place will do the trick . Now my lab will jump in the car and the landy as soon as there is a door open .
UKPoacher
My springer is 6 and still hates travelling in the car even when she knows we are going hunting / fishing / home. When I got her at 18 months she was sick and voided in the car every time we took her out. It took three months to stop her being sick even on short journeys. Four years on and she'll still try and avoid travelling. Once she's in she lays down and never lifts her head.
davecooper1
Mine never like getting in the boot, then one day I was eating a bag of crisp, gave the dog one and threw one in the boot, never looked back since.
ollie
Cheers for the advice I was thinking of trying to give her a biscuit or sthing every time she gets into the boot and hopefully she'll recognise it as a reward (as if hunting wasn't enough ). robc89
my lab has nvr been travel sick atall and has spent alot of time in the car, trouble was cos he was small he wud b on fornt seat of the van as i had a bulkhead seperating the bak. Then in the car he wud not like the boot at all, i sort of narrowed it down to the fact he hated the actual boot being closed, iw asnt slamming it was just closing it properly. So for the passed month iv been praising the hell out of him everytime he gets in the boot and then i close the boot real slowly. now he jumps in the boot no problem!
