I was aiming to find a cartridge that would cycle through my hatsan, it seems that length is more important than load,I appreciate that 3ins carts are over top for pigeon and 2.3/4 would be the better option, just wondering what the prices are.

2 3/4" cartridges will cycle correctly in your Escort and will be a heck load cheaper than magnum loads!

30-32gms of 6 shot is ample for pigeon and as for manufacturer-they're all much the same as the rest.Kent Velocitys are cheap and do the job though.

Sell it, and by a better make Semi automatic. - Seems like you've got one of the 'troubled' Escorts.

try these:

select the 32g 70mm (plastic or fibre, I use fibre always) and I bet you'll be better.

Just buy a few at first to try.

or for more power/gas recoil at a cheap price (steel) try these:

32gram

EDIT: failing that, take the gun back and tell them it's unfit for purpose and get your money back.

Are there any reasonably priced 3ins carts for general use (Pigeon).

I personally prefer RC 50's or saga 50g in 3's for pigeon. For pheasants I think you can't beat the new Italian loaded Remington heavy lead in 3 1/2".....They do a 2 1/4 oz load in 5's. They come in packet's of 10 which look nice and are quite well priced too.

I was worried about smashing the birds about using these loads, but I was told if you aim off center, your target envelopes the outer extremities of your pattern still giving you a clean kill without too much messing up of the meat. To consciously aim off center, I found the best way to do it was work with an opposite cast. Me being a left hander, I shimed my gun over to the right, that way you still aim on target but in fact you are shooting to the right thus enveloping the edge of the pattern. Daft, but it works!!!!

I used Hull Speicel Pigeon 70mm 6 and found them to be ideal for my Escort, shot a good amount though gun today and never it missed a beat.It is corect to say that it's the lenght of cartridge and not the load in Hatsans that matter if you don't want it to keep jamming.

Both really.

70mm cartridges are the minimum Hatsan recomend, but they also claim 24gm will cycle-which is a bit optomistic.Because they're gas operated they need a certain amount of pressure to make it cycle, but the most important thing is to clean the gas vents everytime you get back.

Mine is really just a pigeon gun and gets 32gm 6's through it with no problems cos i keep it clean. They do seem to be a Marmite gun though where you either love em' or hate em'.
