Cookiemonsterandmerlin.
I would go for golf that the chap will be selling in early 2010 5k yes over your bugdet maybe. But buy a older one for £3 to £3 1/2k and I can gurantee you spend £1500 on somethink in a year. Just my thought smiiithy Oth

dodeer
What about Audi A4 tdi? Cracking cars and can cope with sky high miles. Found insurance was cheapeer than a golf when i was looking.
ME
I had a MK4 GTI golf and was disappointed by it. It wasnt fun to drive, despite the hot hatch name given to earlier Golf GTIs. I would look at a less trendy car (i.e. one not owned by a string of boy racers) with FSH, one or two owners and low mileage.
coupe312
he gti was a bit of a let down. but if you want a oil burner there the pick of the bunch. only down point is insurance is high for them

smiiithy
He doesn't know where I live because he gave me the enitre V5. He didn't even count the cash so I could have done a sly one there, not that I would of course
smiiithy
I've only had 2 or 3 days driving out the Golf so far, by the time I got my cover note through and tax sorted it was nearly Christmas. Decided to take it off the road since the clutch has started slipping . Getting it replaced on the 4th costing £50 for the clutch kit, £30 for the slave cylinder and £100 in labour. Lets hope there’s some stress free motoring to come once it’s fixed and I can put the Clio up for sale
