grumpy gouse
Hi Cranfield, Yes she is my dog a tiny lab in the name of maggie. I wouldnt normally send her for a bird during a drive (as i like to let the guns dogs work a little after the drive)however this was a pricked bird which was running towards the wood and Maggie had obviously marked it. Frenchieboy
What a brilliant little Lab. She doesn't waste any time does she!
v-max
Nice but she must be hard mouthed as that bird was dead when she came back. The key to picking up is to mark the wounded/hard pricked stuff & pick them ASAP. If the gun has a dog then leasve the dead stuff for him unless its able to pick his wounded birds but thats not normal so the picker up picks them as these birds need to picked ASAP. grumpy gouse
Thanks for the advice v-max however although she is far from perfect, the one thing i can say about her is she is soft mouthed. This bird was well shot and made a little movement towards the wood, the guns had not seen it so i sent my dog. i am fully aware the protocol of picking up, i have been doing it for over 30 years. I thought i would show the vid as i thought it might interest some people. I wont bother again if i am going to get informed of my dogs faults and told how to pick up. robc89
o god its endless isnt it, some people on here give the impression that shooting and activities based around shooting are full of complete and utter p-ricks! Always know better, always first to point out any mistakes and always behind a computer screen!! Great vid mate keep em coming, hopefully one day ill be able train my dog to do something along the same lines!!!
