JA3llis
Just a bit of advice DONT put copper slip on the battery terminals. Its not a good idea. Vasaline works perfect. It does sound like a new set ov leads is needed.
lister1
why not copper slip. its brilliant. i put it on mine always have. infact it even recomends it on the tub. copper is a great conducter and because it doesnt corrode it protects the battery terminals. Windy
The dash mounted voltmeter on my 'Trak doesnt work (always reads 0). Any ideas? Also, after start up there are two or three loud electrical clicks (sounds like a relay or switch), seems to come from the top of the off side wing (near battery) area......?? bignoel
yeah i thought something was wrong with mine as the clicks are loud enough to make you think something is wrong .check a fuse for your voltage reader only a idea .my rear wiper has packed up and not a fuse so a bit of head scratching for me lol

crazyfarmerboy
should be ok with a new battery but with experience with starters over 20 years old they are not worth reconditioning, get a new one, we have had a couple of starter reconditioned on tractors and they are just not the same as a brand new one, maybe other have had different experience, also you could get a hand held volt meter (£10) for a cheepie one, take a reading from battery when terminals off - will show power in battery, put terminals off and leave car off, test again to see if the car is draining the barrery while not in use (ie if the reading drops) then take reading with the engine running, if it drops from about 13-14v to 12v then the alternator is not charging the battery
