I believe that only the shooter can decide if it is right or not to take any particular shot. I have a firm belief when I am out with any gun - If there is any doubt do not take the safety catch off, "the quarry/target will be there for when the time is right". I'm sure some will disagree with this but I prefer to err on the side of safety and respect for my quarry.

Firstly - well done for thinking. So many people don't question their actions enough. We all owe it to wildlife welfare and our sport to do that.

In some areas they definitely need controlling - any nearby game will benefit. One fox can account for a lot of birds over a few months.

I tend to shoot them if I spot the foxes anywhere near where I know game is reared or if I know that anybody is experiencing problems with foxes taking their chickens etc.

If I'm in an area where there really is no game production or other vulnerable livestock then in general I only shoot the manky looking fozes.

The overwhelming factor is normally what the permission giver/land owner has asked you to do and not do. What's their thoughts on fox control in the area?

32g of No 6 is fine at that range and probably even a little more. But I always give them both barrels anyway, just to make sure. If I'm specifically looking for a fox then I'll use 42g BB carts - feels like a real gun when you pull the trigger too!

Good luck,

Steve

There's no harm in leaving it. We don't have to shoot everything we see.

Regarding another post though there is one rule I work to, and that is if anything's suffering I shoot it. If a land owner doesn't want Deer shot and I see a lame one I will shoot it anyway. Obviously they all know that as I've told them it's what I do. I've only had one say that they wouldn't be happy with that and I stopped shooting there. I don't believe in letting nature take it's course when I have the ability to end somethings suffering.

I have let foxes go ,once because I had a light load chambered and I had just got my sgc so there was the confidence thing too. You are the boss and you alone have to live with your decision and if the farmer is not bothered then you definitely should not bother. I always have some BB on me now but would be happy to shoot close in fox with 6.I shoot a sheep farm and the farmer wants them dead so I am happy to oblige. If you think you did the right thing then that is it. :good:
