Hi all just thought i would share a few pics of my new pup, shes a 9 week old gwpXgsp. As you can tell this pup looks a bit stunted for 9 weeks old,but it didnt get off to a very good start in life. The breeding was accidental and before i got the pup it was full of worms as per the norm and only getting fed twice a day.now shes been bathed, wormed and de flead and getting 4 good meals per day,her dish is filled up and she eats her fill.shes coming on a treat now,i got her on boxing day and have been sleeping on the sofa (not bloody funny)but i want to get the pup house trained ASAP 1st night was a pain pup woke up every couple of hours to pee so there i was out on the garden in just a jumper boxers and slippers lol.well ive had 6 nights on the sofa so far and shes been clean in the crate for 3 of them and she crys to go to the toilet so things are on the up

Beautiful looking pup, looks more GWP than GSP I'm sure your going to have a cracker there. As for sleeping on the couch I think you need to knock that on the head ASAP, its a dog not a baby, your sleep comes first not the dogs toilet. Leave the dog out before you go to bed, first thing in the morning, after meals and after a sleep it will soon figure it out. Good luck

Well done - looks like the pup has found a good home, I agree with everything that Deeksofdoom has already added - but can't understand why you aren't leaving her with the Lurcher yet? I regularly take pups in for training - and they always go in with my own older dogs (also good temperment), and they seem to make adjustments for pups - but when the time comes, they also Know who the Top dog is.

If I were in your position, I would watch the two dogs together, assess the situation, and leave them to adjust to each other ASAP.

Forget sleeping on the sofa, put the pup out regularly before bedtime, leave it in the crate, get up early and let it out straight away.

Hope this helps

Pete

deeksofdoom. thanks for the words, i wanted a gwp so chose a pup that looked more like 1 and i understand where your coming from, but babies and pups are alike in that they have little bladder/bowel control at young ages. And seeing as the pup is a bit under weight (3.5k) its on 4 2oz meals a day 7am 12pm 5pm and 9pm as she builds up i will reduce then do away with the 9pm feed.over the 1st few night i picked up the tone of its whimpering and could tell the difference between wanting the toilet and wanting fussing/lonely so i only let him out on crys for the toilet.I would rather have a few sleepless nights than a house that stinks of dog pizz.

sprocket.again thanks for the words, yes the pup sure has a good home now.I know that 2 bitches together can be unpredtictable so verging on the side of safety i keep them apart at night, also it would not be fair on the lurcher if it had to sleep in pup mess.I have watched the 2 together every day now and the pup knows who is boss but still needs reminders on how far to push the lurcher. the lurcher is so powerful just in play she some time hurts me with a paw in the stomach so i know she could (unintentialy) inflict serious injuries to the pup.

ps i might be doing things wrong and i do appreciate the advice already recieved, the pup is now clean most nights in her crate.when she crys for the toilet i take her outside and tell her "quick" and she pees

Babies and pups are nothing alike  .One is a human the other is a DOG.Go to bed and leave the DOG downstiars. You mention when you got the pup it was full of worms which is the norm?.No it is not.The pup should have been well fed and wormed every two weeks by the breeder so it went off to its new home as healthy as possible. The breeder sounds like a idiot.Good luck with the pup.

He means its the norm as it was an accidental breeding and the pups weren't wanted!!

Also the FACT that both babies and pups have smaller bladders is true so again he is correct. I did the same when I first got my pup. She soon learned to wait all night but at first she was too young to be expected to hold it all night long. Id rather let her out than have the house stink of dog wizz aswell. End of the day its up to you what you want to do :hmm:

Glad you've given the pup a good home OP, best of luck :hmm:

What a cracker looks lovley

As for the crate training do what work for you as you say she is still only young she will not want to go in the crate and soon learn, whith her getting her last meal later and taking on water she wont be able to hold all nite every nite. when shes gets a bit more weight on may be worth sending her to bed with a bonio as the last meal.

just make sure she gets left in the crate alone regularly.

Keep us updated with her progress and take plenty pics, he is my boy at around 10w now 10mont and mental :hmm:

UPDATE

Thanks bigthug glad its not just me thats a big softie,im only doing what I think is right,i reared my lurcher in a simmilar way and by heck is she a good dog.

Tom&Dexter,i cant get over the size of that dogs feet,he should be able to walk on water.nice big head on him.As far as i know all the pups have been homed. As for how shes getting on,what a difference, shes been wormed and is on 4 good meals per day and piling on the beef,i reckon another 5 days she should be about the size and weight she should be.she loves her crate and only crys if she wants the toilet, only had 3 accidents in the house(pee) so i must be doing something right. She now sits and pees on command and i have got her walking comfortably on the lead.she knows the meaning of the word NO.i started her bringing empty toilet roll tubes the other day, nothing serious just lie on the lurchers bed chuck a tube and let her come back with it,when shes finnished toying with it i chuck a 2nd tube for her.I have been introducing strange noises when shes eating or playing(in prep for the gun) then i took her outside just before midnight on new years eve she saw and heard the fireworks and didnt bat an eyelid.she is very much a food orientated dog so i cant see further training being any problem at all.il get some pics up just now.

SSS.

thanks sam, shes a real cracker,im enjoying watching her manerism and bonding and most of all being what she is,a pup.if this pup turns out half as good as my lurcher il be well pleased.
